Here’s the thing. An old fashioned is made of whiskey and whiskey comes from barrels and barrels are wood, so it’s basically woodworking

Yes do more I loved it! Took me back to June 28, 2014 when I was visiting my son in NYC. He was running sound for a little venue in Brooklyn called Pete’s Candy Store. I had never heard of an Old Fashioned. My son said it was the drink to get. I watched as the bartender added Maker’s Mark, orange bitters, sugar, an orange peal, ice, and then stirred the drink for what seamed like 5 mins. I guess that was equivalent to a splash of water! I have since experimented a little myself and I do like the rye whiskey. I will be checking out the small batch bitters and smoky scotch. Thanks for bringing back some good memories.

You never think of bourbon in Michigan, u think of the Bourbon Trail. He also bought me some Traverse City (MI again) Distillery Cherry’s. FYI- Traverse City is famous for their cherry’s! A simplistic mixture..... Stay with me.... Glass full of ice, three fingers Iron Fish and 4 cherries, mix and sip to ur content!

Hi there. I loved this video on the Old Fashions. I was on a Norwegian cruise out of New York a few years ago, and the bartender (really a "mixologist") turned me on to a few other great Old Fashions. One was made with Rum , but the best one was a Bourbon "smoked" drink, actually smoked under a glass dome with Maple wood. All I see you missing, which I find to really bring out the orange flavor & scent is lighting the oils when you squeeze the orange peel. BTW, also love the shop videos!

I’ve always been mechanical and have wrenched on countless cars and motorcycles but just recently started doing some wood working and your video are super helpful and definitely entertaining. Lived in the valley for about 10 years then moved to north Idaho. The old fashion is my go to when I’m not feeling like a beer and I like the mix up with the scotch. As someone with a channel as well, I know how much work these videos can be. Thanks for putting them out there.

I love this and all your videos. I've drank so much, I mean LEARNED so much! I'm just starting in my woodworking journey but am experienced in my whisk(e)y journey. I collect bourbon, rye, Scotch, American Whiskey, etc. That first one shouldn't be called a "classic" but the Lazy American - LOL. In my Old Fashioned I typically muddle demerara sugar cubes in Angostura bitters and a splash of rye. I agree, don't muddle all the sugar down! I have a clear ice cube maker which makes big 2" clear cubes. Pour mix over cube. Pinch the orange peel and flash burn a citrus squeeze with a match or kitchen torch. No cherries. Everyone has their own preferences and that's what makes it so much fun. Also, I LOVE Laphroaig and must absolutely try your third version. Keep the wood working videos coming and keep the whisk(e)y videos coming!!!

Agree completely. The fact that the fruit and bitters weren't muddled with it is also cause for concern. However, the redeeming qualities of the smoky version covers a lot of sins. I'm thinking I might try something similar with some Ardbeg that has been sitting around doing nothing.

Now, I've been using good sipping grade bourbon but falling short on the cherry and ice even though I have the same molds that you're using here. I was already using orange rind, too. The difference going to the muddled sugar with rye, a touch of water and the much better cherry is amazing. Testing and typing at the same time. Cheers!
