JG is one of the best values in boots. Their boots are unapologetically South African in their style. I can say that their boot can take a beating. Moderate break in. The lug soles are very hard, lasts a long time but no shock absorption
They said they started using a softer compound for the soles recently. I don't have a pair of jim greens yet, so I'm curious are you talking about the soles on the numzaan, or a slightly older pair of boots before they made the soles softer?
@@sorrywrongnumber5280 Razorbacks older, the ranger boots are a softer compound. Not sure if the AR8 will be using the old compound. If you are looking for a solid boot a a good price seriously look at JG. They are a bit wide. But I find that a plus most days. Razorbacks top down view look a bit duckish, the Rangers look normal.
I just bought a pair from Amazon Prime Day sale. A bargain in comparison to the daily retail price. Jim Green boots also get discounted for Black Friday.
I don't know if I am breaking in the boots; or if the boots are breaking in my feet. A lot of hard leather. Especially around the heel. The ASHM last is not as wide as the STC last. Yet, the boot is still a wide fit with room for extra socks.
All leather boot for 250 bucks seems like a very good deal to me. You know what it looks like to me ? An „adventurer boot“. Like something Indiana Jones or a similar character would wear. Not too military or tactical looking, but rugged and solid. Would love have an 8 inch version of this, like the Red Wing Harvester.
Yeah! They're great. I bought a pair recently and I wore them to an academic conference in NYC and they worked great with my outfits and as a walking boot to wear around NYC, though I probably should have broken them in a bit more before going. That leather midsole is beefy.
I own the Numzaans in the natural veg re-tan. They are tanks and took a few weeks to break in. I absolutely love them and they are some of my best rotation boots! Wear the right type of socks, and you shouldn’t have any issues long term.
@@jonathanlee4166 I mean just your preferred type of socks, whether they are wool, cotton or a blend of other materials. Whatever is comfortable for your fit and feel.
Great, I got your approval. If these boots impress you, then they must be really good! Lol. Thanks for your opinions and the channel. You make boot hunting so much easier.
Never heard Teik say he was going to use a heat gun on a pair of shoes...lol I like Green's materials / quality. I do not care for the last shapes. If you like the last the value is outstanding. thanks for the sharing.
Your advice on Jim green boots has helped me immensely! Currently enjoying my vellies and buffalo African rangers. I keep joking that they need to stop coming up with so many nice looking boots , at least till I can save more money. Eventually most of my adventuring boots may end up being Jim greens
Absolutely love mine…I bought both Natural & Chestnut….one of my more versatile boots….office and casual wear no problem. Love the aesthetics because they look like nothing else. Very smart looking boot.
Aggressive break-in is easy. Fill the boots with water. Let them sit until they leak from all the seams. Drain the boots, put on thick wool socks and wear them till dry. Repeat as needed.
Nice, I've got a pair of Razorbacks that are maybe a couple of years old and serve as my dung-kickers, love them. This pair seems to fix just about every complaint I have (use of synthetics in construction, poor insole) but at this point I've put my razorbacks through so much abuse I'd feel bad putting them away for the newest, shiniest thing. After the brutal break-in, they feel like... a well-worn pair of boots, the wide JG last fits my feet extremely well.
I just purchased a pair in Natural color. I have worn them for about a week. I own a few brands of boots and for the price I think these are absolutely amazing. Thanks for your review and getting me to spend more money on boots!
They also come in a full combat lug option, with slightly softer soles than the regular. Possibly not available everywhere. Mine are identical to yours, and after break-in they are phenomenal. Love them.
I loved the idea of this boot but when I actually got it the last just wasn't for me. Compared to the vellie and ranger the Numzaan just didn't allow for my toes to stretch 😕
They look amazingly sturdy although I think they are going to be a bugger to break in. When I get a stiff boot like that (such as my Army boots when issued), I tend to soak them overnight & then wear them on a hike for a couple of days. Works wonders!
