I purchased the same bike back in September. I am coming from a CF Dura-Ace bike from 15 years ago, so I can only compare my old bike. I am glad you mentioned that the bike is twitchy at low speed. I noticed that too. I have to be careful when I take my hands off the bars. The top-tube storage is ok but a picked up a fake water bottle tool case and it work out great! No more saddlebag. I have installed TPU tubes and love it. Not going tubeless yet. Ride quality is unbelievable. 30mm in the front and 32 in the rear, is an excellent combination. I never imagined going electronic shifting, but with the Ultegra Di2, it is a game changer. I can never go back to mechanical. I removed one of stack spacers and it feels better. Overall, I love the bike! It looks badass and rides like dream. Looking forward to your long term review.

Hey! Thanks for your comment. Yes, the 30 mm in the front and 32 in the rear is just hte perfect balance between comfort and speed I believe. The electronic shifting is very good too -- are you uisng the "semi automatic shifting"? It is quite a cool feature IMO. I might remove some spacers in the future too. For now, I am still getting used to how the bike rides. Long-term review will come up for sure :) Enjoy your Endurace!

I have decided to purchase this bike. Absolutely the best bike for the money. So many goods points to numerous to list. Will purchase either in December 2023 or January 2024. I am excessively salivating - have to change shirts every few hours. May have to purchase sooner😂😂.

I'm in a similar situation, I bought a Grizl 8 before the summer that I'm really happy with. But almost all my rides are on asphalt, and now I'm looking for an excuse to also buy an Endurace CF SLX 7 Di2. Great input! :)

Hey, thanks for your comment! I think the Endurace will nicely complement with the Grizl you have :)

i was sceptical about the top tube storage (to much of a hassle to get the stuff out), but i already needed tools and it worked fine, it was easy enough and it's cool to have a dynaplug, CO2, CO2 "pump" and the tire levers on board, leaving space in the saddle bag for other stuff. The only bummer is that TV remote look and that it's the place where your sweat drops during a climb. Obviously, the downtube would be better, but because of the split saddle post, they can't put the DI2 battery in there so they have to put the battery into the downtube blocking it for storage. That's why the grail with a normal seat post has bottom tube storage.

I got the Endurace CF SLX 8 Aero (comes with the DT Swiss 35mm deep carbon wheels) less than 2 weeks ago. 4 days shipping from Koblenz to Australia! For me it is to replace my old Ultimate CF SLX 8 (mechanical Ultegra) that I’ve ridden 31,000 happy kilometres on. This Endurace has a more relaxed geometry than the Ultimate so first thing I did was remove the big spacer from under the bar stem to reduce the effective stack to be the same as my Ultimate. I also set the bar with to the minimum 400mm (20mm narrower than my Ultimate) to keep It aero. :). People said why didn’t I buy another Ultimate if I’m setting up the Endurace similar to the Ultimate. Well one thing is I’m not young any more and I might want to choose more relaxed geometry by putting the spacer back in. Other reason to get the Endurace CF SLX 8 Aero here at AU$7,900 it is AU$2,000 cheaper than the Ultimate CF SLX 8 Aero which is AU$9,900! Both are the same spec SLX carbon layup, same handlebar, same Ultegra Di2, Same DT Swiss 1400 carbon wheels (excerpt 50mm deep on the Ultimate, not 35mm). Yet Canyon can get people to pay $2,000 more for the Ultimate! The 30mm and 32mm wide tyres is mind boggling for me. So FAT! My first road bike many years ago had either 19nm or 21mm wide. My old steel bike with 1990s Dura Ace still runs 21mm wide. My Ultimate came some years ago with 23mm. Now 30mm and 32mm??!!!! Well good thing is the bike doesn’t feel slower and my Strava times are similar but the ride quality is so good with the fat tyres and VCLS split seatpost that in fact it feels so smooth and effortless even though I’m going just as fast. I’m not a fan of the top tube storage either. I bought the wrench tool kit to go with it and it does all fit but it’s a tight fit and the little door is ugly.
@HeyImRod
@HeyImRod 10 месяцев назад
Hey, thanks for watching and for sharing your experience! 4-day shipping is not bad at all considering the distance. In Switzerland it usually takes 2 days to arrive once the bike has left Koblenz, so 2 more extra days to cross the entire planet is not bad haha. I was also debating between getting the Ultimate or the Endurace and came to the same conclusion: paying ca. 2500 Swiss Francs more for the Ultimate just wasn't worth it for me. I was also putting a lot of weight on comfort, so the Endurance was the perfect bike for me. Tire width -- coming from my Grizl's 45 mm tires, I was quite suprised how thin 30 and 32 mm tires can be hahaha. I cannot imagine riding a bike on 19 mm or 21 mm tires -- I guess the aero gains are so marginal at that point that it's just better to go with 25 or even 28? Top tube storage -- So do you find yourself taking the wrench tool kit in the top tube storage or have you given up on it completely? I am not sure what to do to be honest. I even considered putting some tape to cover it and forget about it. I am doubtful about its long-term durability.

