Hey guys! This is a really special episode and I'm happy to present it on the official channel with this extended cut. Dad recorded this during a scary time, and Gamecube helped distract us from all the chaos. Have any great Gamecube launch memories? Let me know in the comments. Thanks everyone.
Amazing clip the extended cut is more wholesome idd. GC was such a great console in EU where I'm from it launched around April to May 2002 but be4 that we were graced to witness Luigis Mansion in our local video games store ( the Japanese version) we were blown away by the gfx and gameplay LM wasn't Mario 64 but it certainly had its own unique powerful formula going on for it and at that time it was just amazing to see the leaps in visuals every new system was light years ahead..Later we bought the Pal version of the game when we finally got the system. Amazing console worth every penny. Your Dad was amazing!
I’f your dad is still with us bless his heart. He really loves technology unlike a lot of dads. If he isn’t, I’m sorry you’ve lost such a great father. Thanks too your father and yourself for such great content man.
Cameras back then were able to film CRTs properly cos they matched the refresh properly. The videos these cameras were filming were most likely going to be watched on a crt back then so they had to match up
My mom worked her butt off to get me the silver Gamecube and Metroid Prime bundle. It is one of the best moments in my entire life receiving that for my 13th birthday. This video is very notolgic and it feels like going home again. Thank you for sharing these moments with your dad, Tyler. It warms my soul whenever I watch.
The gamecube was a huge part of my childhood that really helped through some rough times. Thank you for this trip down memory lane, it can hit people in the feels a lot harder than they think when they remember.
I remember saving up and buying a Nintendo Gamecube - I was 17 and had a job that allowed me to save up and get it. It was the first console I bought with my own money and I was so excited with getting it that I forgot to buy a memory card! I had rushed home to play Resident Evil and got pretty far in it. I didn't want to stop playing but I knew that I was getting to a point where I needed to save so that I wouldn't lose my progress. I had to suck it up and run back to the store, my console still running with Jill waiting patiently in a safe room. It was one of my favorite consoles that I still regret trading in many years ago. The Star Wars Rogue Squadron games, the Resident Evil games, the Metal Gear Solid remake, all were glorious. In college, we all huddled around the TV to play Resident Evil 4, perhaps the best RE game ever to date. I love these videos you upload, it transports us back to those simpler times. You and I are roughly in the same age, but my father had passed away when I was really young. I'm hoping that when my son is old enough to create memories like this you had with your dad!
If I ever become a father I hope I can be like your dad. These videos feel a lot like home and seem so genuine which is something that is not often seen in our world. Thanks for the video uploads and keep up the great work!
You don't want to be like this dude's dad. He never fathered his kid and treated him like a friend instead. It caused this dude to be raised without any sense of responsibility. You definitely *do not* want to repeat this guy's dad's mistakes.
@@MyRetroLife your dad seemed like such an awesome guy I only wish mine had cared about me. Consider yourself very lucky to have had a father who cared so much.
Wow your Dad invented the Unboxing Videos we see every where today. Amazing!! I remember getting my son his gamecube for Christmas and playing games with him on this amazing console. Thanks for making these videos always takes me back to my times with these old consoles to.
Thata not true, every father worldwide filmed their kids unboxing gifts(mine did back in the day too & my home videos are older than this one)these are facts.
I'm always amazed with how much footage this channel preserved. These are personal family memories caught on tape, but it also captures important moments in life that SO MANY people can relate to and lived through in their own way. Love it
A friend came over one afternoon to play some video games with his kids in the summer of 2001. With me being a PlayStation and Xbox gamer I’d never seen the GameCube or it’s games before. My friend had just picked one up with some games and brought it over to try out. I was blown away!! The remake of Resident Evil and Luigis Mansion made it a system getter for me!
I do believe this was my favorite generation of consoles. Such an exciting time. I graduated HS in 2001, and was going to College/Dorm Room in the fall of 2001. I was in my dorm for 9-11. Everything was cancelled on campus for 2-3 days. I had a PS2 first, XBOX 2nd, and a GameCube last. I've always found myself leaning towards the "underdog" when it comes to consoles. The PS2 was fantastic for the first 2-3 yrs. Then I got into the XBOX, which by 2002/3 had really turned it up. It looked so much better than anything else, and XBOX Live was just the coolest thing (I wish I could relive those early XBOX Live lobbies playing PGR2, Rainbow6, etc.) I finally got a GC in 2003 or so, and it quickly became my 3rd party machine. I loved it. It was right in the middle of the PS and XBOX in terms of power/graphics. The GameCube controller is STILL my favorite controller of all time. It doesn't look like it would be good at all, but it simply melts in my hands.