Love Jim Greens! Btw what model of RM Williams jeans are you wearing? I'm looking for a pair of lightweight beige chinos/jeans and those look nice and lightweight
Nice review! I have several pairs of Jim Green boots - Stockman Chelseas, Baobab lace-ups, and their Razorbacks. The Stockman's and Razorbacks are in the wider last and I love then as someone with a wide foot and several poorly-healed broken toes. They do look a little "clown shoe" like but since I can wear them without issue, I don't care. ;) The Baobab's initially were painful being the narrower last, and I sized up a half size, but broke in nicely after a few days of wearing them. I'd buy these in a heartbeat if I could get them in the wider STC last as on the Stockman's and Razorback's.
Jim green offers custom boots and I believe you can have them make it on a different last. Even if you don't see an option on the website, I believe you can message them and request it. The custom boots are a little more expensive, but still more affordable than almost any other company
@@sorrywrongnumber5280 I've strongly considered doing that! But, at the moment, truck repairs and maintenance are sucking down all my surplus cash... :(
@devildog5354 you know what i think it is - it's the thing where jim green boots have that wide toe box that looks clownish from the top, but actually it doesn't look that bad at an angle - because really no one but yourself will see it directly from above.
I've had a pair since January, break-in has really been slow. The back of the tow caps dug into the top of my foot for quite a while. It's fine now, but i still have a bunch of miles before I'd say they are done.
I just fluked a pair of unworn Numzaan on eBay for AUD $215. I will have to stop watching you, Teik. My boot addiction is getting worse. I only have two feet and not enough time to wear all my boots.😂😂😂
I absolutely love my Barefoot African Ranger. These Numzaan boots are good looking, but I don't think my feet would like them. I'm digging the zero drop last, no shank and no toe stiffener on the Rangers. I recently saw a video on a custom Stockman in the zero drop last and it loos way more natural than the Ranger and now I want one, lol. Anyway, good review as always, I enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.
I was hoping you would review these boots. I brought a pair of baobab boots. I love them but they have been a tough break in, but I feel it’s part of the journey with a pair of boots.
I've looked at Jim Green boots a time or two, but nothing really caught my attention other than one of the hiking boots. However, I really like this one...wish it wasn't cap-toe, but I may pull-the-trigger on a purchase in the coming months. Looking forward to your full review once you're had some time to break 'em in. Cheers.
I find this to be their most handsome boot. My hesitations to purchase are 1) the midsole looks too stiff. I would get custom and exclude this piece, to give more flexibility and 2) I don't like the low profile toebox and nervous about the width, being a wide footed person. Last little detail is no pull tab, which I understand was intentional.
I have a couple of pair of Thursday Captain and I'm happy with them. I have Numzaan in Walnut and the construction and materials are far stronger. Look at the price difference and boot style. Captains are good for office, casual or bushwalking whereas Numzaans are not office style. I think Jim Green Numzaan will give PNW style boots in a similar price range some strong competition I would also add that they are a very ethical company and treat their workers very well.
I think this video was filmed a little while ago and the price went up just a little bit since then. When I looked at the website back in March, it said the price will be going up a little bit in April. Very nice of them to give a heads up. I think it's around $280 now but I could be wrong
Are those sized correctly for you? I find them to be true to US brannock as per the website, not uk sized. This might be the first time I’ve seen a sizing discrepancy in any of your videos. Surprised you got those on, but they are extra wide. Thanks!
I got them UK sized. They size their US site differently. One of the cleverest things to do for an international brand is to provide your sizing per market.
Hi Tek, I'm considering a pair of these. I have quite high arches and work on my feet most of the day so need good arch support underneath my foot. How did the arch support feel and what other boots would the arch feel comparable to? Cheers
@Bootlosophy ok cheers, considering the price I think I'll get a pair. Just one last question confirming size. The only boots i have to compare are Nicks in 9.5E. This should equate to 8.5 in Jim Greens. Just to confirm this, are the Nicks you own your usual 8.5 size? Cheers
Have you got any sizing advice? It'll be my first pair of "real" boots and I've only ever tried on a pair of Iron Rangers in the store worked out I'm a US10 in that model. Would you say I'd be pretty much the same size in the Numzaans?
@@Bootlosophy Thanks for point out that they sell in US & UK, it made me double check the website. Turns out the website was selling in UK, not US like I thought. I assume in this, if it would've been a US10.5, I would instead buy a UK9.5 without any issue, right?
