Looks great! Is there a hard cover version available? (I can only see a soft cover version on the website) Does it need it's own dice to play, or can it be played with standard poly dice?

@@Raphaelus13 hmmm I wonder what the chances of it being reprinted as a hardcover are? Lots of other Exalted Funeral books are hard cover, so I might wait for a bit to see what happens. The UVG book looks beautiful, and really deserves to be experienced as a hard cover...

I know that can seem frustrating but as a commitment to our kickstarter backers those were items exclusive to the crowdfunding. As an owner of the standard hardcover, I actually think the softcover looks nicer. The Voidwalker Edition is the real prize, and of course is no longer available.

Oooh, the screen pdf is available for free on itch.io. It’s not the same, but you can print it out and use it.

I really like the ditching of attribute/modifier in favor of just using the modifier. It just saves a step.

Oh I get it! The grasslands are ultraviolet because it's west (left on the map) of the visible color spectrum, which is what the map resembles. That's so clever!

I love the UVG. But boy the first time you dig into it its OUT THERE and it doesn't make sense but then as you progress the language of the grasslands sinks in and the eldritch logic of the game opens up. I ran it with The Black Hack 2e but used maze rats spells. The seacat system wasn't around when I was running it. I'd like to see seacats in action but otherwise I'd probably use cypher system.

That stream was awesome to watch, was bummed that you didn't get a chance to make to the Black city. I think it's a great starting point people for hack UVG to run on other systems if they are so inclined.

Others have spoken about its Numenera-like flavor, and one even pointed out Journey to the West (which I haven't read yet, but I can see how the two would seem similar)! For me though, I immediately thought Dark Tower by Stephen King - they're both long journeys through a wierd fantasy landscape!

Maybe it's because I first heard about this from Skerples's blog where they talk about custom vehicle rules, but Ultraviolet Grasslands always gives me strong Mad Max vibes. Except with grass instead of desert sand. And also with magic and hyper science. Made me want to run an encounter with wagons occupied (and pulled) by skeletons, because you never know what will will try to run you off the road in such a place.

Damn this looks amazing. I feel like without the Map and Screen (both sold out) it would be missing a huge chunk. That screen is worth the price of the bundle alone.

What an amazing map and screen. Too bad I was not into OSR when that was on KS, totally went under my radar until it got sold out. I want to run it with metal background music at some point in the future when we get to face to face role playing again. The only thing that left me scratching my head in the SEACAT system is hit points (Life). I could for the life of me not find any rules or guidelines on how thy should be calculated.

There’s a little table right on the character sheet ... but I’m working on that. I will just say this: writing up rules is much slower than writing a setting!

while im all for filling KS first and looking after your backers, but once thats done no releasing stuff or making stuff OOP is just silly!!! change the cover, call it 2nd printing what ever - sadly this type of stuff makes me turn away from Indie stuff (remember not everyone hears about KS projects in time)

I think the challenge is how expensive the printing is. It's not cheap to produce a bunch of books that might sit in a warehouse.

I've always loved acid metal, specifically because of the imagery it evokes, and this seems to blend visual art and gameplay with those vibes really well

This looks amazing! We are running a Maze Rats game that exploded from a deadly one shot into a full-blown, continent stretching campaign. All my players are approaching level 7 and we added a lot of little customisation rules around the characters. We heavily expanded on the 4 "skills", added a second simple magic system on top of the wild Maze Rats spells and use 5e sequence damage types to make weapon choice and combat a tiny bit more tactical. Would you think UVG would be a feasible system to transition into? My players are looking for a little more grit and specialisations while it's also very important to us to keep things running fast and smooth without a lot of rule fuzz and space to improvise and continuously customise and optimize systems.

UVG is a setting, not a system. There's the beginnings of system (SEACAT) included but it's more of a preview. Eventually though, I think SEACAT will be up there as a go-to system for OSR because it's really neat and has some innovations I haven't seen before.

@@AhimsaKerp Yes you're right. I did a bit more research on it. but Seacat looks really cool and I think I'm going to built a hack around it's core mechanics. Maze Rats Skill/Attack Bonus/Spell Slot system translates quite smoothly to Seacats Skills I feel.

DAMMIT!! I missed the sale! (Also, I overlooked this video due to a busy few days) I REALLY what the bundle, but without the handy (and beautiful) GM screen and map, there is no point in buying it as just a book. With the pandemic calling off all the games in my area, I can wait for the reprints. . . :( There BETTER be reprints!

Okay so this is a long shot but this has been bugging me for weeks now I swear there was an OSR setting or supplement you reviewed at some point that was set in an arcane academy of some sort underground? Like underneath an apocalyptic world or maybe a desert? And it had a box set when it came out if I'm not mistaken. I cannot for the life of me remember the name or find it, if anyone knows I'd greatly appreciate it.

I would have used "Attunement" instead of Aura for Wisdom as being "attuned" to the environment or magic or yourself (implying wisdom).

How long are these weeks of travel supposed to take at the table? Is there enough interesting things for the players to find while traveling?

A week's travel doesn't have to take long at all - just skip the boring parts. I'm a player in a game of this currently and a week's travel in this can play the same as moving from one hex to another in a 6-mile hexcrawl (one random encounter, deincriment supplies). It's all a question of scale.

I didn't realize how important the GM screen and map were at the time I was paying for the crowd fund campaign, and really regret not getting them. In fact, I recall being promised that the map would be a fold-out in the book, and didn't see the information that it was a separate purchase. Oh well... I guess I can always get a PDF and print the map. Really wish I could get the GM screen though...

If you have the PDF, you can share an image from there: right-click on the image in your PDF viewer and copy it (it works in Adobe Reader and Sumatra, and I'm sure in plenty others) and paste it into a drawing software like Paint or directly into a chat (it works in WhatsApp, I didn't test others). I can't find a way to paste it directly into Roll20 so you'd have to save the image to a file with Paint or whatever and upload the file. You can also use a PDF tool like Poppler's pdfimages to extract all the images at once. This for the technical side of it. Legally? I don't know, but if I bought the PDF and I send couple of gorgeous pictures to my players, I'll certainly feel no remorse :)
