Filmed on top of Beachy Head near Eastbourne, East Sussex and features one of the Spitfires from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. A lovely tribute x
.....between July to November 1982 I have spent good time in Hastings, Rye, Eastbourne, Bexill on Sea and Brighton...studying English language... Loving memories 😊🇬🇧
A beautiful tribute to the heroes who defended our country from the nazis. We must never forget the men and women who sacrificed so much so that you could live in freedom. Today is even more important because the far right is everywhere. Don’t let the heroes of world war 2 down by letting the far right take away our hard won freedoms
Lovely indeed. My dad was in the 222 squadron as an armourer fitter. He wanted to fly but his vision wasn't 20/20. But he was talented with his hands and building things. My parents moved to Canada early 50's and I was adopted at birth in '67. Many memories they shared and thankful to have dad's wings and medals.
I Love Ultravox, and I'm right there with you...I'm 58, and I remember THIS was the Ultravox song my current wife (of 22yrs) played in the car, on one of our very first dates. I'll never forget being amazed & happily thinking, "Oh, my god, she likes the same music as I do!" ;- )
@@SD9Driver And Geoff Emerick as audio engineer ... who was best known for his work with The Beatles’ albums Revolver, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, White Album, and Abbey Road (one of the best engineers in recording history).
The song that made you feel like you could do anything in this world The world was at your hands No issues. No problems..just a song that meant happyness :)
Reap the wild wind A finger points to show a scene. (Take my hand. Take my hand.) Another face where mine had been. (Take my hand. Take my hand.) Another footstep where I once walked. (Take my hand) Take it all. You take my hand and give me your friendship. I'll take my time and send you my slow reply. Give me an inch and I'll make the best of it. Take all you want and leave all the rest to die. Reap the wild wind. A footprint haunts an empty floor. (Take my hand. Take my hand.) A fading coat that I once wore. (Take my hand. Take my hand.) Oh, desolation where I once lived. I have seen in times gone by. I have felt a different shadow on the wall, A stranglehold on a certain feeling. You take my hand and give me your friendship. I'll take…
Brings a tear to your eye. Them using the level in the video, actually doing real things, glorifying the advancement of the human spirit! I don’t LIKE the primitivism that’s dominating culture today, and I don’t like the excuses used to justify it! They’re about to rollout the guillotines. If they get the drop on me, I hope I can climb the scaffolding with head held high!
At 14, in the heart of America, this cassette was treasure. This band was a world of wonder, maybe best embodied in this classic. And when videos were rare windows into your heroes, this was a like a unicorn, or map.
Ultravox with midge Ure brung me so many memories of my childhood. Some sad some happy. I was bullied In school I faced so much of it until one day I fought back
A much underrated band. I had a pen pal in Tokyo that loved Midge Ure, she basically turned me onto this band, John Foxx, etc. What talent! I think All Stood Still was their first song I heard.
Rest in peace, legendary producer of The Beatles and Ultravox, Sir George Martin. Thanks for all the great works. Thanks for posting this great song too!
A song from the 1980s. So much nostalgia a song like no other from a mature band for mature people who appreciate class in music that harks back to more simpler times. Weren’t they times that we miss so much. This is a band will live In our hearts for all time even hundreds of years in the future when mankind is no longer mankind.
@MaGuffintop When I was 16 in 1985 I'd been into Ultravox for about 3 yeas and I started a YTS for painting and decorating and in the room where I was there was myself and 4 other lads two black two white, they came across as street wise types and pretty fake impressing each other, they soon took a disliking to me because I was just a normal young kid who spike my mind didn't want to impress anyone. After they'd laughed at me a few times one said I'm into soul what do you like (This was all of us on our first day there) the other lad said soul then he pointed at the other two, they said soul too, then he pointed at me and i wasn't going to lie so I said Ultravox. They all laughed at me and at lunch time one head butted me from another class room,i don't know why I'm telling you this I've never told it anyone before. I suppose it's just me saying be true to yourself. I worked the rest of the day but didn't go back the next day. I saw one of them years later and he was a junkie and still a bad lad,he didn't remember me but I remembered him because you don't forget bullies. I've always liked Ultravox and to be laughed at and headbutted for being different than these idiots is something I've never forgot..
