Thanks for going to the trouble of creating this setup video - my AH200 is arriving here to Ireland next week and very much looking forward to setting it up in my home workshop.
@@woodcraft_cz I'd no sooner ordered the AH200 with the cast iron tables than the AH260 showed up for sale. It's a pity the shipping is so expensive or I'd return and get the larger model, but I'm sure the 200 will do just fine for the limited hobby work I throw at it.
@@EntropiaGuitars oh wow there is a 260?!?! didn't realise, I actually retired my AH200 this week and replaced it with a Jet 410HH, finally found the space to go large format. going to look into the AH260 for curiosities sake though 👍
Considering getting this one, though probably the AH200s with the cast iron tables. Thanks a lot for the video, very practical and helpful about the setup and adjustments!
I would get the “S” myself too, when I purchased this, the “S” line wasn’t announced, I will likely be upgrading the tables though at a later date to the cast iron ones 🤟
Tx for this video and it 's interesting reading thru the comments below. This video comes at the right time, as I am currently considering of buying it ;) And I will be happy to have a German manual 😄
Hello. Are you still happy with it a year later ? I would definitely be interested in hearing your thoughts after you used it for a while, I have a small workshop, a small budget and I make small things too so I am wondering if this would be the jointer to go with, I don't want to buy one of the crappy 2-300€ models and I can't really afford a massive one.
iv had most of the other small models and this is still by far the best small foot print jointer. To answer your question, yes, im still very happy with this machine, well worth the money and have had no issues at all over this course of time.
Hi there, Lovely video and really nice details on set up. Looking forward to seeing more of this content. Also thinking of purchasing that jointer for my workshop. Would indeed be interesting to see how you fair with this. Also if you need help with German, I'd be happy to help. All the best
Hi, thank you for the kind words and subscription 🙏 I am hoping to have a video on how the jointer has performed after a few months usage. Haha I may take you up on the help 😂
It just gets better and better, with my previous small foot print jointers there was always something that bugged me but the Shinko has been an amazing little work horse
Hi. Thank You for nice presentation. I am considering purchase. My only fear is, that fence is attached to piece of plastic. Is it stable enough to support the board? Doesn't it wiggle?
Im not sure what you mean, the fence is attached to what looks like painted black cast iron, in terms of stability, its great iv had no issues what so ever and its been the best fence out of all the small foot print jointers iv had so would definitely recommend. I would even go as far as to say this is currently the best small foot print jointer this side of the world (Eu) that there is to offer
@@woodcraft_cz Thank You. I was assuming it is plastic, based just on how it looks on the video. I have recently lost my Scheppach HMS850 (a really good tool for beginners) due to misuse by another user, and I am searching for a replacement/upgrade. I will probably order this one.
oh you'll love it, other then the bed diameter of the Scheppah the Shinko has it beat on everything else, I had the Scheppah and I hate it as it was so inaccurate. @@JuloMihal
@woodcraft_cz Hi, really glad I found your channel and really like the way you do your videos. Actually a funny story how I found your channel => As I'm just beginning my woodworking journey and am working out of 1/2 of my in-laws 1 car garage, I'm looking for a small form jointer and planer. Scrolling through the FB marketplace, found a listing for the Shinko AH200 jointer. Never before heard of this brand, but loved the spiral/helical cutter head, so started doing more research and that's when I stumbled onto your video. Looking at your video, I'm also guessing that you are the one the listing belongs to as I'm from CZ as well :-D After watching some of your videos, I'm definitely going to get a Shinko jointer and the IGM PS33 planer once available again. I would like to ask you some Q's, how big is the difference between your jointer and the s versions with the cast iron tables as well as the bigger AH260s? In other words, when you were purchasing your jointer, if the AH260s version was available, would you choose that instead? Also do you need one of those large stationary dust extractors or would an industrial shop vac with a cyclone barrel separator suffice?
