UM 690 Minis Forum can Game? 

I’m in the same boat, might add an eGpu but the internal gets the job done. Any recommendations to get your games steady at 60 fps? I find mine dropppng on WoW and LoL frequently.

I was just looking at both, and right now HX99G is almost double the price of the UM690.

The UM 790 Pro is now on presale. With dedicated active cooling for ram and NVME x2 slots. With the new 780M graphics? You do not need the dedicated gpu now.

@@davefroman4700 I ended up passing on a mini PC, and ordered a Erying MATX mobo with a Intel Core i9 12900H 14 core (6p/8e cores/20 threads) off Aliexpress so I can reuse my case, PSU, and AMD RX 560 4GB GPU(will get a newer GPU at some point) with 512GB M.2 SSD, 32GB RAM, and cooler off amazon it was less than 470 bones, and I get more cores, and expandability.

@@CommodoreFan64 I wish you luck. Im sick and tired of having the space claim and noise of a full sized tower on my desk. Ive had one there for 40 years. Nor will I miss the 200+ watts of power draw it consumes either.

@@davefroman4700 the the Intel i9 12900H pulls between 35 watts - 115 watts at its max, which can be undervolted to reduce heat/power draw further, and the Red Dragon AMD RX 560 4GB GPU I'm running only pulls around 65 - 75 watts with no extra power plug needed, so even with system fans, an M.2 SATA SSD, and 2TB HDD I'm under 200 watts power draw on average usage, and I don't think the heat, or noise will be that bad. Plus I have the desk space so no issues for me, and yep I got my first computer when I was 2(Commodore Vic-20) so about 40 years of computing for me as well. If want to go ultra low power I pull out one of my Lenovo Thinkpads, or Android tablets with bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

Never heard of this, what did they do?

@@tiagomnlmnl Ok I just watched the first vid as there a three minisforum videos from de bauer, the one I watched was about the HX90 and I first heard about it from servethehome. It is not bad system but they could have definitely done away with the bad advertising, gong to watch the other 2, thanks.

With them, I love the back of the house but can’t stand the front of the house. Which is weird.

I just got my um690 today and tried it out with my coolermaster eg200 egpu enclosure and a nvidia 3070 installed. Works great!

much more then this. this is a high end cpu. no good gpu.

There are a few other models like the morefine M600 and Asus PN53 that you can get with ryzen 7 or ryzen 5 parts, the problem is seemingly ALL of the ryzen 6000 series mini PCs have had absolutely AWFUL supply(?) issues until now. ETA prime put out a video of a 6900HS mini PC almost a year ago but it wasn't until like a month ago that I saw any of them actually available for sale. It's taken AMD so long to actually start selling these things that we're on the cusp of the 7000 series parts launching.

Back in stock for pre-sale for me, they've been restocking them regularly ever since pre-orders went live a month or two ago.

150W in idle sounds really bad. Is your PC full of RGB, case fans and HDDs? My main machine uses 65W which I find too high already. (5900X, 6700 XT) Most is probably the water pump, fans for the 360mm radiator and only a 80+ bronze PSU.

@@Sunlight91 Probably mostly the 7900 XTX's terrible idle power consumption when attached to high res / refresh rate monitors.

@@MnemonicCarrier Not yet, I'm in the process of moving but I've delayed because of storms here in northern California. My UM 690 is sitting in a box a few hundreds miles from me. :(

I’ve been talking to Lenovo for weeks and FINALLY made it past the “have you tried turning it off and back on again” flesh bots, but I have very little hope tier 2 will be any use either.

still slower than the RX Vega M GH which is 4 years old.

Maybe add more heat pipes with thermal glue. Guys have done it on laptops. Otherwise look at the HX99G, more cooling and 66600M GPU.

nice - got my hx90g in late november, and it works like a dream as a replacement desktop machine

@@MrSmokinDragon Oops, I may have to hold off. One of the two UM690 is dead. Just powerered off and zero sign of life. Now to find out if their support/warranty is up to standard.

I’ve had Proxmox running on a um580 for ~3 months. Aside from not auto starting after power loss (which I might could change in the BIOS), I’ve had no issues.

you can do that with a khadas or the new rockchip for hundreds less. the korean company offers an i3 with case for $200.

@EberenRevo, aside from the video/game-room server that Wendell targets, the other target market for this is obviously the same market as the Mac Mini. As always, the Windows side of the Apple-Windows war is essentially describable as "similar coolness products that make it to market much later and at about half the price." So if you're rich and/or want to look cooler earlier to your friends, then you pay the 2X price for the Apple price, but if you prefer to spend the money you save on other things (and are not in a hurry) you wait for he suitable Windows product. This is probably the best Minisforum product thus far - although they have plenty of prior good products (especially the B550 that comes with its own eGPU cage that you can optionally use to essentially turn it into an open-air bench system). The UM690 maybe a little bit more power hungry than the Mac Mini but who's noticing, since it's low-power enough for most applications, and it's faster than the current Mac Mini (you gotta go to the Mac Studio to get faster yet). With the upcoming March release of new faster Mac Minis, Apple will probably leapfrog the UM690 in a smaller footprint - thus restoring the Apple-Windows war to the normal state of things = Apple a bit faster and a bit smaller and a bit cooler, but at least twice the price to get that faster coolness earlier than your neighbor with the smaller pocketbook. Regarding Steam Deck, you can always install Steam OS on a UM690 and have the fastest Steam Deck functional equivalent in town.
