Plastic containers do reduce the sonic waves effect use a glass container for better results I use distilled water vinegar and a couple of drops of dawn dish soap

Also when removing parts between sessions, pour the solution through a coffee filter before pouring it back in the cleaner so the debris doesnt go in the next carb.

That's a great tip, thanks for sharing!

Tip: instead of putting all the dirty things directly in the bath (and ruining it for more delicate cleaning), put them in separate plastic jars with screw lids. You save detergent and can have different detergents in different cans. Gasoline washes carburetors best.

Great idea, which I do sometimes do, and it is a much better way for larger ultrasonic cleaners.
@andersadler

@@SPANNERRASHYou can also use plastic bags with a zipper. May be even easier. And the bath is just tap water.

I just got a 6L today, too small I sent for the 15L, no you will not use more cleaner in a bigger machine. Never I mean never put the cleaner into the tank, put tap water in the tank and put your parts in a small glass or plastic container or a plastic bag, sealed with the cleaner. You use very little cleaner and don't have to clean your tank, it's a win win deal. Update, unless of coarse the item is the size of the machine then you would have to use the tank.
@SPANNERRASH

Great tip Chad, thanks for sharing, that should save a lot of wasted cleaner!

People say you can put the parts in a freezer ziplock baggie with the cleaning solution and put that in the cleaner, then around the baggie put water. The ultrasonic vibrations go through the water to the baggie of cleaner, and the baggie should use far less cleaner.
@SPANNERRASH
@SPANNERRASH Год назад
I have done this too, with small items. It is especially useful if you have a larger cleaner, saves a lot of fluid.

You know cellulose thinners removes carb varnish, but it will attack any rubber, so remove and plastics or rubbers before you use it.
@SPANNERRASH
@SPANNERRASH 2 года назад
I use thinners to remove pretty much everything :) the Ultrasonic lets you leave some part part assembled, so now worries about seals etc.

I hear what you say, but the ultrasonic cleans parts that you can't reach. To get a really nice finish on these kind of carbs, vapour blasting or soda blasting is great, but you can't clean all of the little holes inside them.

@SPANNER RASH - I was looking at buying one of these today and thankfully stumbled across your great vid. A question, in your opinion, do you think ultrasonic cleaning could help removing a stuck jet or screw?
@SPANNERRASH
@SPANNERRASH 2 года назад
Hi Tristan, ultrasonic cleaning wouldn't do any harm, but if it's stuck then it's likely a sign of corrosion, and an ultrasonic will only ever remove dirt, not rust or corrosion. Maybe an ultrasonic clean might clean it and mean you get some penetrating oils deeper into where it needs to be to help remove it. Hope that helps!

Hi Mick, you can ultrasonic clean with the o-rings left on if needs be. It shouldn't do them any harm. If you can though, you'll definitely get a better clean if you fully strip the item down to its parts before ultrasonic cleaning. Hope that helps

Catching up on your bike vids. Great stuff! I usually put the carbs in a can of dip first to clean or at least loosen the heavy varnish, then into the ultrasonic bath. Distilled water and a Simple Green solution 9:1. Thing is, I think everyone uses something different - if it works for you, all good. I even saw one guy use gasoline. Not trying that.

@SPANNERRASH
@SPANNERRASH Год назад
Some things come up better than others, but unfortunately, there's not some magic cleaner that makes things of this nature look like new. The real benefit of the ultrasonic cleaner in this use case is it clears out deposits inside the carb that are otherwise impossible to get to. As for the outside casing, vapor blasting would give the best cosmetic "like new" finish.
