Got mine in the beginning of April, mounted outside about 6m higher up on my roof, speeds are amazing but not as reliable I'd say. Unfortunately no fibre as yet in my neighbourhood but 5G works well. CPE needs to be mounted as high as possible for line of site.
Amazingly helpful video. I like that it's not too technical either for the basic user! Keeping my router by my bedroom window. Getting around 250Mbps with a really good secondary router. More than enough for me
7:27 @ecologicaltime Great video! I just wanted to add that the router is probably powered by PoE. In case you use CAT7 cables you can use a length of up to 100m.
I used to struggle with intermittent connection, so the best advice I got was to split the bandwidth and create separate passwords for each SSID. If the 2.4ghz is down, I can switch to the 5ghz if the device allows, and vice versa. The network experience is fat better since I split our 9 devices between the 2 bandwidths. I still use the internal router, by the way.

I have upgraded to Rain 5G Premium from Rain 4G LTE. Installed the 5G Outdoor CPE N5368X router with IP 192.168.8.1 I still have 2 x Huawei B618 routers that I want to use as Access Points. The one B618 in the TV room, cable connected, works fine with the IP changed to 192.168.8.2 and DHCP disabled. The AC1200 in the passage, wireless connected, works fine WPS connected to the B618 access point in the TV room. The other B618 in the bed room, cable connected, does not want to work after setting IP to 192.168.8.3 and disabling the DHCP. I have tried various setups but can not get it running. Is there something I am missing?
Hi, I was hoping you could help - router is showing green lights and when I log in to the router it shows that there is a signal, but the Rain optimiser is showing no speed reading and says "your router isn't connecting as well as we'd like". The router is outside and has a signal
The quetion for me is that if it is raining outside, like it's pouring hard, will it still work? I know it is water proof but I still want to know if I will have to get something to protect it when it's outside.
Thanks for great video. When will you be doing the follow up on the settings for this router. Suggestion video is maybe methods for getting around the CGNAT? See they assign private WAN address so things like hosting, gaming etc will be affected.
My web interface looks very different than yours and I know the guy set it up used the same web interface than your, I need to unlock my device from a tower, the technician locked it to a tower because it was jumping between towers and I keep on losing signal

Hi, your video was splendid for my initial setup. I have the 5G (200 mbps) contract. I live in a apartment building, on the 1st floor and my balcony is in the complete opposite direction of the 5G tower 🤦🏽. Doing the rain speed tests I get max 40 mbps download speed🤦🏽 I had a look on the upper floors of our block and it appears there’s a small roof that faces directly to the 5G Tower and zero obstructions. The only concern to me is that the cabling required is about 50-60 meters. Can you advise what type of cabling I need to use and then have 3 x Ethernet cables for the TV’s and then a WiFi router so that my kids can connect their iPads and phones to the WiFi? thanks. You can use high quality Ethernet cable minimum specification of Cat5e but preferably Cat6. If the cable runs undercover then normal copper is fine. If it runs in the sun, it needs to be UV resistant cable. Before running the cable, go to the site where you intend to do the install and do a test with your laptop to make sure you get the connectivity speed you need. Your other devices will be connected via the local switch/router. If your router is 100mbps then you may want to get a Gigabit switch for all your devises to connect to. If there is a power source closer tot he CPE device that is better but should still work from your apartment. I have not tested the CPE with such a long cable with the supplied power supply. You could test it by buying a 100m cable and testing it before you run the cable.
@@ecologicaltime hi, thanks for the feedback. I measured it more accurately and its a 48m long cable required. I was able to source Cat6A cable and this is probably a bit of an overkill. I have in the interim got a WIFI6 router with 4 x gigabit ports. I havent as yet installed the Rain 5G router to the top of the building. I have a question... at the moment when i do the OOKLA or Rain speed test from my balcony with the ethernet cable directly into my laptop i get 90-95 Mbps. When i run the ethernet cable into my new TP-Link Wifi 6 router, then the speeds go up to 160Mbps. How is this possible when i havent moved the Rain 5 router a mm and its still on my balcony?
Hi bro, I have one of these and wanting to know if I can link a outdoor external 5ghz antenna. Currently mounted 4m above roof and getting around 200mb download and 20mb upload with rain.
Yes it has been out for over a day now. I feel like the simcard isn't working working but ok N my rain account it shows is RICAed. I am somewhat confliced
I just bought this, and when I plug it in the wall (power adapter) there is no light coming on. Please, if there is anyone who can assist? Also, will this light only show when you are at the address you registered it? Thanks
Make sure you use the LAN/PWR cable for the power source and not the LAN cable, slight difference but big effect. LAN/PWR transmits both data and power whereas LAN only transmits data. Also ensure your cable click-locks into the socket

you can try, the shorter wavelength is good for some applications and if you set up many networks, you can separate them in frequency. I prefer longer wavelengths

Signal in test of the house is perfect. we have the black Huawei WiFi router from Telkom, would we be able to use this as a booster for the signal range?
I received the router yesterday and im struggling to connect, i did activate the sim as shown in you post and did receive a decent 350 mbps speed but now it keeps telling me no good signal, and how can I connect my xbox to the router and add extra lan ports? i think i need to install device outside but i don't think the wifi will work well for online gaming? i see you mention a switch? where would one be able to buy one?

