Hi guys,
Welcome back to another video! Something a little different this week as I delve into the world of BFS/ultra light baitcasters. I have already filmed a number of sessions with this combo since filming this and can't wait to share that footage with you in the coming weeks.

Shimano Calcutta Conquest BFS 23
Shimano Cardiff Native Special

Thanks mate! I can’t rate my 100dc highly enough. It definitely doesn’t cast the super light stuff like the BFS but for a small Barra/jack/bass/cod reel it’s unreal

Second this. Looking at either the 100dc or the bfs for a bass baitcaster - which is more versatile? That hecate looks legit too. I need some of that.

@@Benjo85 both are great man! It really depends what you plan on throwing. Shimano should be dropping stock of the conquest SE this month which is a size inbetween that I think will be the perfect bass reel!

I have this reel paired with the dobyns sierra 700c. Its a great combo. This is my first round reel and it instanlty became my favorite, even over the aldebaran bfs. Casts light lures like a dream.

The whole conquest range is unreal! What is the line rating on the 700?? We don’t get them in Australia

I agree! I like it much better than my 22' Aldebaran. It's smoother, cast are more predictable. I use mine on the Dobyns 650 and it's a dream combo. I have the Dobyns 690 but I use that for my heavier BFS with my 17' Scorpion or my 16' Aldebaran BFS.

Thanks mate. I bought the reel from Digitaka in Japan and the rod I found on a Facebook page. You can order them from a few sites in Japan though too

I still waiting for Conquest Shallow Edition (30 SE) Just want a comparison between the two. Shimano said SE is more all rounder & BFS is for feather light lure. Then I will decide which one to buy. Quite pricey so I have to be patience

Expensive sure, quality gear 1000%!!! It’s an awesome alternative than spin gear, one day I’ll join the club! Just might need to hide it from the better half 😂

Tell them nothing mate 😂😂 my biggest fear in life is that when I die my partner will sell my fishing gear for what I told her I paid for it haha!! I’ve given the combo a good test out now and can highlight recommend it as a super fun way to fish 👍🏼

My new favorite BFS reel by far; even over my 22' Aldebaran. I use my Calcutta XG on the Dobyns Sierra 650 and it is soooo smooth, casts like a dream with great control and because of the way it's constructed, it doesn't feel heavy at all. Already caught over 50 Trout on it up to 3LBs.

@@fishinjosh 1/16oz-3/16 is the sweet spot for the 650. I can throw 1/4 but I don't want to stress out the rod. The tip is very thin compared to the 690 or 700 series even though the line ratings are the same. I've been using 6LB. Varivas nylon but it's very thin for a 6LB. line (0.185mm). It's actually smaller diameter than Trilene XL 4LB. which is 0.20mm.

It is 2 piece mate. I got lucky and managed to find it on Facebook. I believe digitaka and Japan tackle stock them though

@@IMGhostRogue apart from the quick session in this video all I’ve done is kayak fish with it! So handy for tight casts out of the yak and so much fun to fight fish on. My next video will be a session of using it for bigger bass

Shimano instruction has written "BFS should be only used with Flolo lines." I put PE on my BFS and realized after tho.

@@fishinjosh well the spool comes with guide holes to make it easy spooling with line. By doing this the knot is hidden and the line is even. Using tape is absolutely unnecessary. Bfs spools don t require more then 50m line (even the manufacturer tell you that). Adding more line is increasing the spool weight, casting with low weight lures being difficult (high inertia caused by added mass).
