I want these, but so damn expensive. Definitely sick of 600ex’s slowing down for overheat protection at event receptions!! (And charging a million AA batteries for flash and packs)
When tested with MG8000 Extreme/MG80, QFlash T2 & 60CT-4 with ATG/Quantum Turbo Battery Guess what? The EL-1 overheat & shutdown during the 1/1 power tests & in actual field tests. Try the test: 1. EL-1 set 1/1 (full power) @ 28mm 2. Attaches ATG/Godox/Nissin or Quantum Turbo Battery to the flash 3. As soon as the ready light comes on, press the shutter or test button 4. Better hope your EL-1 flash doesn't overheat, shutdown & meltdown 5. Count & write down the number. Send it in to Canon and they will not be happy during 1 year. Notes: Although the Quantum Qflash T2 & Metz 60CT-4 need external power and no longer being made. They have more power & they can keep on shooting to the very extreme
Good to know. I would imagine Canon would say the Turbo battery is not designed for the EL1 and that is why it can over heat. I have used the EL1s in continuous rapid secession with the CPE4 battery pack without any overheating or shut down.
@@bobanddawndavis If a claimed pro speedlite/speedlight that CAN NOT take ATG/Godox/Bolt/Flaspoint/Nissin/Quantum battery pack, then in many pros eyes is not a professional flash. "Canon would say the Turbo Battery is not designed.." then don't have the HV Port.
@@bobanddawndavis All Canon, Nikon, Sony flash manuals will say repeat firing the flash will harm the speedlite (Canon)/speedlight (Nikon). This clearly mean to me and pros that these flashes are not made for the working pros. When you have time try with your external battery pack @ 28mm with 1/1 power Fire the flash off as soon as it's ready. Record the amount of flashes. When it overheat & shutdown & meltdown, send it back to Canon And reply with your disappointment of their $1,200.00 light
Using the EL-1 on the R5, is there a way that the modeling light can be used in darker event photography like an AF assist beam where it's on to focus (or AF-ON button) then flashes when I snap the photo?
There are two answers. The focus assist beam will activate to assist with low light focus. Yes, you can activate the EL-1 modeling light to be used as a focus assist, but you have to activate it. At this time there is not a function to have the modeling light act as the focus assist.
The assist beam won't work on the R5 so would it be double tap the half shutter to do modeling light, get focus and snap the frame? Will modeling light turn off after shot or it's all manual turning on and off? I can't wait to get mine!
@@jive_reef The focus assist beam is on the camera body. Or use the double-tap method to activate the modeling light. I've not encountered many instances where I've needed the focus-assist.
Hello, for the runtime, and recycle time, try 600 ex rt with Godox 960 power bank... its instantaneous. We can find 600 ex on after market for 250 bucks. EL 1 is so much overpriced...