If you get a switch, just make sure its gigabit per port and that every connection from the 5G router is gigabit to your gaming computer. If not possible, install a fast wifi access point but know there are limits with wifi.

Hi love your video. I have done the same as you. Mounted it on a mast above the roof. Signal strength is also excellent. But my Internet speeds is bad Struggle to get 50mbts per second. Tried everything. Did use a 24awb cable. Please if you have any suggestions.

its a flat building so its good. Better on the mast t6han in a cupboard as wifi signal reduces when going through walls. Roof tiles are thinner so better.
Can anyone please tell me if I need to be concerned for my and my boys health when purchasing this device. I know there’s a lot of hype around 5G being dangerous and there are so many contradictory studies etc. I can’t imagine it’s anything worse than us being surrounded by so many 4G devices already. If the waves were symmetrical and repeated it would be a different story. But cellular transmissions have unsymmetrical waveform and power radiation patterns. I limit cellphone use by my head since my first cellphone which had its antenna inside. Do you recall the old phones had the pull our antennas? As soon as fibre is in my area, i will remove this wireless radio off my property. All radiating devices in my home are disabled, Ethernet only. Next step is to tin foil my house like a Farady cage - okay last point was a joke, but that's how i feel. I barely use the microwave... its a slippery slope... fitness trackers on the wrist... bluethooth speakers... Ipad/tablet with wifi on your lap... but one this is for sure, the further you are away, the better. So a cellphone by your head for 10 minutes is more concerning to me than a 4G or 5G radio that is 30 meters away. In 2001 i did a brief study on this, met senior radio engineer at Vodacom (under Vodaworld headoffice Midrand there was a full radio testing network - amazing place, i read statements by the radio engineers at Philips and Nokia on this matter. Conclusion was simple - try to limit radio waves away from your head and body). This point is actually stated in your user manual of your radio devices by the way. Even the Blackberry phones had this warning.
ecologicaltime Thank you very much for your reply and info shared. To my advantage and disadvantage I found recently found out RAIN doesn’t have 5G coverage in my area. It’s so weird I’m like in a small catchment area of Randburg that sits smack bang in the middle of no coverage for 5G but we are surrounded by 5G just not in my small area as yet. I’ll enjoy my health a little longer but I definitely am keen on the R699 uncapped 5G offer
Thanks for the informative video. Do you know whether there's a way to change the DNS on the router so that it makes use of 1.1.1.1 instead of the ISP allocated DNS?

I have found an article that indicated that you can go to the DHCP tab inside the LAN tab where the options are to change the device IP address etc. Then you can inspect the code and search for the primary DNS and secondary DNS fields which you will find to be hidden by a display: none CSS property. You can reveal it then and input your prefered setting. I have done that, but when I save it doesn't stick! So there's a way, but some default setting probably overrides it.

I have had my 5G router outside on a 3-meter stand for about 3 weeks and consistently got speeds of about 250Mbps down and 45Mbps up. Yesterday I placed it on a mast on the roof like in your video (about 6 meters up) and now suddenly I am struggling to get more than 130Mbps down and 20Mbps up. What's up with that? I thought the extra high and clearance would help but it seems to have slowed down.

I know they said it is waterproof but is it safe? it is right on top of my roof I managed to get full 5G bars on the Huawei router page but still when I am testing the signal I am not even close to 100Mbps Is there any advice you could give me to enhance my speed.

I have put the router outside and high when i log in the rain website to optimize it keep on connecting on the antenna which is 1.2km away instead of the one at 0,75km. Using the huawei router website I am able to pick up all 5bars of the 5G and 4G but when I do speed test I am not reaching 100Mbps What I am doing wrong or which website must I use for the test?
great step by step video. I see that Rain has launched the "Huawei 5G CPE Pro" indoor router for the 5G for home - standard plan. Any idea whether this is worth while, as one can only use this one indoors

not sure, sorry you would need to ask Rain. i dont see any reason why it wouldn't work. The sim card just allows you access to the network according to your profile.
Hi there, thanks for an amazing video. We have a network already setup with our computers in our home using our dlink gigabit router. Is it possible to connect our rain to our current setup so we can retain our network and use the rain router just for internet feed into our network? Any advice would be appreciated.

Here's a trick, take your device and connect it at your workplace or at some place where the service is active, then activate it from there, once activated, go back home and plug it in, it should work
I want to purchase this package however we don't have 5g in our area yet. I noticed you have to activate the sim for it to work. When you don't have 5g in your area the activation won't work. I think I found away around that by just using a friend's home address. I'm just worried if i make the purchase the sim won't activate or won't give me accurate speeds because I chose a different location for activation.
I got an excellent signal, both LEDs have their green lights on but it keeps on sending an error msg after testing results "Your router is not connecting as well as we'd like". Also registering no network speed.
I managed to fix it through the speedtest after they responded with a more detailed procedure to an enquiry I had sent to them. Thank you very much for your response as well as the video. It was very much helpful!
How I can connect the tplink re450 extender with this router?! I did the reset of the extender and finished the setup. once i connect to the extender the communication lost. I connected the extender back on my old router it works with no issues. Old router is B2368-66
Guys I received my router and is active when I check on rain page but I don't have a network security key and the SIM was already inserted into the router I also don't ge the optimize option. What can I do since support from rain is not available.
i tried a Telkom sim card and it didnt work, however it may be because i dont know the Telkom settings. I think Rain use a VPN as their user IP addresses are private
