The more and more I watch these type of videos from fisherman in the Midwest and back East, the more I come to think that most of these guys wouldn’t make it out here in Cali, as far as Sportfishing. The reason you put electrical tape it to stop any type of line spin on the spool. Most of us even tie mono to the spool with electrical tape. Going cheap is the complete opposite of what u want when you’re Sportfishing on the sport boats out of so cal. Always make sure u buy quality stuff. Also, that electrical tape is actually really hard to get off after a long time, especially when u do about 3 complete revolutions of it. It creates a cushion for the line to bite into, especially braid. We primarily use braid for 90% of what we do. Dropper loop fishing on the bottom, fishing in the kelp for calicos, yellowtail, Bonita, u need that line to be able to cut right through the kelp. In that situation many guys use 80lb or 65lb braid. Something that’s very corse as well. Like a 4 carrier/strand braid. One more note. We use a knot called the San Diego knot. It’s incredibly strong. There’s also a version called the double San Diego knot. Basically you’re just doubling the line before you start the knot. Just adding my two cents, over here we have no room for failure. Especially on big fish.

Justin! Don’t defend your choices! Lots of ways to fill a reel and they all work. I personally have braid on every reel I own. Then add the floro leader of choice. Some may ask why? Braid lasts for years. Much more sensitive and much stronger and zero stretch for better hook sets and smaller diameter than mono or floro equals more line on the reel. I can change my leader after every outing if I want too. I can change leader size in less than a minute to match conditions. A 200 yard spoil of Tatsu floro will last me all year. There is a reason all of the PRO’s use braid and it’s not because they are paid to use it.

I've been using the Alberto Knot as well as the Uni to Uni, interchangeably. Not sure which I like best but both seem to work. Have switched to Sunline Assassin since you recommended it and I'm really happy. Seems quite abrasion resistant and it provides some great stealth. As always your advice is spot on and I've learned to really trust your direction. Let's go catch some donkeys and keep up the drive to 100k!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use $2 mono backing on all my reels so I dont have to waste my expensive line. You arent doing it wrong. Youre landing fish on a regular basis, keep doing what you do!

You need to suggest the Lew's super duty 300. It weights alot less than the tranx and i can cast it further than my tranx. I've got them both. I would order both of them and pick one to send back. The Lew's also has a clicking drag. Love it! I've also had it over a year and it still performs as it did new
