Well depending on what parts you get it’s going to last more than a couple years. Plus once you have it built you can upgrade whenever you need to. Realistically it’s no different than buying a new console like every 6 years. Except you can upgrade at your own pace instead of being forced to buy a completely new machine and buy decent parts second hand if you want.
