ULUWATU SINGLE FIN CLASSIC 2023 

As a true single fin era world wide surfing explorer I was a little late in arriving from Hawaii to surf heavy Uluwatu - my first go-out there was on a 15'+ day in mid 1979, and the Bukit was still deserted, open country. I rode my 7'10" Tom Parrish Lightning Bolt & I was the only guy out all day. Back then I needed to search around Kuta to find any guys willing to take the long trip out there, always an all day dawn to dusk ordeal. You have no idea how easy you have it now...OM

I really enjoyed that. With that much talent you guys and gals could ride on doors and still get tubed. I first rode ulu in '82 on a single fin. It was pure bliss for me. Such a great place and a great wave. With the best local people that took good care of us. Thank you again.

Great Video, 2 years ago I lived 4 months in Ulu (right next to white monkey surfshop). This video took me back, seeing all the places where I went to every day. I hope to be able to come back soon yeeew. Kribo also fixed a giant hole in my board I kicked into with my foot after I went over the falls at Bingin, I thought the board was done but he managed to make it as good as new.

Single fin you need to stand closer to the tail!!! Grew up surfing with Gerry at Ala Moana from the early 60s, long boards, then the transioned to Shorter Single Fin boards!!! Rode only Lightning Bolts Exclusively!!! Gerry's for the Smooth Transition, Reno's for Speed and Style, and My Brother In Law Brian Hamilton's Boards!!! Didn't need anything else!!! Then moved to Maui late 70s, Surfed Honolua Bay for 30 Years, the home of My Great Grandparents, Pure Hawaiians!!! Years and Years of Endless Barrels with the Westside Boys!!! Dont do that anymore But the Barrels are all in the Memory Banks!!! Biggest Barrel of My Life!!! Reached So Deep, right next to the Foam Ball , as I was coming down the wave I looked in front of me and the whole wave had pitched and was already broken about 15-20 yards ahead of me, the wave was pulling my Board up Backwards!!! Had to inch up slowly till I reached the bottom I was standing on the bottom inside looking all around me, was like I waa standing in a Warehouse, I was so deep I could not see the Opening of the Wave, I just kept on Gliding until I could see the Opening of the Wave...I made it I came out!!! The Power of Riding Lightning Bolts!!!
