Retired nurse here. Heather had the “moon face” associated with steroids. Steroids are common treatment for Crohn’s disease. Sepsis (massive infection, usually blood borne)can happen within hours.

Hi Scott I was an EMT/Paramedic from 1993-2010. Children's bodies can compensate for shock a much longer duration than adult's bodies do. However children crash after their ability to compensate drops off rapidly. Adult signs and symptoms from shock decline gradually. That's probably why she told the paramedics she felt bad a little. Her body was compensating and then couldn't anymore and crashed from shock suddenly without warning. I tried to explain it in layman's terms. I hope this helps folks understand.

Yes. She had a congenital disorder, an intestinal blockage, that went undiagnosed and misdiagnosed for years. She went to Kaiser in San Diego and they failed to properly diagnose her. By the time she was sick (in the AM that led to her death) her body was on its last end. The vomiting, the blue lips, the pains. She died of sepsis due to the burst of her intestines. She could have been diagnosed and saved. @@gerondajenkins6947

Well with my wife and it turned out she had a staghorn kidney stone and septus in her blood started off on Monday. Then Friday morning she was practically I would say incoherent or acting unlike her. She was trying to put a sock on your head I called the ambulance immediately at 5 in the morning . What I thought was the flu cuz she did have temperature but wasn't really hungry for 4 days. This was during the pandemic but she did not have covid-19 test it and they tested in the hospital but she had septus in her blood. From the staghorn kidney stone which took two operations to remove. As soon as they got to the hospital they started multiple antibiotics directly in her neck.. and thank the Lord she's with me today two years later..

How weird that Henry Winkler would confuse Heather's story with Judith Barsi or be unsure of how Heather died, especially if he was a pallbearer and she appeared in his show you would assume he knew her? Maybe he knew Judith Barsi, too? Poor little girl, she suffered greatly.

It did seem rather strange that Henry would come out so blatantly and accuse her father of abusing her and being responsible for her death. The whole thing was extremely bizarre and I would love to watch the entire interview and get a hit on whether or not Henry was acting oddly. I mean my goodness he has a few dollars and the father could have slammed him with a slander and libel suit and most certainly won. This is what makes me question if there was some truth to it. As someone mentioned the odds of his not knowing or confusing a little girl when he worked with her and was the pallbearer for her funeral is also unlikely. It's so sad how quickly smoke screens we're used when it came to child actors. I certainly hope things like this are no longer continuing.

@QouteTheRavenNevermore that poor little girl went into cardiac arrest twice. The second time was fatal, post surgery. She had Congenital Stenosis (narrowing) of the intestine. Which made all her poop blocked up in her intestine which then caused the ruptured intestine and released all that poison into her body. The doctor that figured it out had said if she had been diagnosed correctly after her contracting giardiasis after drinking well water, she would be still here. A few years ago, Heather's mother and uncle decided to auction off a few of her belongings because as they put it, the memories meant more to them than her belongings did. I purchased Heather's script from the Happy Days episode "Nervous Romance" (1983). It came in a shadow box with a couple pictures of Heather wearing a shirt that said "Fonzie's Li'l Gal". Like you, I believe that Henry Winkler confused Heather with Judith Barsi, who died a few months after Heather at age 10. Judith's father was extremely abusive to her, and ended up shooting her and her mother, and then setting the house on fire before shooting himself.

I have to say though, that poor little girl didn't seen to get much good medical care. Of course I'm a mama bear when it comes to my own daughter, but it seems like more care should have been given. I can't help but compare this to Lisa Marie Presley's passing with the obstructed bowels. Now, Lisa did not heed the warnings her body was sending and her demise didn't have to happen. But that's an adult making her own decisions, not a little girl whose parents had that responsibility.

That’s why her mother sued them.As someone who also had a lawsuit for a different reason but with similar tests in 1985 ,I know that they should have found the problem. Judith Barsi died just months apart from Heather. Judith was known to pull her eye lashes out or the cat whiskers out due to her abuse before she was murdered after Jaws 4. I'm not saying Heather wasn't abused because I don't know but I think Henry definitely got the 2 mixed up because he pretty much directly quoted Judith's exact actions. I've never heard of Heather doing things to herself like that. She was clearly sick and on steroids during Poltergeist 3. Henry has met hundreds of child stars so i can see why he got them mixed up.

Since my children have long been adults and my grandchildren are in college now, I don't know if school plays or even Halloween is even a big deal anymore! Anyway, thank you Scott for a very sweet story. I was a young mother when Heather died and I remember being shocked and saddened at one so young dying. RIP sweet girl.

I was thinking that Henry Winkler was mixing up Heather O’Rourke with Judith Barsi. Both were beautiful little blond girls that were wonderful actresses. Loved watching the Poltergeist series as a kid. I might just see if I can locate one streaming to watch tonight. Great video. That photo and costume is amazing thank you for sharing it with us. Heather’s mom did an amazing job on that costume. It’s gorgeous and in amazing condition to be so old.

Sepsis happens VERY quickly in the body. My brother was fine on Sunday, January 31, 2016 and he was dead by 12:08 am on Wednesday, February 3, 2016, from the exact same thing Heather died from. So, it is an agonizing, slow process, yet quick compared to a disease such as cancer. So sad all around.