@@HeyImRod it’s been proven in the last 5+ yrs that on the less than perfect roads most of us ride on, slightly wider tyres at a lower pressure is actually faster as narrow tyres at high pressure causes energy loss through the micro vibrations from rumbling over rough road surface. Of course at high speeds there is an aerodynamic loss from the fatter tyres but most of us mere humans don’t ride fast enough all the time for that to be an issue. Slightly fatter = smooth = fast. Tubeless is even better. Even world tour team riders are using 28mm which for racing a road bike is a good balance between aerodynamics and smooth ride. 25mm is out and certainly 21mm of old! I have 28mm tubeless on my titanium bike and that’s really nice. 28mm tubeless is as comfortable as 30mm with tubes. Having said that it does come down to the surface. On an ultra smooth velodrome where speeds are high and the surface perfectly smooth, narrower tyres at very high pressure reduces the contact area and is aero. You won’t see wider than 23mm and pressures up to 180-200psi on latex and silk tyres. I am using the top tube storage to test it out. Reality is although I ride 200-300km per week I rarely need to access tools and very very few flats. If I had to get the tools out often it would be annoyingly awkward and slow. I have the Canyon ratchet tool, tyre levers and a CO2 cylinder. It fits but it’s tight. But you still need to carry a spare tyre (even if running tubeless which I will switch too). At present I’m going without a saddle bag because why would you have a saddle bag if the bike has interval storage? Well because it’s sensible to have a tube just in case so I have one of those tiny TPU tubes in a plastic bag in my back jersey pocket.
@HeyImRod
@HeyImRod 10 месяцев назад
@@shred3005 Yes, most of us mere mortals will definitely do just fine with 28mm tires -- especially on an endurance bike. I think I will put a 30mm rear tire once the original ones need to be replaced (hopefully not anytime soon). I might do the same thing as you regarding the top tube storage. At the moment I still have the saddle bag with an inner tube but I will look into the TPU tubes.

Hi just wanted to ask did you consider other options as well if so why did you choose canyon over lets say specialized or Cannondale. I really like this bike btw and am seriously considering it.
@HeyImRod
@HeyImRod 20 дней назад
Hey! I considered Specialized Roubaix and even the Tarmac... But I already had (very good) experience with Canyon, and you get a lot of bang for your buck with their bikes. I would've had to spend around 1k-1.5k more to get a similarly spec bike from other brands. My bike mechanic is more than happy to service Canyon bikes so that also made my purchasing decision much easier. Lastly, I really like how Canyon bikes look, but this can be subjective!

