🐾Unboxing LIVE SNAILS from EBAY! | Otala Lactea/Milk Snail Pet Snail UNBOXING! This is one of the few times that I have ordered live animals online, and I must say, I was impressed! The Milk Snails all arrived alive, and I don't think that you guys can blame me for missing those extra two snails the first time around, they were UNDER THE MOSS! That and the fact that I was only expecting 5, haha!🐾

Since I didn't clarify in the video- I figured I'd leave this comment here to make sure that no one is confused... I only ordered 5 snails, the seller sent 7 because he said that "some *may* perish during transit", however, my package arrived early, and so thankfully ALL of the snails arrived quick and healthy! As you guys can tell in the video, once I took out the 5 snails on top, you couldn't even tell that there were 2 MORE IN THE CUP! They were blending in to the moss, but luckily they were found only a few minutes after the other snails were setup, and they ended up being perfectly alive as well! All is well in snail world! 🐌 Do you have a pet snail (aquatic or terrestrial)?

1. Snails make a film around the entrance of there shell when they go to hibernate or in poor conditions they can live up to 6 month without food or water inside there shell 2. To wake up milk snails simply remove the film and run them under room temperature water then place them on there tank and mist it with water they should wake up within 10-30 minutes 3. Do NOT put anything hard in there tank they can and will break there shells it better to be safe than sorry 4. Unless your snail retracts deep into there shell where you can't really see them and they smell bad there likely dead otherwise give them sometime to come back out
@itzalexiss_life9675
@itzalexiss_life9675 3 года назад
This is all true accept snails can actually live 8 months, but likely hood is if they go without food this long, they'll eat each other's shell and that's not good for the other animals, the hard things however in the tank, is half and half as they'll possibly turn around whilst falling and land on their foot, and as long as its only the front of the snails shell that breaks, they'll be fine as it will just grow back. But then you'd have to put them in alchohol if it's in the middle.
@cheaminks
@cheaminks 3 года назад
You probably shouldn't remove the film as they put energy into making it, they usually do that as a response to when the conditions aren't correct and wake up by themselves when you correct the conditions (temp,humidity)

Just an FYI the reason land snails are hard to find in the states is because it’s actually illegal to ship any type of snails over state lines.

I just got a milk snail about 4 days ago and the first day he was delivered i took the film off and rinsed him under warm water and 8 hours later he woke up and was crawling around the tank. He ended up staying in a single spot for the next 3 days and he is still there now. He has not touched his food or water because it looks the same. I switched food out for fresh carrots now but i hope the snail wakes up again and nothings wrong. Anyone know why he is not moving? it has been 3 days since he moved last.
@CGpets101
@CGpets101 3 года назад
They are very weird! Sometimes they do not move for weeks, and then decide to wake up and eat, haha. Just make sure they are at least at room temperature, and are humid enough!
@apdroidgeek1737
@apdroidgeek1737 3 года назад
Snails are mollusks they came from originally from the ocean, they need their environment to be very humid for them to be active if the environment is not in favor for them they will seal their opening to keep themselves at equilibrium or to keep bodily fluids.

@apdroidgeek1737

They do, they're easy to care for and fun to watch specially when theyre eating, you cant pet them but you can handle them, their feel weird but nice at the same time, wild caught snail most likely carry parasite so you should wash before and after handling them, captive bred not so likely but still wash your hands before and after, note that the chances of getting meningitis is just as much as getting a disease from your dog, just dont eat snail/slug alive.

Hi Curtis! I love your vids! Im just curious.. I ordered a milk snail off ebay, and how often should I clean out its tank fully? Ive read once every month and wipe the grime off every week many times, and then. someone said every week.. Any advice?
@spitachio
@spitachio 3 года назад
I set mine up with a layer of dirt from my yard and a layer of substrate from the pet store. Every 2 weeks or so I scrap the top layer and turn it over. If you add rolly-pollys and earthworms, they help keep it clean. Then I just wipe the sides down and keep a mesh cover on top for good ventilation. I read that snails get used to the substrate and changing it all out at once can shock them. I've never had issues with mold or smell. I also plant catgrass and other small plants and add eggshell and dried leaves to the tank so it's like its own little fertile ecosystem
@apdroidgeek1737
@apdroidgeek1737 3 года назад
Dont change it, or atleast leave some dirt, snails like us need good bacteria for digestion, they also need live bacteria to help clean their environment, its like keeping a fish, its the nitrogen cycle.
