Ultimate Test for a PS1 F1 Game | Monaco Grand Prix: Racing Simulation 2

After feeling like I'd uncovered a hidden gem in Racing Simulation: Monaco Grand Prix, I wanted to dig a little deeper.
Firstly, how good is Monaco on this game? It's technically the only officially licensed circuit in the game, so I have high hopes.
Secondly, how good is the game when wet weather is turned on? For me, one of the very few weaknesses of the Bizarre Creations F1 games (Formula 1 and Formula 1 97) is how the AI behave in wet weather.

Ted Wine is the most appropriate name Sir Edmund of Irvine could have received. I love it. This game in the wet kinda looked like the original Formula 1, less grip so less fast. This game doesn't seem to handle sliding very well, similar to the EA Sports PS1 F1 games so I guess that explains why no slipping and sliding at some points. Also, good idea to test the this in the worst possible track for F1 games, be it arcade or sim. Monaco, and most importantly Monaco AI, is usually broken in someway. I guess you could call their aggressiveness their "Brokeness". At the very least it was fun to watch that Sauber divebomb you from halfway across the galaxy. My respects to anyone that has survived 100% races in this. I would also lose wheels by lap ... 3. You say you will only do round 1, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep that save as an alternative championship series just for fun.

It just fits him so, so perfectly. I have experienced spinning the car off the kerbs in a race since and it feels very realistic - as you'd expect if you put the power down too early - but it's inconsistently implemented and doesn't feel the same logically as it should in the wet. That being said, I still enjoyed the experience. The handling just needs to make sense within the game world and be engaging, and I'll go with it, even if it's not the most realistic. Honestly I don't know if I'm mad or impressed at that move. Just speechless. But yeah, they're a bit ropey around the fabled streets. 100% challenge anyone? 😂 The next video probably won't be the start of the championship I do on this game, but I will be definitely doing a championship on it!

Grand Prix Legends, Monaco Grand Prix Simulation 2, F1 Racing Simulation and Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix 4. Smaller cars of that era gave for MUCH more fun racing. Don't touch any recent releases anymore as these games had it all in terms of gameplay. A rain race on F1 Racing Simulation was and still is a lot of fun and really challenging. It nailed the sensitivity of the pedal controls needed for traction to get round and keep up pace with the opponent cars.

Some of the first Codies F1 games were good (F1 2010-2013) but they've lost me now I think. The handling just feels too "floaty" to me on a wheel and pedals - I will accept that may be more of a "me" problem than the games. But this era of games with this era of cars remains amazingly good fun. As mentioned in my other comment, would love to give F1 RS a try to see what it's like.

Ooof, that Sauber was going to either go through or go through your car in the first race, had that happen on PC as well only in that case it was someone coming out of the pits and putting me in the wall because I, on 20+ laps worth of worn rubber, was not sprinting off up towards Massanet. Instead I got punted into the wall. Got my revenge, the car spun around and took off the wheel of that Ferrari. Even on the PC version, Ted Wine was causing problems

Ouch! Well I suppose it's nice to know the AI are just ruthless at Monaco in this game no matter what version. Regardless of format, Ted Wine is inevitable.

I think you're absolutely right, and I am going to do a season on this game because it's very fun... but I am committed to playing and beating F1 98. I really hope I can do it first time so I don't have to do multiple playthroughs 😬

MGP on the ps1 looked more like a botch job in terms if the cockpit view. It looked so out of proportion that its looks like the whacked the cpit image on the closest look down cam they had therefore giving the look that is staring down at the ground. The view is better proportioned in the n64 and pc versions. I feel that it was a rush job with the ps1 which was a shame

I must admit at first I didn't notice the issues and I still prefer it to the nose cam view on this game, which probably is more realistically positioned, but I had a comment on my last video pointing out how high the cockpit is and I can't un-see that now - you basically are driving around on stilts. I still like using it, but it is completely out of position and proportion. Yeah my bad, I play all these using a fat PS3 and "full screen" on, which on most games looks fine, but for some the stretching is more noticeable. The worst was Le Mans 24 Hours (PS2). Everything was a bit too pancaked. 😅