Hey HeylmRod ! Thank you so much for this video - I just ordered the same exact bike last week and expect to receive it early March ! So I will definitely rewatch your assembly instructions when the time comes - just one question : is there some attachment underneath the integrated cockpit for the Garmin ?
@HeyImRod
@HeyImRod 7 месяцев назад
Hey! Yes, there are two screw holes that can be used to attach the Garmin mount. I am not exactly sure if there are third-party options for that, but Canyon offers some of their own mounts that are compatible with the Garmin computers.. Here's a picture of what the cockpit looks from underneath: preview.redd.it/garmin-gopro-mount-for-cp0018-aerocockpit-v0-7nu00knmkmib1.png?width=898&format=png&auto=webp&s=7b4825903e4adcf092402b865bb0336514f75717 Your bike should arrive right before Spring starts, perfect timing ;)

Can you confirm that the frame could be fitted with a 54 tooth front chain ring? Basically look at the mount for the front derailleur and see if there is the range to raise it higher. Then look at the clearance at the rear and see if the front chain ring was wider whether the teeth at the back would contact or clear the chainstay?

Great Review! One question: how about Canyon size suggestions? Have you taken the size, that the on-line configurator told you to take? is it OK? Have you gotten the bike fitted? Cheers!😀

Hey! I bought a size L, which is what the calculator recommended. I haven't any issues except the saddle, which I find a bit uncomfortable. I got a bike fit for my gravel bike and then just copy-pasted the measurements to the Endurace. Thanks a ton for watching :)

@PawelEPGD 5 месяцев назад
@@HeyImRod Thanks for your recommendation. And what about this aero cockpit? Is it the issue, that you cannot adjist the angle of a handlebar?
@HeyImRod
@HeyImRod 5 месяцев назад
@@PawelEPGD The aero cockpit could be an issue if you have problems with the stack. Particularly if you need even a higher stack. You can lower the stack by removing the spacers, so that wouldn't be a problem at least. I find the bike still on the agressive side but that's because I am 190 cm tall, so I fall on the upper end of the size range for a large.

What if you put these wheels on the Grizl, ever tried it? Not sure if you really needed the Endurace, I would have gotten the Ultimate instead.
@HeyImRod
@HeyImRod 10 месяцев назад
Fair point. I considered the Ultimate as well, but there was a huge jump in price (ca. 2500 Swiss francs) between mechanical and electronic Ultegra components. It would’ve already come with a carbon wheel set but I am not a big fan of those. I was also looking for a more relaxed geometry, as I love doing 150km+ rides and am happy to trade a bit of aero for comfort. If I could’ve gotten similarly specced Ultimate for the same price, maybe I would’ve thought a bit more before getting the Endurace. Also, switching wheels on the Grizl is a fair point. I just didn’t want to find myself switching wheels all the time.
@BartSchrijvers
@BartSchrijvers 10 месяцев назад
@@HeyImRod sometimes canyon’s offering isn’t 1 on 1 comparable indeed. Of course makes sense why someone would want the Endurace, I’m just wondering how it would feel if you swapped the wheelset. I would definitely try it, if only to make some content / consumer advice. I don’t have these bikes, I would be very curious if the Grizl could’ve been the one bike for both situations. I have a multitude of bikes, not one is so versatile like the Grizl. I have a Canyon Inflite for a more racy geometry, but it is just as quick with a road set as my road bikes, just slightly higher bottom bracket and visually big wheel gaps to get used to.
@HeyImRod
@HeyImRod 10 месяцев назад
@@BartSchrijvers you are totally right! I also think the Grizl with the 2by setup can potentially be the best for both situations. In the current setup, the weight difference between the two bikes is quite noticeable -- but maybe the wheel and tire weight add up (plus the frame weight). Indeed, I am also very curious about how the Grizl would fare on tarmac compared to the Endurace. The new Grail can also be a interesting proposition, but I am not sure how the much longer wheelbase would fare on tarmac. The Inflite is also a very nice bike! =)

The instructions with the bike is to roll back some of the bar tape and then reapply so that it covers the exposed area. But that widest setting it really too wide for most people unless very broad shoulders and so would use the narrower setting which requires no tape adjustment. That’s how I set mine, at 400mm width even though I am a large, broad shouldered guy. My other older bike is a Canyon Ultimate size Large and it came with 420mm wide bars. Most people would consider that a bit wide and I’m finding 400mm wide ok even though I’ve ridden 31,000km on the other bike with 420mm
