Let's mod my 3rd gen Toyota Tacoma! I think a winch bumper is the best place to start. Having a place to mount a winch and add more ground clearance is a win win for anyone who goes off-road. Today we are modifying a bumper from Backwoods Adventure Mods to fit my taste and give this truck an original look. An off-road bumper is a great addition any Toyota Tacoma build. Overlanders, rock crawlers and weekend warriors could all benefit from a custom bumper and I hope this video inspires you to do some of the work yourself! You got this!

From an older guy who's seen and done a lot of fabrication work, that's top notch work you've done there sir. Kudos. There's a bit of a knack to make things that "look right" and yours does. One suggestion if I may. Take care of your knees before they begin to give you grief. I've always got some sort of knee pads on now while working on jobs that mean lots of being on concrete. My knees wish I'd started doing that in my 20's instead of my 50's. Anyways a tip of the hat for the work and stay well.

Much appreciated! My knees are very important to me. My work boots have souls designed for concrete and every pair of work pants I own have built in knee pads. I was a commercial plumber for 15 years before I was a full time RU-vidr an I learned the importance of knee pads in my early 20s. I've had pants with built-in knee pads ever since. 👍 Thank you for watching!

it may sound strange, but its actually pretty refreshing to see you do something along the lines of the everyday man. While I have the tools to do anything you do, I usually dont have the time. So this is usually the way I compromise to get my projects done. Buy what I can and modify or make what I need. Excited for the rest of this series!

Do custom long travel! most of the off the shelf LT kits dont address the major problem of the front tires being too far back. Custom front subframe and moving the hubs forward with a redesigned lower arm will help run 35's without cutting or moving the body mounts. Plus it gives a better approach angle. Tons of extra work but its definitely worth it, and I think you have the skills to get it done.

(10:40) literally the reason I prefer your channel over the others. You tend to revisit your grass roots days. It's not only very humble of you, it encourages the entry level dudes to dive in an just do it. It can be discouraging to watch other channels flash sponsored products. I've been watching RU-vid since 2005. You are the only channel I've ever been subscribed to. I've never welded or fabricated anything in my life but watching your videos really inspires me to give it a shot. I'm glad you've ventured into Tacoma's. I've gone through a lot the trials you went through here on my 09. One good un-seen strength mod though is to upgrade to frame face the bumper bolts to. The M12 studs aren't great for pulling against. Of course those brackets help too. And now I'm motivated to finish the aluminum bumper on the wife's 4Runner...
