8:17 - 8:45 is the best part imho. Handling power supplies is only dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. So for some people its better they leave the power supply alone. As shown here its perfectly fine. The only thing I would do different is: I would've at least partly disassemble it first to see better whats going on inside and wouldn't've throw the fans into the ultra sonic cleaner. Their might be ball bearings in them which are not happy without some grease and geting new grease in them is more work than cleaning them with a cloth. I don't know but I guess Greg wouldn't've been sued for showing how to wash your power supply on his channel if someone is going to be hurt doing so...

There is NO WAY that I would do that type of cleaning with a PSU or fans. Some PSUs have cardboard or paper in them to direct airflow and as part of the transformers. A lot of PC fans also have unsealed bearings, if you get water in them it can significantly reduce their life. The other stuff is fine as long as you dry it out.

Something to keep in mind is that the power supply tester simply verifies that the power supply is still working and putting out the correct voltages. It doesn't forecast power supply health so a PSU that tests good a month ago could fail in a month due to capacitors already being on the way out.
@warrax111
@warrax111 3 года назад
That's true. It's always good to check capacitors inside, or possible corrosion.
@lunchie80
@lunchie80 2 года назад
A PSU with bad caps may already show some signs of voltage regulation issues so although you are correct, it should mean the PSU should be pretty healthy at that point. Bad caps usually fail fairly slowly before they finally pop, so you'd see some bad voltage a fair way out.

The best way to disperse water is with ethanol closer to 100% the better and it's dirt cheap to either make or buy.

There's another trick you can use the ultrasonic cleaner. Fill it with alcohol to clean PCB's especially... Very nice I have cleaned with ultrasonic cleaner many times before, however be careful of the PSU. As a motherboard it also requires thermal paste and thermal padding sometimes on some parts, so just investigate if that model requires any of those or it will have a very negative impact. Instead of using water you can buy none conductive electrical cleaner to use in the ultrasonic cleaner cutting down on all the waiting and mess and fuss with water.

One thing to watch out for with fans. Depending on what type they are you may have also cleaned all the oil out of the motors.

Speaking of profit... how about a Tech YES Store selling Aussie Multi Purpose Spray? As long as I can buy bulk, I'll save money while you make money lol I did find affordable spray locally, but it's still multiple times more expensive

my friend accidentally dropped a milk shake from DQ onto his pc and it all leaked down the fan into the MB . the pc was unplugged at the time, so i took everything off the MB including heatsink coolers for chips and put it in a tub with 92% alcohol and used a tooth brush to clean it all off . i didnt have any spray like you have. so i just used fresh alcohol after i took it from the tub for a final rinse . saved two MB this way so far.

I'd still use distilled water on all the parts at the end, it's cheap, and with no minerals in it it doesn't leave things behind that can cause shorts etc. Everything must be TOTALLY dry, put it somewhat near a heater for a day etc. That spray is completely unnecessary.

Hello tech yes....I have a Rx 570 that the HDMI port initial only displayed when windows 10 fully booted up.... Fast forward now it is not displaying at all. I tried my DVI port and it was displaying with no problem. do you know what the problem and solution would be?

never mind rusting out, most tap water is conductive (mineral water). Ultrasonic cleaning usually uses distilled water (pure water).

YOUR A MADMAN!!! But I guess you live in Australia, so you just leave those components outside for 20min, and they're bone dry LOL.

I like by the second part of the video you turned into Walter White's son off the TV show Breaking Bad. Props though cause I don't think i'd trust myself doing all this with an ultrasonic cleaner, I normally just sell my old parts on or send them to the Microsoft windows 11 E waste pile at the tip.

Omg what is he doing? I could not believe what I saw, my jaw dropped. DO NOT DO WHATEVER HES INSTRUCTING YOU TO DO!!!! Proper way to do this: remove/desolder all sensitive parts from PCB, especially all piezo buzzers, use a special undiluted PCB wash solution, preheat to 60C maximum, place prepared PCB in ultrasonic one at the time or in single layer, DO NOT STACK LIKE HE DID! Set for max 1 minute then flip pcb and set for another minute. That should be done, in extreme cases repeat for another minute, then wash with demineralised water (NOT TAP!!!) then wash and swirl PCB in 98-100% Isopropyl alcohol to ensure it displaces all water. Then try with air gun at 50C low airflow. And it’s done.
