i can tell that the parappa voice in the arcade machine is WAAAY more higher quality than what was in the original game. probably due to the arcade version having more space on the disc? idk, i don’t know much about tech
You'd be right. The content in the PS1 release of Um Jammer Lammy has cutscenes files that have taken much of the space in the PS1 disk (.iso or .bin), and with that, the audio clips for Lammy and PaRappa have been compressed to around 11025 Hz to be able to fit, this also applies with Parappa's cutscene files to be choppier instead of it being smooth. Sacrifices had to be made for the game to work, after all.
it’s kind of sad seeing how game studios had to do the most out every single bit of memory they had while nowdays you have games that are so unpolished that you need to waste a ton in SD cards to play them because the coders couldn’t bother
Also on a side note. There has to be a question for when parappa mess ups on a line. His oops is still low quality for some reason. I think again, they ran out of space. Or the mediocre staff felt lazy and didn’t change it. 8:24
With the current gaming landscape, original, interesting games like this are brushed aside for those boring generic “games” (more like crappy interactive movies) I only knew one person that owned a PS1 that knew what Parappa was. Sadly, the series was never that popular to begin with at least where i live
It makes sense that PaRappa has the same Fever Mode Combinations as Lammy and Rammy for Stage 1 considering they have both the exact same instrumental and lyrics.
The arcade doesn’t have an HDD so the disc space is the same (700mb cd-rom). The difference that the SFX are stored in ROMs on the board(s) instead of having to be included on the disc in the first place.
I so very look forward to getting a dump and having it running on mame. It's not the same without the cool gutarin' tables, but it'll complete the parappa collection for a lot of people. Thank you so very much for what you're doing, game preservation would not be the same without people like you.
The music sounds soooo nice on those speakers!! The satisfying bass boost and the vocals are crystal clear and stand out so nicely? My ears are so happy!! Maybe I'm just too used to hearing these songs in lower quality, but like even the bad version of the song manages to sound so much more crisp and that's really saying something considering what the music sounds like when that happens! 😂
I like those features that the Arcade had, but the PS1 OG hadn't. Having a fully working Parappa Stage 1 was cool, and the "Fever Mode" is game-breaking. Just entering it has you do a command and be on Cool, and when you are in this mode, your score rises dramatically! I like to call this "Ultra Cool".
Interesting they didn't record any new dialogue for Rammy or Multiplayer Lammy - it really makes me feel like this was actually _still_ unfinished but they just used pre-existing dialogue and were planning to polish up the game in a later revision.
5:10 I guess Lammy only got one "lose" line for VS mode. "2 Bummers..." does not fit as well with Rammy's victory line as it does with Parappa's "2 Cheers....".
It's gonna be really neat going into the specifics of this release. There could plenty of beta content, the captions in stage 4 are probably wrong now, we could get higher quality audio for the parappa stages or cutscenes at a decent frame rate, we might even have guitar effects that could activated with a different controller
Yeah, though the audio for it’s in the files on the CD: Lammy: “All right! Rock and roll!” Rammy: “We both jammed!” Parappa: “By the way, how you been, teacher?”
@@demetriadickson8345 How would they even save any time when they already have the source recording lol, which is definately higher quality. Did you mean by saving disk space?
its amazing that they got the rom for Umjammerlammy NOW! so i can actually play the level now! instead of trying to find an nearly impossible to find arcade in japan...
i'm assuming this game has different modes for what language and version you want considering the footage shows that the US censorship is in effect even though this was only released in Japan (although Rammy's subtitles still say "I guess I'll just go back to hell now" even though she says "I guess I'll just go home now")
The spoken dialogue only has one version, and the subtitles are only japanese or English (1 version each). You can see the options at the end of the video if you slow it down a bit
hmmm the scoring system is quite different compared to the original game both players start with 200 points instead of 300, and the penalty for doing nothing is 50 instead of 100... interesting! also rammy's subtitles are wrong when she loses xD
200 is the arcade default, but operators can actually set it anywhere from 100 to 500. The 50 penalty may have been because the game was set to Easy (I didn't have time to check).
I noticed the vocals were from the US version (though the subtitles showed the Japanese/European lyrics?). Does that mean stage 6 will be the US version? It seems odd when this is a Japan-only machine.
A thing I noticed is that in UJL NOW in 2-player.if a player doesn't do anything It minuses them 50 points. While in the original PlayStation release for UJL.if a player doesn't do anything in 2-player they get 0 points. For UJL NOW this is where I prove my point 3:42(pay attention to the score parappa gets to see)and check out this video to see how idle for 2-player worked in the PS1 release:ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hoSeWQYLpVM.html (pay attention to the score lammy gets)
Aw man, I knew I should watch RU-vid everyday of my life and Um Jammer Lammy is my favourite game, Aw well I Guess I wish you good luck for busy day @UmEricYockey, You're Amazing. 🤘🤘