Haha wow small world, yes that’s my advert as I upgraded to a large format jointer now 😁 no the bigger version (AH260) wasn’t available at the time but if it had been I guess I would of bought it. Neither were the cast iron tables. I did consider upgrading the tables but never really saw the need. You can’t go wrong with the Shinko, for small format jointers I still believe it’s the best one and I can imagine the 260 better still if it fits your space. All the best with your woodworking journey and hezký den 😁
Yes, I most definitely can’t argue with you on the price. It is expensive I feel, but as far as I’m aware I don’t think there is competition in the same size with helical cutters. Price aside the unit is superb! I’ve had two other similar sized units (one smaller, one slightly larger) and by far this is my favourite, the most important features for me is precision and tune ability. This unit has both, structurally it seems sound and adjustments are easy enough as seen on the video. My only logical upgrade next would be, space permitting, a full size unit such as the A3 from felder or Jet, it would however be a great deal more expensive then this unit. So if you don’t make large tables or need to joint large panels I don’t think I could recommend a better jointer of similar properties 🙌🏼
Aluminium but I am considering the steel upgrade, if I had to choose from fresh I would of gone steel but to be fair, the aluminium are just fine so far
Nice video, it seems to me that it is the AH200 version with aluminum tables. At the moment, they offer an AH200S version with steel tables! Were they in the catalog 2 months ago when you bought yours or is it recent?
Oh those weren’t there 2 months ago, looks like they will be arriving in July. I think at the price point the steel series are coming in at I would personally consider a small format stationary machine. Having said that I wonder if they offer an upgrade from the AH200 to the S 🤔
I jut got a quote of €200 to ship the steel version. Free shipping on the aluminum one. I don't think for what I do it would make much difference. Just rust on me!!@@woodcraft_cz
So far so goo, Iv actually had two previous small format jointers and they have all disappointed me in some way, but (excuse the pun) touch wood, this has ticked all the boxes, it’s been great for my workflow. I will be making another video where I use the jointer in a project in the next week or so 🙏
Yeah it’s a lovely addition that’s for sure, I’m trying to find reasons to buy the thicknesser but my dewalt works fine at the moment, I may have to just sell it 😂
Hi nice video lm thinking of getting one. Did the price include delivery l live in the UK and did you have to pay any import duty. Bought a Triton TSPL152 planer but setting it up yesterday has alot of faults which lead me to believe it won't plan with any degree of accuracy which kind of defeats the purpose of it. Gone past the 30 day return period but hoping to return it. You mention in the comments you've had other machines do you have any experience of the Triton. Thanks
Hi Nick, i had this delivered here in the Czech Republic so I didn’t pay duties as it’s in the EU. Yes I had the triton just before this and it was ok but I really wanted a helical head, the fence was ok but not great, this is an improvement but not Felder good. It’s still in my opinion the best small footprint jointer on the market currently however 👍
Hi thanks for the quick response. Thought cz might mean you're in Czech Republic. Bloody brexit. Will have to wait and see if FFX will accept my return. Although the shinko is twice the price of the Triton its 200mm so bigger capacity and the helical cutter. Would you say its worth the extra cost. Thanks
@@nickcrouch5622 for me definitely, the extra width is always handy and the the helical so far has been great, generally I just feel it’s easier to process the stock against the blade with the helical.
Good news, this machine had just arived. And new user manuali is in german and english. In the case, that You need to have it, let me know, I will scan it.
I love it quite simply, for a small foot print jointer it’s the best Iv had and Iv had a few in the past, I wish I could have a full size but due to space I can’t and to my knowledge this is the best option. The only gripe I can sort of mention is more about these jointers on a whole and that the blade guard is annoying. Iv seen state side they they have a tear drop type guard that opens up when stock is passed through. Iv even seen it on a small foot print machine by “Rikon” I think but that’s not an option for use guys in the EU I believe. So to answer, it’s great, I would only change it if I got a large machine. As for total length I believe it’s 130 fully opened but I’d need to double check 🤔
@@123kkkable 1.1 or 1.2m I think 🤔 can’t fully recall. One thing though is clamp/bolt it down if you want it for longer pieces, due to its size and weight, it needs to be secured to avoid balance issues
