"Wow, and they made it an Action RPG." I think they're using the hybrid combat system from Daybreak, or something close to it. They're cutting away pretty quickly, but it looks like the ATB bar (turn order bar) appears on the left after Estelle initiates combat. So the action mode might be just for trash mobs and to try to get a combat advantage going into the turn-based battle against tougher enemies.

Speaking outside of Trails, I'm glad to see Yakuza coming to the Switch, as well as more retro fighting games from Capcom making a comeback. This was a pretty good direct, all things considered.

So it’s basically a 75% chance that if Nico does an LP of an older game, a remake/remaster will be announced eventually. So, we’re basically waiting on the LP if we want Twilight Princess to come to modern consoles.

It's a very special feeling when you become a fan of a series and get to be excited for the next entry for the first time, happy for Nico. Also that 3 second snippet of the trailer music has been in my head all day since EVERY news source reporting on it is replaying the clip lol.

Just to be clear, The Trails In The Sky remake is not an action RPG. It has a variation of the combat from Trails through Daybreak, which is the most recent game. While it has a mode where you can do some action rpg like stuff, the main combat is still turn based like the original games. Basically you start in action rpg mode and attack until you stun them, then switch to turn based mode for certain advantages.

I think we should make Nico play Tales of the Abyss so it gets a remake

This Direct was a solid 8.5/10 for me! Trails in the Sky FC getting a full remake is so hype and it looks beautiful so far! My only complaint is that it should have shown off the full trailer rather than quickly show up in a sizzle reel. The Capcom Fighting Collection also looks awesome and Atelier Yumia looks incredible! The Hundred Lines also showed up in the JP Direct and we got a release date on April 24th, 2025! This Direct was amazing and I’m looking forward to what the future has in store for us!

Trails is in the backlog for like 7 years, and a few weeks into the playthrough, they bring out the remake That is some eerie timing... Also Nico needs to be informed that basically every Tales game starts out pretty slow and uneventful, but they all have this "mic drop" moment in the narrative that recontextualizes everything prior. If you aren't into that kind of pacing, Berseria starts off with an immediate hook, so that might make a good gateway game.

I should clarify that Trails in the Sky the 1st Remake is not just an action RPG, it's just that the newest system from the later games allows you to fight random monster in a pretty basic action combat system if you want to (which makes farming way faster imo) but you still keep the turn combat at any time you want. In fact, the turn based combat is usually obligatory to go back to for important battles like bosses

The gameplay of the Sky Remake is a mix of action and turn based similar to Daybreak. You didn't catched this in your live stream, so I wanted to point it out.

I discovered you because of Trails in the Sky. Now I can’t wait to see you play through all the Trails games. I’m especially interested in what you’ll think of Cold Steel since that’s where I started. Not usually a fan of action RPGs but we have the original still so if they are going to experiment with that I guess it’s good to do it in a remake.

I'm just gonna throw a few game names for no reason now. Chrono Trigger, Suikoden, Breath of Fire, Grandia, Wild Arms, Shadow Hearts, Xenogears, Threads of Fate and Skies of Arcadia. Btw if by any chance you felt like MANIFESTING remakes to any of these, well, that'd be neat.

Its not a Action RPG but its modernized to what current Entries have for Turn Based Combat.

I think playing Trails in the Sky FC is still valid, even with the remake releasing. I just have a huge soft spot to the old style of games.

Really glad you're not gonna stop the LP to wait for the remake. And like you said, it's a smart move to play them as they are now because the SC remake might be another year off or something, and you kinda do need SC to complete the story. I mean you need the rest of the series too, but you know what I mean. FC, SC, it's in the names. You can now just play the games as you want since all of them are translated, and by the time you do get to the latest one, it'll already have been translated anyway. And like, you'll get to see how the series evolves like this, which is another neat thing. Just kinda rambling, but yeah.

To say the least, being a Trails in the Sky fan has never felt better than now.

To repeat my comment on another video, this would've been a simple 7/10 direct but Pizza Tower coming to the Switch, Star Overdrive, an exciting new IP reminding me of Treasure Planet turned into a Adventure Character Action Game, the Suikoden remaster FINALLY getting a release date AND CAPCOM FIGHTING COLLECTION 2 COMING! Really bumped this to a 9/10 for me

Im so relieved to see Tales if Graces getting a remaster, which probably means Xillia one and 2 will as well. When Bamco took all the tales games off ps3 and vita stores it worried alot of the fanbase. Bamco is known for how badly it treats their IP, so people feared the worst.

My immediate reaction upon seeing Trails was "Oh man, Nico's going to be spitting nickels." 😂

I don't think the trails remake is action based because what looks like a turn order pops up on the left after attacking an enemy. My guess is that all battles just happen on the overworld and instead of the grid you can see a blue circle pops up which is probably Estelle's movement range for her turn.

What's crazy about PizzaTower on Switch finally is that the game itself was originally built off of the developer hating that Nintendo seemed to refuse to make a new Wario Land game, so he went and just made his own. And now it's taking the place of modern Wario Land on the official system. As I recall, everyone in the discord was basically saying it was impossible due to it being basically direct competition to Wario Land. Congratulations to Mr. Sauceman and his success. Also RIP Lario and Muigi.

Nico's timing is actually hilarious, first time a remake's been announced during an active LP. At least XC1 was already finished for nearly a year... Still, it'll be released (late?) next year, and SC + 3rd will probably take a further 3-4 years to be remade, so it's probably better this way.

They just glossed over it too.

I feel like Sky SC Remake could happen relatively fast after the 1st. Falcom is really good with ressources. With thet 1st done they have a majority of what they need to do SC too. And they don´t have to worry about localization since they are using XSEEDs script, based on screenshots we have seen. But I´m still glad you are doing the original, the remake looks amazing and I´m excited for it, but the old games are charming anyway. And when you move on to the next games after Sky you will have an easier time since the series improves over time. Instead of jumping into the modern remakes and later having to adjust back to the older games with some janky mechanics after getting used to all the quality of life improvements these remakes will likely have.

Tales of Graces is one of the best in the series. If you ever only play one, this would be a great pick.

I do think I kinda prefer character designs in original to remake in this case x'D Remake makes them look much more softer in features if that makes sense

The Sky remake probably uses the same combat system as Daybreak. You can fight out on the field and perform attacks/rolls to dmg a stun gauge on the enemy, then you get to enter the turn based combat with an advantage.

Tales of Graces was originally a Japan-only Wii game, that was apparently quite buggy. The PS3 version is the 1 that most Tales fans are familiar with. As someone who still has their old Graces F game, it is easily 1 of the best games in the series. If you haven't played it yet, Nico. Highly recommend giving the game a go. It's long enough that the story feel great, & doesn't overstay its welcome in terms of length. And the Future Chapter, that part can be a real challenge. Especially boss at the very end of. To sum up the final boss in the Future Chapter. They can give Lingering Will a run for their money. I only ever managed to beat that boss 1 time, out of dozens of attempts.

Nico, Tales Of Graces was originally release in 2009 on Wii however it on release only in japan including enhanced version "F" on PS3 in 2010 also release only in japan then in 2012 release in west for "F" version

Don't feel bad Nico. It wont be released in JAPAN till 2025. I can't think of a single Falcom game that released in Japanese and English in the same year. I'm guessing English in 2026.
