What an incredible pen, it ticks al the amazing finishing boxes: urushi, raden and a roller clip. And that for a pen that is priced way below other urushi raden pens.

This pen is breathtaking! The writing portion really showed off how well tuned the nib is. I adore a Medium that writes a bit more narrow but wet like this beauty. P.s I laughed when you mentioned a "squirrel" moment. My husband always jokes that I have "A.D.O.S" aka "Attention deficit OoOoo SHINY".

From personal experience with Urushi pens, albeit by another manufacturer, I know they look much better in person than they appear on You Tube or in photos. Accordingly, I imagine this one is truly striking in person. I hope I get to find out! Another thing about Urushi is that it reportedly takes on even more depth and richness with use. I have not owned mine long enough to be able to confirm this, but I wouldn't be surprised. Most lacquers do. I can confirm that the feel of the lacquer is unique in the fountain pen realm--it is soft, smooth and warm. My Urushi pen is from the other company that is trying to break into the US market by introducing Urushi pens at relatively low prices. The one I bought cost $200 because I got it in what they call a prototype sale. That is, it has a minute imperfection so they sold it at half price. That's the only way I could afford it--and that is without raden. Perhaps Tianzi has similar sales for consumers like us.

James, tank you for the video. I think the pen is spectacular. The workmanship looks to be superb. I'm with you when it comes to nibs; many steel nibs work fine for me. From what I can see gold nibs seem to need less attention out of the box. The price seems to be very reasonable for the workmanship. Thank you again for showcasing the pen.

Love me some Urushi. Count me in 😎 I think I agree with you about gold vs. steel nibs. I don't have many gold nibs, but the only one that has really excited me is my medium Pilot nib on a Custom 74. It's just really bouncy and smooth.

What a lovely pen! It's nice to see a manufacturer offering a less expensive urushi lacquer pen but still making it with all historic techniques rather the combination with a laminated coating that just has a tiny bit of real lacquer work. Tianzi looks to be making a strong statement in the luxury market. Thanks to you James for doing such good reviews of pens that we might not see reviewed elsewhere.
