You can also disable limit on ranges and use it like "normal" 1271 with degraded specs. 4950 uses better resistors than 1281 in ohm assemblies.

Those tin whiskers are concerning, I wonder if disturbing them could be the cause of the failure. They can blow around quite easily and can really travel. Best to dampen a small artist's brush with de-ionized water and use that to remove them. They will cling to a damp brush which you can wipe often with a damp cloth to prevent redistributing them.
@cambridgemart2075

Unless this is is fairly modern, i.e RoHS compliant, I'm surprised to see tin whiskers.

So Marco if I ever get around to writing my movie script about disappearing PPM's would you want to be the evil villain, hording the ppm's? or the hyper intelligent good guy german who is measuring the missing ppm's to track down the villain? the twist is both are the same person, but one measures ppms... and one "loses"/ "adjusts" the calibration data and steals them for his ppm vault.

Oh no, perfect reverse engineering has turned into less perfect reverse service - from a little functional to non-functional 😥 I'm always horrified by this, when I put completely new ones among evenly aged parts, the circuit starts to work differently. You can handle it and recalibrate, I fully trust you 👍 such a super machine must work. Nice day 🙂 Tom

If it ain't broke, fix it till it is!
@Edisson.
@Edisson. Год назад
@@laserdan Although they say "It works, don't touch it" but that is not the case in this case, parts that would cause major damage if they fail have to be replaced after a while. When working on such large old PCBs, I am always concerned about their bending, when thin paths may crack, or when vacuuming, I am concerned about damage to the through-holes on multi-layer boards - it becomes brittle with age.

I'd be very interested to spend some time on the MXO4, to see how many of my suggestions made their way into that machine...from the nice screen shot at 24:34, it looks like several (many?) of my inputs finally made their way to your bench!!

On the Zeners it is to space the hot component off the board. The test point would not be usable if it was pulled tight to the board by the cut and clench machine.

I have no knowledge regarding tin whiskers, other than knowing that they can occur... So, this suggestion might not be a good solution... But, let's give it some consideration... How about applying tinning solution to the accessible portions of the effected component? Might that bond to the metallic surface and serve as a sealant, without trapping heat?

Calibration rooms, basically. Where multimeters and other measurement equipments are calibrated. It makes checking and setting up the test bench easier, as references are directly displayed in Ohms, Volts, Amps, rather than reading and doing calculations on resistor boxes, battery or whatever standard references are used. This also can be automated by connecting the multimeter to a computer.
