Have any of you heard of Buckeye Amps and what do you think?

I’ve had my eyes on buckeye amps for a bit. Would definitely be high on my short list if I ever decide to UG

You know, there is so much out there but the Buckeyes check off a few things for me so looking forward to seeing how it does.

That Buckeye amp will be a serious upgrade from the Emotiva. I am anxious to hear your thoughts on how it works with the Arendal speakers. Keep up the good work 🍺

I am also considering the same Buckeye Purifi amp (2 channel version) similiar build as the one you purchased. very interested in seeing a follow up sound/performance review. Thank you for this!

I’ve been following the Buckeye Amps story on ASR for a couple of years now. Before the end of 2023, I will purchase a pair of 1ET7040SA monoblock amplifiers for dedicated 2-channel music listening.
@RandomDistractionsYT
@RandomDistractionsYT Год назад
That should be a nice setup. I've only known about it for about a year but I have read all of the posts in the BA section and based on that is why I decided to try it out. Hope you can get to purchase those sooner than expected.

And? How does it sound in your setup? Or did you only measure it and discuss the “measurements “ on ASR? 😂

I got his Hypex NC502MP 8ch Amp a few months ago for my bed layer. Solid amp and good customer service. I run my SVS Ultra towers on it….sounded better than my Emotiva amp, but I never compared before/after data.

How do you like this amp? He mentions the 6 channel can be bridged, can you bridge channels on this 8 channel amp?
@H2OFSU
@H2OFSU Год назад
@@honda12345678 I like the amp, have had no issues with at all. In retrospect I would have gotten 2 of the 4 channel amps as the box dimensions would have been better for my setup, but thought 1 box would look cleaner. The extremely short power cords are the only thing I wasn’t thrilled about. Yes, each of the 4 modules can be bridged, but audio science review had the data showing it introduced more noise, so I’ve never done it.

If you haven’t yet bought that Panasonic UB820, how do you watch 4K movies (or Blu-ray’s) ? Hopefully not by streaming as I’m sure you know that’s not Lossless Audio. Or do you have a Kaleidoscape?
@RandomDistractionsYT
@RandomDistractionsYT Год назад
Haven't gotten the UB820, currently still use my Xbox for 4K Blu-rays. I'm on the fence because I know that physical media is the better option but do I just want to save up for Kaleidescape? I don't really have the space for physical media but getting into the Kaleidescape system is so expensive at least for me and my wallet. At my current fun money savings it will take me about 2 years to afford the entry level. I did get to see it in action recently at another person's theater and it does work and look great though.
@AeroDude73
@AeroDude73 Год назад
@@RandomDistractionsYT oh, yes, it is very, very expensive, I know. So how do you watch movies, please don’t tell me you just stream them, and suffer through the lossy audio.

Subscribed! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts about the amp. I'm planning to buy a six-channel Hypex NC502MP from Buckeye in the next few weeks. Speaking of random distractions, just a gentle suggestion... maybe save the off-topic stuff until the end of your videos? I clicked to watch a video about Buckeye Amps and you spent the first two minutes talking about Dolby Vision. Almost turned it off at that point but glad I stuck around. You have a great style and presentation! Anyways, just my two cents. Maybe saving the good stuff for later makes people stick around 😆

Thanks I appreciate the subscribe and for checking out the video. I'm hoping to get to it soon as it is currently on my desk still. In regards to the suggestion, I appreciate that as well. In the future I'll just mention in the beginning that I have something else at the end of the video so thanks for the feedback!

@ryanw8664
@ryanw8664 Год назад
@@honda12345678 I decided to jump up a tier to the 3-channel Purifi module for home theater. I'm sure I would have been happy with the 502s and doubt I could tell the difference, but FOMO got the best of me. Even Dylan tried to convince me it wasn't necessary. That said, I'm VERY happy with how things sound now.
@honda12345678
@honda12345678 Год назад
@ryanw8664 the purifi modules are cleaner than the 502. However, think i could make use of the extra power with my speakers. The ncx500 looks like a better all around amplifier module for power and distortion just comes at a price premium. Thanks for the info.
@ryanw8664
@ryanw8664 Год назад
@@honda12345678 Yes, the Purifi modules have less distortion, but at the levels we are talking about, is it even audible? I doubt it. If I could go back, I would get the 502s for the cash savings and power to spare. Is your system primarily for home theater or music listening? According to Dylan, Purifis make more sense for critical music listening (less for home theater) and/or the person who wants the absolute "best" for peace of mind... at least until the next best thing comes out 😆

