Can you please make a follow up to this with a video actually using Beartooth in the field implemented with kit? Show how well it functions in real world environments, range, and all the capabilities as far as voice comms, and types of devices that can be connected? Would be great to see two or more people with kit using these out in the world... urban, woods or rural doesn't matter... just something more than sending comms and pictures to a device that's in the same room. Some of my family are really interested in purchasing a few pairs of Beartooth Radios after seeing last weeks video. Would be a awesome alternative to stay connected incase of distaster, or loss of cell comms like recently experienced. Issue is, not enough reviews on the actual performance of these devices from regular joes with different environments and kit loadouts. Please make more content so those of us on the fence can justify the price. Thanks!

Please compare and contrast the difference between a Meshtastic setup vs your setup. Many of your explanations are specific to ATAC. Thats cool. However what features are specific to beartooth, that a Meshtastic setup does anyways. Appreciate the concept of that radio/RF/mesh network aka.beartooth.. Looking forward to seeing the value your beartooth offers. Thanks

Beartooth is a professional, mission critical networking product. Beartooth gives the user network reliability with advanced routing and message acknowledgment, ability to send ATAK data, voice, pictures and easy interconnect with Starlink and tactical networks. meshtastic is a hobbyist development board, fun for the garage but wildly inappropriate for mission critical comms.

LORA is LORA. Meshtastic is an inefficient data transfer "protocol" since it is a very limited and generally insecure glorified mesh messaging queue. Is it worth over a grand to get a LORA radio to get ATAK to talk to each other? Probably not. I'm not sure who their target market is since this is out of the price range for any civilian and gov already has their own proprietary hardware to handle the this use case. Hopefully someone will soon come and develop a generic mesh networking protocol that can rival meshtastic that doesn't have the same drawbacks.

None of this crap is useful. None of it is truly secure. In the event that this technology would be useful it will also be what gets you killed and fast! Just stay off the radio all together other than listening and extend your life. You would literally need a 40 man militia and legitimate survival community for this to be worth its price. You would still need the 40 men to have wives on board and willing to essentially be a commune for survival during disaster or conflict. It just isn’t realistic for 99% of us. Cool? Absolutely! Useful for me? NO! Just mission plan ahead synchronize your stupid analog wrist watch and use a map and compass. Low tech baby. Most guys need to start thinking in World War 2 terms regarding technology level they can manage and function with high fidelity in a modern crud down scenario. Hate to break it to the zoomers but this stuff just isn’t sustainable in that scenario your precious phone is done.

Can you do a video showcasing PTT functionality paired with Comtacs or AMPS? I can't seem to find anything on MANET PTT compatibility for Beartooth, only the MPU5 and PRC163. I see that you can use Savox, Aina, and Discus bluetooth PTT's. Is it possible to have a PTT that plugs into your ATAK device USB C and an adapter?

Use a dedicated phone for this system. Do not use your personal phone if you want privacy. Smart phones are a dime a dozen, you can also pick one up from a recycling bin to use. I believe this is only used as the input interface with the Beartooth device. Place it in airplane mode and turn on BlueTooth only.

Is there any plans to lower the send and receive delay for voice? To say at max 1 sec if it’s possible? Or is this a limitation of the android device? Also I think most of the community would like to see more integration with wired PPT headsets such as Peltor. Maybe add the 6-pin to the Beartooth, have it transmit an input signal to the Plugin on the Android device and back again as an output signal. If this is at all possible!?
@TheBiggE.

Seems to be a critical feature that is missing, to not have the peltor capability. I would not spend that much to have to cobble some kind of solution for that together.

I think as we continue to evolve communications and the hacks learn how the stuff works, it will be used for malicious purposes. The fcc could easily shut it down when shtf from a "safety" point of view. Just start pairing radios with androids which have registered ID....walk over to the atf and hand them an itemized list while you're at it. Start connecting to manned servers and repeaters....just trust me

@@BeartoothRadioInc As I said in other comments, if this was usable as a standalone for atak, and encrypted comms then that would be a revolutionary design worth their price tag. Correct me if I'm wrong, because I am here for honesty, @BeartoothRadioInc , Your line of sight voice communications don't use AES256 encryption, it is only your location and message data. What is your argument for someone who can get all the same features with a $35 meshtastic device and a cheap $40 Baofeng? Your device also needs a smartphone paired to be used with ATAK. Genuine question. How do you stop your ATAK device (phone) itself from allowing signal triangulation, or compromising geolocation? It connects via Bluetooth…. How do you thoroughly secure that? When you set up any smart device, you have to set up or link an account, all that. Even if you shut every setting down, it’s still an identifiable account, on a Bluetooth connection to your network (which Bluetooth itself is easy to hack or intercept) Mainly a way to hardwire the device to avoid the Bluetooth use would be great. Do you have a viable way to secure this weak link? Signals will get you triangulated.
@ChrisHillASMR
@ChrisHillASMR Месяц назад
its low power but you honestly cant, using a phone for an atak display is dumb for so many technical reasons and would get the team shelled by a competent enemy after a couple days if someone was seriously looking for you. there needs to be a usb c connection to avoid bluetooth leaking signaling
@Vpaq
@Vpaq 15 дней назад
To avoid Google tentacles you can flash a custom Android ROM to a phone with a boot loader that’s able to be unlocked, like a Google Pixel. Graphene OS is a viable option if you just need the hardware without the phone calling back to Google servers.

No thanks, I'll just use a $50. Meshtastic with an ATAK plug in. Meshtastic also can be used over the net or on Starlink. Add a low priced 915 Mhz. spread spectrum radio and except for sending a picture, you have the same thing for about 20% of your asking price. BTW, a common RTL dongle plugged into a computer will show the chirp spread spectrum comm right on the screen. If it can be seen, it can be DF'ed. Harder to DF than a Baofeng, yes, but can be DF'ed. The 915 spread spectrum voice can also be de-coded. The voice portion of your radio is not forwarded and is not a part of the mesh network. Simply simplex, if your not in range between two radios, you are not getting the voice. It does not matter how something is encrypted, if it radiates RF, it can be DF'ed. Your nasty uncle is pretty good at finding you if they really want to. I guess if you have more money than brains and want to play SF Operator, this might be for you.

He says "google translate" & while technically true - it uses on-device voice recognition, meaning it doesn't get set to google servers. However, I have no idea if android actually uploads all VR recordings to google servers later (I bet it does). But if you don't connect the android you are using for ATAK to the internet then there is no way for your device to send those recordings so should be good. Same goes for the maps. While you can use Google Maps for ATAK all you are doing is downloading the maps from Google Maps. Again if you don't connect the device you are using for ATAK to the internet then there is nothing to worry about. You can download the maps on another device & upload them to the android device as well. If you are worried about Big Tech watching your boogaloo moments you should probably know that ATAK was/is made by the US government & you probably shouldn't be using it for those types of activities.