Tyler, another great video! Even during a dark period of global history, times like this brought a sense of calm and normal to our households. I also was a sophomore like you when the 9/11 happened, turning our worlds upside-down. The 6th generation of consoles brought me a needed distraction and sense of happiness. Thank you!
I appreciate videos like these. They help recapture that moment of fleeting nostalgia. A chance to relive that moment in our childhood/adolescence that we yearned to re-see. Thank you for these.
TYLER!!!!! I couldn't comment on your video for your daughters top 8, but I just wanted you to know. I LOVE YOU! I think you put the most heartfelt video game shows out there! Your nostalgia is our nostalgia! thank you!
My first video game console was a GameCube, got it way back in 2nd grade. Still have the same one to this day, and I will always cherish the amazing experiences I have had with it over the years. Still is one of the best consoles ever made!
Only a week and a half after that horrible day, I was 17 and just started high school and saw it all unfold. Glad we got Xbox and GC a few months after, really helped me personally. Never forget the north tower antenna falling and collapsing ☹️ Wish I had the relationship and video games w my mom or dad, still remember my mom taking me to Fedco and target and getting snes and n64 boxes out from behind the glass and getting rung up. 90s-mid 2ks games were unmatched.
Me and my lil bros first console was the Ps1 but our second was the gamecube, i had never played Nintendo growing up but my older cousins would always be playing Dreamcast, Super Nintendo and N64 i love the channel dude ive literally binged like exery video this week, amazing memories and what a great time youve had with your dad and family. Lucky to have it all on tape too thats wild
I think on scale of 1-10 for cool dads I think your dad was about 1000! 😂🙌 did he know by recording all this that one day it would make you a star on RU-vid, me thinks your dad thought out of the box and knew this would be important one day, and he was 100% right! Love all the videos you’ve uploaded absolutely amazing! 👏
Great video as always 👍. You're dad was super cool. I remember that time. 9/11 was like nothing I had seen, wasn't sure how to react to it at the time as it was so unreal. As for the GameCube, I remember not being so excited for this one but it grew on me over time. F-Zero GX and Resident Evil were a couple of my favourites. My fiancé however loves the thing! She recently had to sell her launch system due to a rough financial situation but we got past that. Little does she know I've bought her a new(ish!) one for her birthday next month and copies of Pikmin and Luigis Mansion. Next month will be awesome 👌.
Great video, I love how your dad always comes across as just getting pure enjoyment out of watching you discover the new consoles/games and worlds they opened up for you. How amazing that he took all the videos for you and us to enjoy! Always enjoy your videos
Great video. Thanks for sharing this with us, American history and gaming history. I didn't get my GameCube around launch time. I got my Platinum Edition Nintendo GameCube bundled with Super Smash Bros Melee and I bought WWF WrestleMania X8 in 2005. It was my console I bought with my own $ that I worked for. I will never get rid of it. Nintendo 64 and GameCube are my favorite consoles. My best friend got the Jet Black GameCube and WWF WrestleMania X8. I have fond memories with that game. At the time we were wrestling fan when it was great the Attitude and Ruthless Aggression Era.
This was the first gaming anything that I had bought myself. I'd saved birthday and christmas money for like three years and bought the purple GC and a ton of games from the local CompUSA. Man seeing a video from the same year is taking me down memory lane.
This makes me miss my Gamecube, it was my personal favorite console, I had found memorys of playing, Super smash bross melee, Mario kart dubble dash, Paper mario the thousand year door, F-zero gx, Batman begins, Super mario sunshine, Star fox adventures, and Zelda wind waker + I got mine bundled with collectors edition.
Very few moments in life rival that new-console feeling. Dad too surprised us with a Gamecube -- he was enthusiastic enough to get stuff at launch but not enough to import them like your dad does here. He's still around but has long moved on from this sort of thing. Probs led me down a long road of Final Fantasy games that continues to this day
I'm watching this on 9/11.. damn... you mentioned it, and instantly my anxiety goes up... 9/11 I remember every minute of that day. lived 40 mins from the world trade center... #NEVERFORGET..