Didn’t ASR find an issue with this amp? Has it been resolved?
@RandomDistractionsYT
@RandomDistractionsYT Год назад
Yes they did find an issue with a rise in distortion that is not present in other Purifi models however from what I read it doesn't seem to be noticeable when listening to it so the amps are still going out. Buckeye Amps will find a fix for it and will work with current owners to make it right but as of today there is still not a fix available. I still have it on my desk so haven't hooked it up yet but hoping to get to it this week and in my next video will touch on this subject as well once I get to listen to it. I figured I could also do a follow up video once the fix is issued and provide some feedback on that too.
@larsv6144
@larsv6144 Год назад
ASR has nothing to do with sound quality. Listen if it fits your setup, room and sound preference. Cult leader Amir and his minions can’t measure or determine that.

How would BuckEye 3-channel amp hold up to a Mark Levinson 533H (AB) power amp? I am interested in the musical abilities, not just power.
@RandomDistractionsYT

Unfortunately I don't have any experience with the Mark Levinson but from what I see online it seems like a really capable amp. Maybe someone will see this comment who has some experience with both.

I’ve never heard these but people swear by them on avs forum it looks cheaply made and it’s class d ? I prefer class a/b and they are expensive
@RandomDistractionsYT
@RandomDistractionsYT Год назад
Yeah, the case won't win any beauty pageants for sure. I have another video where I go over the DIY fix of replacing the tabs and besides the tab issue the rest of the inside looks pretty good. The only comparison for sound that I have are the receiver itself (class a/b) and the Emotiva BasX A5 (also class a/b) and at least in my listening space the Buckeye sounded the best out of the three. If you prefer it the a/b though, there are lots of good options.

@@RandomDistractionsYT I’ve had a emotiva a3 and a outlaw 5000x that’s the only two I have any first hand knowledge of and price too is a big factor for me .

I had the outlaw on my short list as well. The other thing that did sway me to the buckeye is, not sure if you can tell but I don't have much space so the compact size of these amps also pushed me to try them out.

You stumbling onto the audio “science” review (ASR) website surely fit your channel name Random Distractions. Don’t talk about the ASR (Amir) and his cult members as credible please. Measuring and listening/hearing audio equipment is not the exact same.
@RandomDistractionsYT
@RandomDistractionsYT Год назад
Yeah stumbling on there and finding about Buckeye was definitely random. Don't know much about ASR as really the only forum I really read on was the one on the Buckeyes to learn more although I do agree on the measuring is just a part and you should always listen to your ears and what it tells you. I try to include some sort of measurements in my videos because some people like to see that but ultimately prefer to give my listening impressions. Thanks for checking out the video!

I'm shocked the av guys are going with Buckeye, a one man show. How in the world could you trust proper support. If it was 75% off maybe but for 2 grand, no way.

Buckeye Amplifier has been doing what he does for going on three years now and I challange you to find a bad review about the quality of the amp (better than VTV and Audiophonics) or the level of service. What the guy is doing is simply assembling the "kit" with all the very best Purifi/Hypex compatible componets availible at an EXTREMELY fair price I do not own a Buck Eye Amp but it is on my short list. I'd rather give a USA small business my $$$ over DEI Holding or Sound United. We all gotta start somewhere, and the owner of Buckeye is off to a good start and his reputation is stellar. Wanna feel better buy a NAD M23 for 3x the price....

@@balooo2863 if you noticed I didn’t say anything about quality. you have to admit it is a risk for not much savings. The gets an ulcer or breaks a leg playing basketball and then what. I’m for helping a US startup but that’s called crowd funding…wish him the best
@balooo2863
@balooo2863 Год назад
@@trauma50disaster1 No you didi not bang on the quality of the product (because you cannot) but you are suggesting there may be an issue regarding service or support because Buckeye is a one man show...I've got news for you, the higher up the chain you go in high end audio typically the smaller the operation FACT. Pass Labs was a one man show for many years. Odessey Audio makes probably the best a/b amps you can buy under $2000.00 again one man show and has been that way for 15 years now, loves what he does and takes care of his customers and simply has a passion for sound without corparate BS. I think Buckeye has passed the acid test growing his business during the worst business climate in my memory during the pandemic...This is not crowd funding it is boutique audio and apperantly it is not for you, Best Buy thrives for a reason... All the best

They go of the measurements of 1 cult leader Amir of ASR, so 1 person company and support fits in their mindset. As long as it measures good… who needs to listen or worry about technical support 😂;-)
