Thanks Peter. I have this lens and have dropped the lens cap so many times. Good to know that infinity focusing issue isn't just my lens, I will try between 11-20mm @ f4 next time. I want to try it with Astro photography when the night sky is right.

I got an E-PL8 just to use the Laowa 4mm lens because on my E-M1X (and previously on my original E-M1), you can see the grips in the picture. I put the camera body on a rail when I use this so I can hold it away from me

Thanks for the info! I use an E-M5 III. It seems that you used this body at some point. Did you find that the grip is at all visible when using the E-M5? I've been searching everywhere and I can't find the answer.

Without the extra grip there is now problem. Your hand will be visible so a small tripod is good.

I have the 7.5 mm, but it requires very careful composition.

I have the Laowa 4 mm; unfortunately, it crops the top and bottom slightly. There is a Meike 3.5 mm too.

Funny, I also painted out the name of my camera with eding

Interesting lens, though I would think that the Olympus 8mm F1.8 PRO fisheye is probably more useful/versatile as a fun/niche lens, but it is of course much more expensive.

Oly 8 mm F1.8 PRO must be a stunning lens. I would like to get one, but I somehow cannot justify its price 🤷‍♂ It's not a circular fisheye, though. If you don't mind manual focus, another glass from 7artisans - 7,5 mm F2.8 - may give you a bit more similar perspective to Oly. For occassional use both 7A 4mm and 7A 7,5 mm are pretty decent and totally fun to shoot with.

@@vaclavpotucek9060 I got my Oly 8mm fisheye 2nd hand on eBay, which made it sort of affordable ($600). Nice feature is that you can do in-camera (or in post) 'de-fishing' to make it a rectilinear lens.

It becomes 8mm in teleconverter mode x2

Curious, Why did you black out the lettering on your OM-5?
@ForsgardPeter

It won't be as visible when photographing. It also won't reflect form windows etc.

Gold Fish eye anyone? Lol thanks for sharing Peter , but I think I will pass on this lens.

The first and only time in history being too short is the downfall of a lens design. In this case the Laowa circular fisheye is nearly useless on EM-1 series OM-1 and senior Lumix G bodies, those with slightly more substantial hand grip. Part of the grip will be in permanent view. Meike has a very similar product and the single biggest virtue of it in comparison is a longer barrel. Still you cannot put your fingers around the hand grip without photobombing your own shot.

That is the downside of this lens and other similar lenses.

If only it was with AF I would get it. Especially for astro and northern lights.! But sadly that company can't make lenses with AF 😕 and I hate blurry astro photos 😕

Using magnify makes it easier to focus. Starry AF is even better.

I think it's the kind of lens where you have to tread fin line between making legitimate use of it, and using it because it's gimmicky. I have a Bower 7.5mm fisheye lens, I have used it for portraits and it's good, if you think about what you are doing. but I'd never shoot a wedding with it.

It is a lens for a niche use.
