Santa came early for me this year. I sprung for a PowerCap Active Powered Respirator unit. I recently learned after a genetic test that I have something called Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency inherited from both sides of my family. This means I have a high likelihood of contracting certain lung diseases such as COPD or Emphysema. I have always been fairly careful in my woodshop but I decided to up my level of protection with a powered unit from JSP. One of the many benefits of this style of respirator is that even if you have a beard or other facial hair this will still protect you from dust. Unlike other respirators that require a seal around your face which is near impossible to achieve with facial hair.