Ahh the Nintendo GameCube. I turned 15 a couple of months before the release date and saved up my birthday money. I bought it right at midnight. Star Wars Rogue Squadron was my first game. Luigi’s mansion, Super Mario Sunshine, and Resident Evil 4 were favorites of mine. I wish I never pawned my GameCube and games.

The best videogame console of all times. Best controller, best graphics, small size, handle, interesting peripherals and not to mention the unforgettable games. But people were hunting Dvds at that time, and that killed it.
My dad would buy me every console as well but he never was intrigued with gaming. It’s freaking amazing to see the love you and your dad had for gaming. May he rest easy knowing how much joy these videos bring to everyone who watches.
I remember I had 60 euro to spend and spend it on a random game Def Jam, we never really played it until we did me and my friends with 4 players and smash bros. We played the heck out of it.
In 2001 i remember playing system shok 2 which was released in the year 1999 and i struggled allot in solving puzzles this is the first game that have puzzles that i played
I have the gamecube at christmas 2002 with Smash Melee ,Rogue Leader and wrestlemania x8 it was one of the greatest day of my life i was so amaze with the graphic and the performance of the gamecube compare to the dresmcast that i have !!! I am still piss that they only rerelease Luigi Mansion for the 3ds insted of a remaster for the switch !!!
I was hyped about the Game Cube when it was still known as Dolphin. But I ended up getting the Xbox and never had Game Cube back then. Finally got one last year though. Trying to build my library. Great video by the way.
Very nice video. I really appreciate this kind of content because I am former video gamer and retired already. My consoles/handhelds are NES, Game Boy, PS1, PS2, PSP and PS3. By the way, I am a Filipino citizen so my consoles/handhelds were bought in the United States. During old days there was a regional lockout and compatibility of our television for NTSC and PAL. Also I did not buy games or consoles in Japan or Europe because english is our second language. Looking forward to watch your upcoming videos soon.
I got my first Gamecube in July 2005 for my 11th birthday and by early 2010 it started messing up on me which I had to move to the Wii to play my Gamecube games on. Currently today I have 3 Gamecubes which are indigo, silver and black, I got the silver one at yard sale for 10 dollars back in 2019 and last year in 2021 I got the black one for 15 dollars and I take them apart with my special tools and give them a good cleaning so they will run smoothly.
In that time, it was nearly impossible to get multiple systems in Brasil. The consoles were and are very expensive. I got a Ps2 and a great friend bought a gamecube. I'll never forget the first time i saw the star fox fur in Adventures and the freezing air coming from sub-zero's mouth in MK V. A couple of years later, this friend got murdered and his mother gave me his Gamecube, i still taking care of it.

Love these vids. reminds me of when i bought my gamecube at best buy, one week before the price drop and inclusion of zelda games. Still love the gamecube
We bought this game and my brother played through it in 1 day and we went back to the store saying we didn't like the game so so traded it for another.
Started my first game dev job in my early 20's around this time. The North American games were in the store before the actual system. My company had imported a Japanese system. Apparently it could be modded to play the North American games. Not having a gamebit I drilled out the screws and modded it so we could play the North American games we got from the stores. Boss wasn't too happy about that. Can't remember the last time a Nintendo system came out with such a great lineup and excitement about playing the new games that we would go to such lengths to do so. 😁
Wow, I’ve region modded a couple consoles myself, but how did people figure out the exact spot on the board to bridge to switch the region so soon after launch? Devs just knew? That’s a cool story

Amazing!!!, a Unboxing before RU-vid even exist, its the destiny....the very first Nintendo Gamecube unboxing, your dad its a pioneer...he has the vision of what it was the future...
Me and brother started with GameCube then went to PS3 Slim. Looking back we made the right decision didn’t experience the PS2 personally like would like but the ps3 was our ps2 in a way. Plus as kid I even knew GameCube had better graphics then PS2 but had weak games compared to what my friends where playing at the time.
Any truth to the theory that the GameCube had small discs to try to fight piracy? I remember people saying that back then. Also that Dreamcast games were easy to make illegal copies of? I never messed around with that myself so no idea if that has truth to it either.
Man, I'm thinking. There was a region lock, how did you get usa titles working on? Did you sell it later and changed for an usa model? Or the games just worked?
