Hey gang,
You know the deal by now - I work for a company that buys and sells comics books (www.sellmycomicbooks.com) and it's my job to grade the issues we sell as "raw singles" on eBay (seller name: dotcomcomics).
I never have any idea what is in any box I’m given to grade. Thus, I invite you to look over my shoulder as I make the discovery of what my day will entail. It’s always a good time as we re-discover some great old comic books and recount stories about all the amazing worlds that were!

Hi Duke, Wellcome back. Finally!! It was a lonely time without your videos. Battle Beyond the Stars was not that bad. It was a typical Roger Corman movie with a great James Horner Soundtrack. Another nice video. Good luck with the 12 Battlestar Galactica no. 1.I recently watched another video from a guy who bought a box with old comics and he also had like 10 pieces of Galactica no. 1 in it. Seems this book was a speculation object back in the days.

Battle Beyond may well be better than I'm giving it credit for. (I do still want to see Corman's Fantastic Four!). I guess if I had seen it back in the day I might have a better impression of it. After all, most of the effects in the Christopher Reeve Superman movies looks dated today, but they don't bother me at all today because, when I was 10 years old, those movie totally made me believe a man could fly. Most of the actors were fine in Battle, they just had some clunky dialog and (in retrospect) cheap effect to work around. Honestly, I didn't notice the soundtrack (I rarely do - like lettering and coloring in comics, music just blends in for me and I only really notice it when it's bad enough to pull be out of the experience). I'll have to go back and re-watch the movie, just to re-listen! I actually kicked all but one of those Battlestars to the retail store dollar bins. Once I opened the bags I noticed there was moisture warping at the bottom and/or top of most of them, rendering them in the 6.5 to 7.0 range for grades. Our recent sales of that book have run from $10-12 for 8.0s and 8.5s, and even 9.0. So, I figured it was not worth the time and labor costs of putting them through to auction as raw singles. I try not to put anything through that I expect to sell for less than the minimum $8.40 shipping cost. You are correct about the volume of books.Over the past 3.5 years I've been working for SMCB, every time I have seen Battlestar #1 by itself, (i.e. when not included in a run of issues from the title), it's been in bundles of, like, 8 to 12. My speculation is that the book was not so much heavily speculated as just poorly distributed. The comic hit newsstands Dec. 12, 1978, by which time the tv series was halfway though its first season, having dropped precipitously in the ratings after CBS counter-programed against the ABC show by moving ALL IN THE FAMILY in direct competition to it. So, my theory is that much of the print run never made it our of distributor warehouses, as they may have have decided the book wasn't worth racking, as it probably wouldn't sell. I think what we get today are largely dumps of the series that got reported to Marvel as unsold, but then were never destroyed as they should have been, and instead got sold out the back door over the years, or else in giant inventory firesales as various regional distributors went belly up, or got merged into other corporate acquisitions.

Also rumour has it that the new legion of superhero’s movie will be titled “ super girl and the legion of superhero’s” no one cares about superboy anymore I guess

That's possible. Although it seems odd that Bendis would ruin the Jon-El character by insisting on aging him up so he could be added to his Legion roster, then drop the character entirely from the cartoon. What's more likely is that he can't use Superboy in the cartoon for legal reasons. The Siegel family now owns a piece of Superman and direct derivations, such as Superboy. You'll note that in the comics where it used to say simply, "created by Siegel & Shuster," it now also says, "by special arrangement with the Siegel family." Of course, when I say "owns a piece," I'm not privy to DC's actual contractual, court-decided obligation to the Siegel Estate (I say estate rather than family as I'm not certain Jerry has any living decedents - I think the daughter died and I'm not sure she had any kids). Anyway, it's possible DC/Warner is pulling a Super Friends, where they avoiding paying Tony Isabella any royalties on Black Lightning by changing the character to the totally new and original Black Vulcan. So, Bendis may well have wanted to use Superboy in his cartoon, but TPTB said, "Nope, that's cost us too much. You can have Super-Monkey." And Bedis was all, "Nah, how about Supergirl." And TPTB said, "Fine. Whatever."
