In this video, we unbox a Service Grade M1911A1 that I got from the Civilian Marksmanship Program.
The U.S. Army marked M1911A1 seen here is an update to the original M1911. It's historically known as seeing service with U.S. troops during WW2. The M1911 would serve with many U.S. Troops from WW1 up until the 1980's and even 90's. This pistol was designed by the legendary John Browning.
John Moses Browning is considered one of the most innovative entrepreneurs of the gun world, and his 1911 model is one of his most famous creations. Browning began developing the 1911 in the late 1890s and it was adopted by the United States Armed Forces in 1911, hence its name. The 1911 quickly gained a reputation for its reliability and accuracy, and it remained the standard issue sidearm for the US military until 1986. Browning's 1911 design was revolutionary in its time, featuring a short recoil operation, firing a 45 cal projectile, and a single-stack magazine which allowed for a slim and comfortable grip. The 1911 design also featured a thumb safety, a grip safety, and a slide stop which made it easy to operate and safe to handle. The M1911 set the standard for many modern handguns and it is still widely used by many military, law enforcement agencies and civilians today.
❗️Edit: The number on the barrel is not the serial number, it's a part number. Agter a closer look, the barrel says .45 auto, 7791193 and tgen a 85. In the left side it says TZ 10 P. On the right it says M. A thread on the CMP forums states: "The 7791193 is the Ordnance Dept Part #
Some later versions had a two digit year code (90 shown in example = 1990)
The M on the right lug indicates the barrel was magnafluxed (magnetic tested). On the opposite side the P is the normal proof that is applied.
The manufacturer's markings vary. The bores on later barrels were chrome lined. The barrels are known to be manufactured by S&W, H&R, Colt, Mec Airtronics, IMI, LB, Kart, National Aerospace, Roto 3, GEN II, Duroyd, and MKB. The earliest year code I have observed is 83 and the latest 92. I do not know exactly when the part # started being applied to the chamber hood, but have some 60's vintage barrels that have the number applied…the TZ mark indicates Israeli made, IMI, under USG contract”. other sources indicae the same.
💯So the barrel on this one was prudiced under contract by Isreali Military Industries (IMI). It’s dated 1985.
