i'm using reaper and no sounds are passing thru Stepic, how do i use this? i'm pretty advanced DAW user for 3 yrs now. I put it before Vital synth on a track and the midi won't pass thru to vital. i already licensed the plugin. closed it, and re-opened it. i even tried it on the input FX spot and same thing. no midi is passing thru to vital synth. it's like stepic is blocking the midi, how do i fix this issue. i emailed you now in support email pls help thanks
@@Maplefoxx-vl2ew Hi, you have a rather specific problem that could have various causes. Therefore, I recommend that you write us an email. Our support usually responds very quickly and is always happy to help. Generally, Stepic works very well with Reaper. Therefore, I am confident that we can get Stepic up and running quickly for you. You can find our contact email in the email you received from the server or on our website.
@@devicemeister yea i don't think they are understanding me. All i'm doing is putting Stepic before Vital synth on the same track, it should just work right? it's muting my track. you should set up Reaper and test this , Vital Synth is free, I use Scaler 2, another midi controlling plugin with no issues. it's not a Reaper bug. Edit: it was some option we had to turn in in Midi Play, but i didn't know this from watching here or Dash's video. He showed me this. it's really cool . time to have fun with it now. thanks.
This tutorial-series will give Stepic another boost in popularity, and that's a really good thing. A great tool, easy to get started and ultimately highly complex control options. Congrats!
I've watched this full tutorial now, start-to-end, and wow, this tool is absolutely amazing. I just wanted to comment on how great the tutorial itself is, though. I find a lot of these types of tutorials can be pretty dry or hard to follow, but this is so well done. The person doing the voice over has a good voice/tone for this, and explains all the features so well. It can be a very intimidating plugin because of how feature-filled and powerful it is, but I think it's more intuitive than most arp/seqs with advanced features. The great tutorial and very consistent, well-designed UI make this plugin the best choice for arpeggiator/sequencer/midi generator for me now, and I feel pretty confident about using this plugin now after having watched these vids. I will be buying it sometime this month, for sure.
Thanks for your great feedback! We really appreciate it! I have also passed it on to Jon Audio, who led the course. He was very pleased to hear about it. ❤️
I'm so glad there are tutorials now for Stepic. This is an amazing tool and hopefully it will gets the attention it deserves. Looking forward for the next one! Thank you so much for that!
Jonaudio is such a good teacher. Have stepic for quite a while and sadly not much used it. This explains really good on how it actually makes it so good
Thanks for the tutorial. I'm using Stepic for a while now but this tutorial is coming in handy. For example I did not know that right mouse is changing all sliders at once :) have a great day.
You're spot on! That's exactly why we made this tutorial. I'm glad you were able to glean valuable information from the first episode. Make sure to watch the second episode as well. It's already available on our channel. From here on out, we'll be diving deep into the details.
I'm happy to hear that! Have you also checked out the second episode? You can find it on our channel. Feel free to subscribe to our channel as well, because more parts are coming!🚀
Fantastic! Stepic is freaking amazing. I use it to drive my NDLR sequencer chords , patterns, key, and program changes over time, much like a track master sequencer. Also use one Stepic to drive the pattern selection of other stepic instances. And THEN we've still got all the arp fun, with transposition driven by... you guessed it, another stepic! Generative heaven.
We will. There are 5 more parts coming up that will thoroughly explain all the features of Stepic. The next part is being released tomorrow. If you don't want to miss it, make sure you've subscribed to our channel.🚀
Thanks for your feedback! There will be 5 more installments coming. All functions and areas of Stepic will be detailedly highlighted. The second part is coming tomorrow. If you don't want to miss it, make sure you've subscribed to our channel.👍
This will be a great series, and you picked the perfect guy to produce these tutorials. Jon, our brief conversation the other day about Falcon 3 with MIDI out vs Stepic now makes sense, I see what you did there LoL. Joking apart, this device is definitely on my to-get list, and I look forward to seeing the rest of the videos in this series. Great job!
Just discovered stepic while looking at other sequencers, then started searching for stepic videos. This video is the best I’ve found so far. Just subscribed. I’ll probably get this 🎹♥️
Got this the other day. While I think I can work out most of out of it, just by playing with it for a bit, I'll check this tutorial out as well. Since, as is often the case with a lot contemporary software, there's so much going on with it, there's probably a few functions that i may miss or not fully utilise. Thanks for making the effort with this. Must have taken a while to put this together.
Hey @devicemeister...pretty nice Sequencer...i really love it! But i have question...is there a plan that the parameters in Stepic become modulatable?? I use Bitwig and it would be an awesome addition to a great plugin!! Thx guys...and keep up the great work!
