Bradley receives his very first completely new pipe (aside from some unfortunate basket pipes), a Savinelli Punto Oro Sterling Silver Military Mount, Shape #128. After a minor mishap involving his new pipe's stem, he waxes poetic about its charms and takes it for its first smoke! Another very satisfying Savinelli experience!

Bradley: You probably know this but FYI the legend is that the military mount's origin is from the English cavalry needing to pop their pipes apart quickly when going into battle without running the risk of cracking the shank. I have no idea whether the legend is true but it seems to make sense. Keep Puffin.

Fell in love when I first laid eyes on this pipe. After about a month of searching BINGO. Can not wait to receive my first Punto Oro and luckily it was a decent price for a Punto Oro. Appreciate your content and look forward to more brother.

So that bad boy came in today and I was surprised by the size of the bowl 😆 It’s going to take a minute to smoke this one down. Put obsidian oil on the stem as soon as I took it out of the box to keep it protected. My first vulcanite stem, did quite a bit of research. Certainly won’t be my last. Absolutely gorgeous pipe. I thought my Miele was beautiful but this is every bit as good looking.

If you have a mishap and dent a stem again, try applying some gentle heat to the vulcanite. A lot of times the heat will lift out the dent. You can lift smaller tooth marks out the same way.

Haha funny how you mentioned the frank method, as I saw a punto oro savinelli similar to yours in Achim Franks store some weeks ago. He thought me his method aswell, very funny guy, very special, perhaps a little bit crazy. Nice amps and guitars man.

Greetings. I've been trying to get into the hobby recently, and I've been enjoying your videos very much. Your approach is simple and practical yet refined and unique enough to maintain interest. Bravo on nailing that sweet spot. I got my starter pipe from a nearby tobacconist in Ridgewood, NJ, a "Spitfire by Lorenzo," which I can't seem to find any info on, but as far as I can tell the only thing it smokes well, in my limited trials is the "golden burley" sample I got from the shop. I can't find an exact shape it matches from the standard charts. It has a very slight bend (1/4 bend (?) if even), and I'd say it's a hybrid between a brandy and an angled pot because it tapers up (wider bottom), but it's also got a flat bottom making it a sitter. I also got a peach aromatic from the same shop, and that smoke just tasted burnt and bitter. I ordered some SPC plum pudding and GL Pease Meridian and Gaslight. Tried the plum pudding and gaslight, and both were also just burnt and bitter. I feel fairly confident I'm doing a decent pack because, again, the burley smokes and tastes great. I don't want to blame the pipe, but I'm not sure what to do or think. In the meantime at least, I'm on the tail end of deep cleaning two estate pipes I got on Ebay: a Savinelli Trevi rustic 111 KS and a Don Carlos big bowled brandy (best guess) sitter (two little carved feet flair and protrude off the end of the base of the bowl. The Don Carlos has me confused as it has no note markings evident, but it has a wide, fairly ornate silver band with the composer dude engraved in it, which seems like a fancy feature for a no note example. Also, the stem has no markings (wondering if it's a non-original stem). I'm also wondering if it predates the standard markings (unsure if that's even a thing). Anyway, sorry to give you my pipe story, but I came across this video after searching a pipe I just ordered from smoking pipes dot com. I had basically decided that I wanted a smooth Savinelli 122 having seen multiple sources stating pots work well with complex, robust blends. After searching various places I came across a sterling spigot, smooth Bordeaux finish in the 122 shape on sale for $126 (marked down from $312 I think). I couldn't pass that up. So yeah, again, sorry for the long story. Just wanted to express my appreciation for you enhancing and encouraging my hobby and let you know how this aged video became the most recent of your videos I have watched. Thanks again sir, and I look forward to your future work.

Lovely Savinelli Bradley, I've seen looking to purchase a new pipe that the rusticated & sand blasted pipes the bit is of a nicer acrylic/Lucite material not ebonite/vulcinite with a band between the shank vs smooth models costing more.

A new subscriber. Great channel. I do have one question, as a new pipe smoker, where do you get the mouth piece (sorry, may not be called that) that you seem to put on toward the end of your video? It is located at the shank of the pipe that you put in your mouth. I assume that it is to protect the shank from teeth marks? Just wondering. Keep up the great videos. Lived in Washington State for 4 years. Was a wonderful place. Take care.

Cater821 - Thanks for watching! The "softy-bits" as people seem to call them, are pretty readily available. My local tobacconist always stocks them, and pretty much every major online tobacco retailer does as well. They're made by B.J. Long.

I like that pocket knife, stag scales, German made? I mainly collect Italian switchblades but just recently I have broadened my horizons! just last week I purchased a nice quality Spiderco which I am digging. For the price range it is a good buy and I also just bought a Boker pocket knife with nickel silver bolsters and beautiful stag scales. Solingen.

This may be rude, but I'm curious what you paid for this pipe. Savinelli has quoted me a price as these are out of production, and I want to make sure I'm not getting screwed TOO hard lol

I don't think it was more than $150, but I seem to remember that being rather cheap compared to the list price.

+Stuff&Things If you ask me, if a pipe is damaged easily it's inferior briar. My first pipe was a savi 2 nd(sistina)and I abused it like hell. It came uncoated, smokes even better then when I got it. Cheers.
