That is the difference between then and now. No effects, no half dressed women, no twerking, Steve Perry is live, as is the entire band. This is how it was. Those effects did not exsist at this time. You made your way by pure talent. What you heard on a record, you heard in person. This was rock and roll.

Because we know we screwed up. Our predecessors got through everything, including world wars, cold wars, etc. And we brought the world to the brink and we'll probably soon go over the edge and we'll all be screwed. There won't be any more generations. Unfortunately, "Don't stop believin" won't help anymore, the train has left the station.

We older generation can't begin to describe the music and attending rock concerts back in that era. Attending rock concerts in packed stadiums, arenas, etc was down right AWESOME and made you feel alive. I feel sorry for the current generation for not being able to attend live music concerts because the current "professionals" are all computer enhanced if not generated and are unable to present personalize, ad lib lyrics and conversations with each other and audience for the BEST inclusion experiences EVER!

Now you know why we older people say our music is better. Acts had to have real talent, or they didn't make it. There was no corporate backing, internet, computer aid (autotune, etc). They had talent and worked their asses off to make it. Dive in in to Journey live. That concert there, front to back, is a great start. Happy Thanksgiving.

There really is something special about Steve Perry's energy onstage, and you can feel it within the first seconds of hearing his voice, but it's only really communicated when you SEE him sing. I don't know how to describe it other than that it feels like he's just... manifesting connection with everyone there. He's here to see everyone enjoy themselves, and he loves it, and knows how good he is at it, but it comes across as almost... humble, for lack of a better word. The man's voice is a gift, and every line he sings says "This is for you. This is for us."

@sarahwiebe6592 3 месяца назад
He once said he was only that good because of the fans. He said he would 'go and get' that best part of him when the audience showed up. He said that without them, he didn't have it. That's super humble and sweet!

Yep, no tricks, no autotune just pure talent. Clear as water. He was actually nicknamed Steve “ the voice” Perry because of how unbelievable people found his voice to be. This is officially my favorite reaction, one of the only Rock voices in history to both give me chills and tears when I heard him for the first time when I was 11. I’ve never been so proud that my parents raised me on stuff like this instead of all the crap on the radio these days. This is real music, real rock. Listening to Journey is more than just listening to good music, it’s an experience. It never fails to blow people’s minds. I get a surge of endorphins just seeing that face people make when he starts singing. 😄

One of the best singers in popular music. Period. I saw them in '79 in Oakland. With his Levi's and black tuxedo tails, and long raven black hair, he was the dark raven of rock n roll. Steve Perry always connected with the audience, eye contact (as much as possible) etc and really drew you in. Also, part of what makes his voice so special is this was all pre-autotune days. His voice carries emotion because it is real and not all technologically adjusted.
@helenespaulding7562
@helenespaulding7562 Год назад
One of the best power anthems ever composed. It made you emotional because it was simply superb. And his voice is just sublime….untethered to the earth. It just SOARS. The beauty and power of his voice still gives me chills even after 40 years. One of the most perfect pop rock voices in history He left the band in 1987 or so. The dream had turned sour…drugs and fame had taken a toll. He became a semi-recluse back in his hometown. Married the love of his life snd lost her to cancer. Released three solo albums. But never reunited with Journey nor sang with them again he walked away from it all. His decision, but DAMN I wished he’d made more music with them. His voice was a gift ….but the success it brought turned it into a burden for him. And that saddens me.
@SueK51
@SueK51 Год назад
Helene, Steve never married Kellie Nash. She did die of cancer; he knew her situation when they started dating. He walked away from Journey because the band was pushing him to get hip replacement surgery. That was an individual decision to make, and not a band decision. Journey had already started interviewing new singers; the writing was on the wall. I will listen to Steve and buy his records as a solo artist, but no way will I listen to Journey with Arnel as the front man.
@helenespaulding7562
@helenespaulding7562 Год назад
@@SueK51 I get both sides of that issue As I understand it, Steve wanted to try a naturopathic approach which meant there was no way to tell how long the process would be snd how long the band would have to wait for him. The band….. because time is money, wanted him to try surgery so they could work with a schedule and set up touring dates etc. I understand that completely. It was Steve’s decision for sure, but major decisions like that which effect the livelihoods of so many people have consequences to them.

Just found this reaction. It is a reality my generation of this time knew consistently. People interacted. It was a matter of honor and true love for those who worked hard to perfect their craft. We saw them. They saw us. We were faces seen and hands touched. Hearts broke and love was sent out. We MISS this. THIS REAL contact. They HAD to be craftsmen with real skill, or we didn't show up. THEY had to be real, so we could be real back. Yes. I got emotional, too, watching and listening to my life in retrospect. We didn't even know what we had....till we suddenly.... didn't.

One of the most unique songs out there. There chorus doesn't come until near the end and before 2 mini guitar solos.

I was 11 or 12 years old when I saw this same tour in upstate NY. It was one of the most amazing nights of my life. Beautiful reaction!

Loved your reaction. I got emotional as well. Used to drive around with my eldest who was a little boy at the time, singing along with the cd (might of even had it on cassette). Thank you for this one.

You should try out any of the songs from this concert it's amazing. I actually had to miss this concert but my boyfriend was there in 1981 and he said that he cried nearly the whole concert it was that moving

No Pro Tools or Auto Tune back then, just pure talent! He is known as “The Voice”….Great reaction!

I was in Gibraltar then for a couple of years. I missed out on 'Journey' but listening to the songs were incredible - adore Steve Perry 🥰