Thank you for your kind words; I truly appreciate it. I can tell you that I have plans in that direction. If you'd like me to keep you posted on this topic, please send me an email at the main contact address.
This is the tutorial I have been waiting for. I have the Hive 2 Synth but few presets. I really like this STP Heaven preset, from which preset package did you get this? Thanks in advance
very nice. i bought it instantly. just one little thing i miss is the „skip“ step mode like on a 960 Sequenzer. On and Off is not the same. regardless of that, very powerful
Thanks for your feedback! I have indeed thought about skip-step a while ago. However, it could be a bigger challenge to integrate it seamlessly into the existing UI. Maybe I'll build a prototype to see what kind of musical results can be achieved with it in Stepic. I've added your suggestion as +1 to the feature on the wish list.👍
It depends on your DAW or your modular setup. Stepic only generates MIDI notes and CCs. However, there are DAWs like Ableton Live or Bitwig that provide you with tools to convert MIDI to CV. Another option is to have a MIDI to CV interface module in your modular system.
Hi, thanks for your feedback! I've added your request as a +1 for this feature on the wishlist. However, I also recommend checking out Element by KushView. It has a standalone version in which you can configure a Stepic preset. This comes pretty close to a Stepic standalone version.
Thanks to S1gns Of L1fe I now own stepic, I am no Abelton user I use Logic. I know I am missing some interconnectivity but I will say from the 3h I had had with it... Just buy this guys... The price... the function.. IN-CRED-IBLE!
Great tutorial!! Not sure if anyone can help here but I'm using Stepic for Live and whenever I opened Stepic I cannot press stop or play in Ableton. Another thing which is breaking my workflow as well is that the Stepic Device is closing whenever I click somewhere in the ableton session - I would like the possibility to keep it floating like my other plugins. Any tips how to fix those issues or is there any setting that I didn't find? Thanks!
Re. Transport: If you click inside the Stepic plugin window, you can use the spacebar to toggle the transport just like in other plugin windows. Re. Floating Window: The issue with the Stepic window disappearing behind the Live window when you're working in Live is a limitation of Max for Live, which can't keep hosted plugin windows on top. Stepic's plugin window is a VST3 and differs from other Max for Live devices in this respect. If you are on Windows OS, you can use an Always-On-Top app as a workaround. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to write an email to our support. We are here to help.
Excellent tutorial, great plugin. A few questions though: in the beginning of the tutorial (around 2:08) Stepic is playing a melody. But all the note-sliders are at the bottom!? Also an awesome base line melody is underneath the sequence. Where does it come from? Last point: the Hive 2 synth displays a preset called STP Heaven. I searched for it in the synth, but it has no preset with that name. Can anybody clarify these points please? 😊
Hi, regarding your questions: 1. Jon has activated the transpose mode in the MIDI-Play settings and did send MIDI note to Stepic to tranpose the sequences. Please watch the 5th episode of the Ultimate Stepic Tutorial to learn more about this feature. 2. The bassline was created by Jon using another Synthesizer and without Stepic. It's not available for download. But you can easily recreate it on your end with almost any soft synth. 3. The Hive 2 preset 'STP Heaven' is available for download in the video description.
thanks for this! do I understand correctly that you need to draw in a midi note in your daw to 'guide' this plugin? or does the sequencer start ouputting midi notes as soon as you press play in the daw?
In Stepic, both are possible. You can set the transport to sync with the DAW transport or trigger it via incoming MIDI Notes. Feel free to check out part two of the course on our channel for this. In the video chapter "Transport Mode," we address that.
Is there a video showing how to set this up in one's DAW? I want to make sure it's useable before buying it. It would be great if there could be a demo version.
Hi, thanks for your interest in Stepic! Feel free to send us an email. We'll provide you with all the information and will surely find a way for you to check out Stepic. You can find the contact details on our website.
Hi, the feature is on the wishlist and considered for implementation in the future. Unfortunately, I can't give you an excat time line of when it will be available.
Is it possible to have stepic run at half speed or multiples of the speed of your DAW's Tempo? I was hoping that Divider controlled this, but does not appear to work that way. Thank you!
Hi, you can adjust the tempo of the note sequencer via Note Length. This is essentially Stepic's master clock. Additionally, you can give each of the modulation sequencers their own tempo. The individual sequencer sections (Pitch, Octave, Velocity, etc.) all run at master clock tempo (Note Length).
@@devicemeister thanks! Since stepic does chords it would be cool to play it at a slower division of the tempo to easily make a long phrase without chaining multiple patterns. Especially because you can make any number of steps you want, it would be really interesting for pads/ambient to have polymetric long chords. Thanks so much for answering me you guys are helpful!
