If you play 3. f3 - avoiding the main line - you may catch some Pirc players off guard, but the downside is they haven't committed their dark-squared Bishop to the fianchetto, so they could shift toward center play with 3...e5 4. d5 Be7. If you keep the main line 3. Nc3 g6, then they've committed g7 for their Bishop. THEN 4. f3 followed by Be3/Qd2/O-O-O is called the "150 Attack." Pirc players may be a bit more prepared for it, but you waited for them to commit to the fianchetto.

That was extremely helpful Maestro. Thank you. Im trying to resurrect my game and am rusty and at a tremendous disadvantage in that Im not as versed as many regarding technology. However I got to 2100 with very little tutoring and looking forward to studying the basic laws of chess that failed to learn as a youngster when I chose music over "chess" as a way of life, keeping chess as a hobby....What can I say?!...Ever the practical Lad LOL I am ever so grateful for this RU-vid channel, as it wasnt even around when I was playing chess seriously. Thats how "old" I am....But I intend to get my "Experts" title as I believe thats a reasonable goal, having defeated enough Experts and IMs to justify such an ambitious design. What I need is a "Teacher"....Thanks again Cheers. PS. Stay just as you are, the world, especially the "Chess" world has enough prima donnas in it and as a result you Sir stand out rather nicely

Its playable but too easy to counter and if black knows how to defend, which isn't hard to learn in this line, and white gave up his advantage for nothing. Maybe this is good for quick games. Would not recommend for OTB classical.

I play the Pirc (pronounced like pierce but with tz) and I think you've missed something important, which is 3. f3 Nbd7 and later not Bg7 but Be7. The main setup allows white to initially claim a big center but then plays to undermine it with moves like c6 and a6/b5.
@mathematicsreadinggroup7288
Also, what do you mean "I don't like to think in the opening?" I'm playing this BECAUSE I want to think in the opening, to get my opponents out of their mainline Sicillian prep and whatnot.
@maxkho00
@maxkho00 Год назад
I don't get your objection. In the position that you're describing, it's just a game of chess ─ White isn't lost, nor is the position particularly difficult to navigate. I don't see how that qualifies as a "miss". Also, Nelson literally admitted this plan is only effective if Black castles, which he also explained that most people statistically do. Have you not watched the video? And finally, the target audience is mostly beginners and intermediates. I'm pretty sure this demographic won't be too heavy on their theory.
@maxkho00
@maxkho00 Год назад
@@mathematicsreadinggroup7288 He means that the Pirc is a system opening, and system openings are so-called because in them, you get the same set-up almost every game. And because you get the same set-up every game, your opening moves don't require much thought.
@mathematicsreadinggroup7288
I'm saying that this is an entirely different position that arises after 3.f3, and so Nelson's advice for how to play this line should include this move, as I believe it is the best.
@crystallized1676
@crystallized1676 Год назад
@@mathematicsreadinggroup7288 What's the point though? Pirc is slightly dubious opening no matter how you look at it. Sure black can play in a way you have described but they still get worse position :D There is no point in doing extensive analyses of every possibility on black side if the outcome is the same.

The problem here is that, at 3:31, most well prepared Pirc players are not going to fianchetto the bishop, and are instead going to begin an immediate queenside pawn storm, preparing for White to castle long.
@andrewucla
@andrewucla Год назад
Actually, even one move earlier, it’s arguably not great for Black to push g6. Normally, g6 will have been played already because the similar 150 Attack includes an early Nf3 before f3, giving Black time for g6. Here, with 3. f3, fianchettoing the bishop kinda doesn’t make sense. Black is better off - will have an easier game - playing e6, Be7, and 0-0.
@andrewucla
@andrewucla Год назад
Ah. Just checked the computer. Apparently, at 4:14, Black is more than fine if they take the bishop. Practically, yes it’s a scary attack. The psychology of the position favors White, especially in a rapid/blitz game. But Black can turn the tables with a queenside attack.
@Salopeboy
@Salopeboy 8 месяцев назад
Thanks Nelson.. The Lion's Jaw reminds me of the Saemisch King's Indian, but white hasnt committed c4.. This could be a better variation, since black can't attack the pawn with b5
