Thank you so much for this video. Im about to pour a skull. Do you use warm or cold water? I have experience with other plaster, and this looks like the same process. Thank you for sharing.
I made a hockey mask buck from ultracal 30 using this video as a guide. It came out very well. Do I need to drill holes all the way through it in order to use it in vacuum forming?
I've mixed ultrcal before, no issues. Recently I tried it, blew it, wasted a ton of the stuff. Tried again, did the dry lake bed, STILL cured all easily scrapeable. UGH. I'm not going to try again, which is why I'm watching this video. Seems like I have too much water and not enough ultrcal. I get the dry lake bed but when I mix it it just stays watery for a long time, then when it finally starts to cure it dries but dries in a way that you can scrape away at it with your finger.
Never had that issue but have had a friend that did.. may have been a bad batch or ultra cal... it can happen or someone another chemical may have entered it batch and can cause a cure to not happen properly.... I would try again with another, newer batch
Mr. Jimmy, how does a person know exactly how much they need? Do you measure by filling up your mold with water and then apply the ratios for that amount?
Sorry for late reply but u can do that for volume but I tend to just do it by eye... but with ultracal if u don't have enough u can make another batch right after and add and both with cure together
The directions that came with my Ultracal 30 say ( 38 parts water to 100 parts Ultracal 30) by weight. Setting time is an average of 25-30 min. when mixed manually. It says not to mix with your hands. Paint mixer, jiffy mixer or paddle is the most commonly used. I haven't used any yet. I'm sure there are other ways but this gives you an idea of increments to work with. I really like how Mr. Jimmy does his.