Hi, the bassline and the delay are elements that are not generated by Stepic itself. The bassline is part of a backing track that was not created with Stepic. The delay effect was applied to the track in the DAW. If I have misunderstood your question, feel free to post a timestamp from the spot in the video. Stepic is a sequencer. This means that it doesn't generate sounds by itself, but rather sequences notes that you can then send to a synthesizer or sampler.
@@AISupercharge Hi, please take a look at the second part (Top Bar) of this course, which you can also find on our RU-vid channel. In it, you'll find a chapter on "Routing" relatively early on, where routing in FL Studio is briefly demonstrated. I can also send you a detailed PDF guide. Just send us a short email to our main contact address. You can find it on our homepage.
@@devicemeister Thank you very much anyway! I had already found out how to do it thanks to the subsequent comment where you said to look at the second part of the tutorial. I have a question: I recorded some patterns created by Stepic with Edison, but when I go to insert them into the playlist, the volume of the patterns themselves seems very low compared to the others patterns (pads, leads..) in the playlist. In the mixer, I have all the volumes at maximum, do you know what could be causing this? And how can I remedy it? thanks!
How on earth did you get Hive to run through Stepic? Using FL too and couldn't get it to work yet, is it under the midi settings somewhere? thanks in advance
Hive functions in terms of routing in FL Studio just like any other soft synth. Send me an email at the main contact address, and I'll guide you through the process.
In FL Studio, you connect using the MIDI ports. Set the Out-Port on Stepic and the In-Port on your synth to the same number in the plugin settings. This allows the synth to receive MIDI from Stepic. You can also check out the routing chapter in the second part of our tutorial where we demonstrate this. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UeoI-78YJ9I.htmlsi=BY4RCL_fgLnD8WzP&t=197
@@devicemeister okay. I tried that several times with no success. I shall watch the video linked tomorrow and see if it shows ,e something I’m doing wrong. Thanks
@@darrenelkins5923 Check your mail inbox as well; I've sent you a PDF that guides you step by step. If it still doesn't work out, let me know. I'm confident we can figure it out together.
You are skipping the DAW settings first. You should start there. In this intro how is "midi play" configured? You should first explain how Stepic is configured in this video. I was hoping to see a basic level Thank you
Thank you for your feedback! In the second episode there will be a short section that touches on DAW routing. However, this will be limited to routing in FL Studio, as that's the DAW Jon uses. There are so many DAWs out there and the routing is different in each one. Covering all of that in a video course about Stepic wasn't feasible for us. But I've taken note of your feedback, and perhaps in the future, we'll release a small mini-series on DAW setup. If you need assistance with routing, feel free to send us an email. We're happy to help. Additionally, you'll find a chapter in the Quick Start Guide that describes the routing for the most prominent DAWs.
@@nwobserver8008 Hi, currently, this video series is not planned. However, this could change in the future. If you need guidance, feel free to send us an email or visit our Discord server. We're always happy to help. You can find the contact information on our homepage.
It's fascinating how many devices/plugins in 2023 are for people struggling with creativity so much that they just want to click 'randomize' until they find something they like. Clicking boxes on a plugin with a spartan UI is a painful way to get there compared to actually playing around with a DFAM or Edge or SQ-1 or just playing around on a keyboard. You could even get crazy and try the 'mutate' knob on your LaunchKey! Or maybe even that plugin that makes the creepy plant wiggle when it generates sounds. Dios mio, man.
Some people maybe just want a backing track for a vocal and are not interested in producing. Some people might have beat block and are looking for inspiration. Others might find themselves locked into the same pattern and need help breaking free. Or some people might not be trained in music, so they need a little help. I see someone like you in every one of these kinds of videos. If you want to help people be creative, why not offer some kind support instead of chiding them? Who gets inspired to be creative after being talked down to?
Hi, we intentionally decided to focus only on Stepic's functions in the tutorial. Covering the setup for the variety of different DAWs would have made the tutorial too extensive. If you need help setting up Stepic in your DAW, feel free to send us an email. I'm sure, together we get Stepic up and running on your end. You can find our contact details on the homepage. If you're still not satisfied with Stepic, you can, of course, get your money back.
It was a tough decision. In the end, we decided against it because there are too many different DAWs. In each DAW, the routing is slightly different. The video would have been too long. But we welcome your feedback. We can definitely see us releasing dedicated setup videos for the various DAWs in the future. 👍Btw., check your inbox. I've sent you information on how to route Stepic in Studio One.