@rachelsill79 It’s not only giving a ballpark figure for how long they think the person has to live, but in effect, it also communicates doctors dont believe they’re going to pull through this, or it’s impossible to… and it’s better to know that, bc it’s not so much abt the need to go pick out a casket & songs for the funeral, but that the sick person has very limited time left… this, the phrase is moreso abt understanding the situation is terminal & if there’s loved ones that need to know or far-flung family that need to travel, or who may want to see the person before they die/lose consciousness or to be by their side, then they need to hurry or anticipate a funeral. There may also be religious rites that one has to organize before/around the time of death, depending on one’s beliefs. There also the fact ppl usually have to consider life’s other responsibilities for the relevant future- things like travel/lodging, child care, job responsibilities, animals, & all sorts of family matters that usually surface… Of course, as soon as possible, the persons family/loved one does need to start navigating how to carry out their end of life/funerary wishes, & contact a funeral home or similar service provider in order to inform them that their services will be needed in near future- it all depends on how old a person is, what their health history is, whether cause of illness is known or autopsy is needed/req’d, etc… bc funeral directors & ppl in that field need to be hired for transport at minimum… whether it’s a traditional funeral/burial, cremation, no funeral service, or something more unique, like home funeral… bc only licensed service providers can handle/transport a dead body, and it preferable to call as soon as possible to bring their attn to the situation & tell hospital who’s handling those things. So it’s a euphemism, but has a loaded meaning as well as literal one… just another reason having arrangements already set up & planned out makes it easier for the family bc one wants to be with their loved one & trying to fake care of themselves as well… the last thing u want to be doing is dealing w/ other ppl in family & navigating all the other responsibilities. But saying “ you’ve got 24 hrs to make arrangements” is a figure of speech as well, bc it’s used to communicate that the person is not going to improve- they’re dying- and what the general or expected length of time is before all their bodily systems will prob shut down- one by one… &/or for all the side effects & symptoms of something like sepsis- a blood infection- to result in the collapse/shut down of a system or organ critical for life. Since someone will go downhill as the organs/systems start shutting down, then they’ll likely lose consciousness well before that point of time; plus, the doctors will also likely be loading them up with more & more morphine (for pain & comfort care), which will also have an affect on the person’s lucidity, awareness, & ability to communicate, etc… and as nurses track changes in vital signs, then the med. staff can generally estimate the amnt of time & which system will fail next or what is going on w/ the person inside based on the monitoring they’re doing. It’s better to know the person isn’t going to pull through than not be able to support & love them the way you want & tell ppl that would want to be by their side as well. Anyways. Just FYI.

Gosh poor baby😢. I have Crohn’s disease. I was diagnosed in high school but had symptoms around age 13. I’ve had 17 surgeries and 6 painful bowl obstructions. Each one requiring emergency surgery. I lived on steroids for years. Wonder drug, but side effects are horrible. I now take Stelara and have been symptom free for 5 years. I can’t imagine the pain she had to endure being so young. My heart breaks for her.

I have Crohn’s Disease. It can be agonizing. I didn’t develop it until an adult and I can’t imagine a child having to deal with it. I hope she tried to keep it to herself. I can’t imagine how her mother could sew such a lovely costume for her if she knew about the illness and didn’t care enough about her daughter to deal with it. Any “bowel” disease is very embarrassing and the victims don’t like to talk about it because frankly, it’s gross. We need more education in this country about any form of gastrointestinal illness.

Confused as to what you mean by 'I hope she tried to keep it to herself'. Keep what to herself? The fact that she had Crohns disease? Like she should be ashamed of it? Not sure what you mean or why you hope she kept it to herself as though it was something to be secretive about.
@tammymcc-n7652
@tammymcc-n7652 11 месяцев назад
@@60toodles I understand your confusion. I didn’t word it right. What I meant was I hope she wasn’t telling her parents and them ignoring her concerns and pain. I meant I hope they didn’t ignore her symptoms. From my personal experience, it’s more likely, out of fear and embarrassment , she kept a lot of what was happening to her body, she didn’t disclose. Does that make sense? Most of my close friends and family don’t know the extent of my suffering. I’ve tried to discuss it, but when I talk about bloody diarrhea and wearing diapers they are obviously not comfortable talking about it. I hope that makes more sense.

@@coreym162 ... I've had IBS or so I've been told by doctor's in the past. So would I know myself if it's IBS or Crohn's Disease? What are the symptoms of Crohn's compared to IBS? And yes, they didn't know much about IBS back in the day like they do now,. My parents always thought I was wanting to get out of school because I used my stomach as an excuse to do so often never mind it really gave me a fit most days especially when I drank milk and cheese and other foods that wreaked havoc on my intestines (horrendous cramps and spasms). Henry was clearly mixing up the two girls. The year before Judith died, she starred in a movie of the week that Henry produced. So, he personally knew both girls and endured the tragedy of those 2 deaths that same year (Judith died 6 months after Heather died)----not to mention that he also had an 10-year-old daughter at the time. So, it makes sense that when asked about Heather nearly 2 decades later, he would mix up the details surrounding their deaths.
