Very clean playing and explanations about this Swede, thanks James - I will watch the other videos for comparisons to the Ultra Max . I am looking at used Ultras right now. I am already the proud owner of an original Super Swede made in their last production year in Sweden, a black 1983 model - It has the splitter switch and for even more amazing sustain, it has a zero fret which is pretty rare. I first heard one in the mid 1970's while taking a Music Industry Arts course. The owner Tony C. had a 12 string Hagstrom that I played rhythm guitar parts on and the Super Swede that he played leads with. I have owned the Super since 1988 and the neck has never needed to be set-up for intonation nor have I had to adjust the H style truss rod in over 3 decades! I used the Super Swede for all tracks of my 3 original albums and it records beautifully clean and dirty. Lifelong fan of Hagstroms, so glad they are still being made as high quality, medium priced innovative gems. Elvis played a Viking - good enough for me!
Great video! I was looking for a new guitar and mainly at Epiphone Les Paul Standard 2020 and the SG series. But now after hearing this guitar I am not sure if I want an Epiphone. JUdging by the sounds, this can handle metal on 100%. I am looking for a versatile guitar - from blues and hard rock to doom, stoner, psychedelic and black metal. How is the action, is it easy to play? I am not a beginner, but an intermediate player.
Thank you, personally I preferred the Ultra Max as it has the longer scale length, I have a video comparing the two guitars if you’re deciding between them both 🎸
Nice video. I don't know this brand. I was looking for a used Jackson Monarkh X series or maybe LTD but I start to get more interest on this model. Seems more versatile with better finish. Good features for the price. I'm wondering if it can plays well various kind of extreme metal too, with aggressive sound.
Love the sunburst style ...of your hair :D The guitar sounds a bit muddy / bassy. Would you agree? I've recognized that on several videos. You say strings are easy to bend. So I guess you wouldn't tune it too low, right?
It’s a while since I played this specific guitar but I have played most of the Hagstrom line up and haven’t noticed neck dive, the 15” radius is flat but not uncomfortable. I generally prefer 7.25 but it doesn’t feel like a huge adjust as the neck profile still feels more classic than some of the more modern flat profile designs
Thanks for a great review! I am looking into buying a new guitar. Started playing about 2 years ago and I have a Strat. Want something better suited for higher gain stuff hardrock and metal. Looking at Epiphone SG, Epiphone Les Paul Modern and the Hagström Ultra Swede and Max. Don’t know if you have played the epiphone but would love to hear your opinion. Thanks !! Keep up the good work !
Hey Nicky, I haven't actually played the Epiphones but I have done a comparison video between the Ultra Swede and Max which I think might help. The idea behind the video is to help explain each instrument and help people decide which would most suit their playing style and musical tastes. If you're used to a strat my guess would be the Ultra Max would feel more at home as the scale length is the same between the two.
Any guitar could be a beginner's guitar. Never understood that distinction. The more you pay the easier to play, and this one isn't expensive at all. I have it and is mighty easy to play if that's your concern. Better to start out with a good guitar than a bad one
Hi, I played one recently and I would have been very comfortable as a beginner on this guitar because of the feeling of space on the fret board. The neck seemed wide and flat leaving lots of space for finding those chords. Hope this makes sense.
Hi Ian, it was a while ago although I think this would make for a pretty versatile beginner guitar. It's certainly capable of a wide variety of tones and the shorter scale length might also help for newer players as bends may feel easier depending on the string gauge. Any more questions let me know 🎸
What you've done here is play it and describe a few of its features, and there's a number you've missed entirely. You haven't provided any feedback on the playing experience at all. Do you love it or hate it? We've no idea.
Hi Peter, the follow up video to this one will be explaining what I like about each and which playing scenarios I would use this guitar. As with all the demos I do I would strongly encourage trying out an instrument before purchasing one as everyone enjoys a different features/spec set. The aim with this video was to demonstrate a number of tones available with the guitar so that a viewer can decide if that tonal pallet is something they would enjoy from an instrument.
@@GreenDistantStar I've actually just finished editing the comparison between the ultra max and ultra swede, I'll have it up in the next couple of days, they're both great guitars for the price though