I clearly remember when this video came on MTV and I was completely blown away. Not only was the song very good, but it was Land Rovers and not least a couple of fantastic sequences with Supermarine Spitfire filmed at just the right angle. A great tribute to The Battle of Britain and English heritage in general. Spiritually, it could not be any better and more emotional. I had a Land Rover Series III 88" (short version) at this time and I was a big fan of Ultravox. Together with my education as a computer engineer, the car and band formed the framework for my early adult life. This is definitely quite nice to think about today and I often listen to Ultravox and especially the album "Lament" which I undoubtedly think is the best overall today even though the previous albums are more pure "synth" and therefore in a way more authentic Ultravox.
Brilliant, some timeless classics from the 80's, kraftwerk, soft cell, OMD, amongst many. Then by mid to late 80's some appalling music from the factory of stock, aitken and waterman and house music, whatever the hell that was. This track a favourite of mine from Mr. Ure and co.
Man you know your stuff. I used to think the P51 Mustang was the best plane of WW2 but after watching, reading about the Spitfire its truly a work of art! The Spitfire was a better plane.
@@gregbowser2258 the spit was also the prettier woman, much as I like the P51. It's the Memorial Day weekend today. I expect some enterprising fellows will be flying their vintage warbirds out of Buchanan Airfield near me===I expect to hear the purr of a Merlin sometime today or tomorrow as they take their personal Mustang for a spin.
@@nickmitsialis What a great name for the Rolls Royce engine that propelled great Allied fighter planes like the Spitfire and Mustang; Merlin. What a great, fitting name, and they do sound GREAT!!!
Que creatividad! Que talento! Y que maravilla el youtube para expresar y compartir lo que uno siente al ver y escuchar esta pieza maestra!! Imposible ver videos como éste hoy en día.
Ah yes this takes me back to Duke of Edinburgh in the Cheviots, school discos, my parents who died so young of MND n cancer, chips n sausages on a Tuesday, the Kard bar in Newcastle,,so many memories, 56 now-what happened? I now have a lovely wife n have kept my health n happiness though. Northumberland 2024-a great place to be to keep away from the madness of the world today.
"Give me an inch and I'll make the best of it. Take all you want and leave all the rest to die..." I was 15 when this song came out. It still hits me today.
how i wish i could go back to 1986, nom im old and disabled but this music reminds me of my youth, and so i get a bit nostalgic, but the good news is that im no longer afraid of death i will take all my memories with me.
The Quintessential album from the New Romantic era - and the ultimate "NuRo" song. Masterpiece! I was working at a small radio station in Central California that played Adult Contemporary music. I was the overnight DJ so I would slip this song on to my playlist on occasion - usually around 4AM so station management wouldn't hear it haha. One day, the morning DJ came in and asked me what song I was playing around 4:15 that day. Anxiously, I told him figuring I was about to get fired (he was my boss). But to my surprise, he said, "I LOVE this tune." And we added it to the playlist rotation. It was a red-letter day!
I caught my mother listening so I had to check it out myself! Good stuff guys ….. love to see a show when I tour Europe this summer unless COVID kills us all first! Peace!
When I listen to this song it reminds me of a time not that I need anything to forget that my life was so much happier back then. This is for you mum. I know your here with me always will be holding me wiping my tears mum
You know how sometimes you search a half-remembered old song and it doesn’t quite hold up to your memories? Well, not the case here. Lovely. I will explore more by Ultravox.
I'm quite new to Ultravox (despite being in my 40s!) and I know they were successful but I still think they are seriously under-rated. Love Vienna but this, Lament and Dancing with Tears in my Eyes are now firm favourites with me...
