As a papercrafter, I have worked with double sided adhesive tape a lot. The one things you need to do before pulling back the release paper is to very firmly rub on it all over with your hand or a ruler to make sure that the adhesive is on the paper (or canvas) and not to the release paper. Pulling the paper up before doing that will result in those bubbles and rivers

Editing to add: I’ve worked on DSA kits from a few other companies before and never had this kind of issue even when peeling back the cover as I did in this video. The occasional bubble or river, sure, but not dozens, which is why I suspect the packaging (the way it was rolled, almost definitely) is the culprit here. Thank you for sharing advice from your experience! I really appreciate it. That makes sense - I knew about rubbing the corner before pulling back but hadn’t thought about doing the same to the whole thing. To be honest, given that the bubbles and rivers (and a cut in the cover) were visible and so prominent on the cover and the back of the canvas before I peeled back the cover, I don’t know that it would have helped in those instances, but it couldn’t have hurt to try, I’m sure. I’ll keep that in mind for future DSA kits I might order ☺️ Thank you again!

I appreciate that you always are so positive and give companies the benefit of the doubt. Sounds like they have a few things to work out but the rendering did seem really nice. Great unboxing!

Hi Katie! I just checked their website while watching this video just now and I am pleased to find out and let you know that they now have and do poured glue! So you might could get in touch with them again and find out if there's any way that you can maybe swap out for poured glue canvases of the ones you purchased since there were those problems with the bubbles and rivers in the double-sided adhesive. I definitely would only buy poured glue canvases since I've heard about all of the issues with double sided adhesive. I'm sorry you had to go through that with these beautiful paintings! I just wanted to let you know though that they ARE now using poured glue instead! 😊💜💎

Katie, I ordered a couple of canvases from this company several months ago and they were both poured glue so I’m surprised you couldn’t get yours in poured glue. Several symbols were blurry, but they must have upgraded because your symbols look clear. Hope you get the rivers out, but if you don’t, they have great customer service. Good luck. 🥰

Hi Katie! I have completed 1 RDP and have one as a current WIP. Those came as poured glue, but I purchased them quite some time ago. I believe they recently began printing their own cavasses here in the US which may be why they have DSA. One thing I noticed as you unboxed these was that they were rolled with the DSA on the inside, I've only seen them rolled with the DSA on the outside, however that way also had bubbling issues. I'm hopeful those spots will come out for you with a simple little (careful) slice of a blade to release the air :)

Thank you so much for the insight, friend! Oooh, you’re totally right - the other DSA kits I’ve worked with have been rolled with the adhesive on the outside, not the inside. I bet that was a culprit in this case, too.

I am working on an 80×90 poured glue Royal Diamond Painting. Rachel Rae had recommended them as they did the custom of her dog Luna. I got one of their last canvases produced in China I guess as she was just about to move to Texas. Maybe the issue is somewhere in the move.

There are 3 pieces of them that I love, but the adhesive is what really scares me (since I never worked on one of those)… so I’m still hopefully waiting.

So I just received my first order from them yesterday and I was also kind of surprised by the double sided adhesive. I checked the website and saw their comment as well. I'm so happy you posted your box opening - it made me feel so much better about my purchase lol I didn't dare to peel back the paper on mine, but I did look at all the drills and they look lovely. I'm excited to work on mine, but not gonna lie - I'm a little scared to work it it since I've never worked on a double sided adhesive kit before. Also - not a fan of the smell, but not a big deal. Please post a post-review! Can't wait to see your finished paintings. I am praying they also get poured glue asap too - I have so many kits I want to get ,but not sure if I will buy any more - depends on how it goes with the kit I currently have.

I don’t do them as often as when I first started diamond painting about 5 years ago but I always replaced the cover with parchment after fixing any bubbles.

I belive the canvas should have been rolled the opposite direction when they rolled it up.. that is why you don't roll a canvas the opposite direction when it's double sided adhesive it's because when you roll it with the image facing in your crunching the tape together. It's the same as with rolling a canvas once drills are on it, you crush the drills together when it's rolled in and can make drills lift and pop off

My 1st 2 customs were from RDP and they were poured glue so this must be new to when they moved all of their operations stateside. My customs were both square and they were both awesome!

I’ve never worked on a DSA before. I know they started manufacturing here in US and that’s why they switched having no approved poured glue here. I think I read they can also still order from poured glue but am not completely sure on that.

For me, I dont want to deal with having to get an exacto knife in order to diamond paint. Thank goodness for DAC and DD.

Double adhesive kits scare the crap out of me. My daughter ordered me a kit unaware of double adhesive. Soooo since a kit I really wanted I guess I’ll be doing my fear. Lol!! I’ve WATCHED quite a few unboxing of double adhesive and the more you showed the more sick to my stomach I became. Good luck with this. Please let us know what happens!! ❤️❤️

Ummmm that is expensive for double-sided adhesive and I agree, they need to list it on the website that it's DSA. Also, usually companies roll it it glue facing out so the rivers don't happen... Hmmm. IDK

I’d forgotten about it until Elizabeth mentioned it here too, but yeah, the DSA kits I’ve worked on in the past have all come rolled DSA-out, so that could have been a culprit here too.

You can get dot stick glue and remove double sided tape then put 3 layers of glue on to make it poured glue there are videos on how

I have several double sided adhesive paintings from places like AliExpress that I just HAD to have. I’m so so nervous about the adhesive. I’ve never worked on one that wasn’t poured glue.

Those are so pretty, but I sure don't know about the double-sided adhesive. I definitely would rather have poured glue, because like you've shown here, there is just a high risk for bubbling and imperfections.

Welcome to the craft! ☺️ I prefer poured glue because it’s generally much more forgiving to work with. You won’t see rivers and bubbles like you do with double-sided adhesive canvases. But I’ve worked with a couple of high-quality DSA kits from other companies before!

I was going to buy a big panel but waited a bit because of the price. I thought they had poured glue. Now that I see it is double-sided adhesive, it's a no for me for now. I'm tired of dealing with rivers... thanks for sharing

They must have upgraded the tool kits since I ordered my custom from them. If you order a custom it's poured glue. I haven't ordered a prepackaged kit from them before though.

I ordered a kit from them in October and it was poured glue? The packaging was not very good as my canvas was wrinkled. The glue was very gooey and the drills kept moving but image came out well! If they get poured glue and package differently I would order from them again.

We have poured glue now 🙂 I stepped away from my old supplier because the quality went down hill and it caused a lot of issues and I was tired of it. So I set up shop in Texas and we have worked out all the kinks! YAY!

I'm doing an 80x90 poured glue square Royal Diamond Painting that says Don't Trade Your Authenticity for Approval based on Rachel Rae's recommendation of the company. It's a square, came hard folded in half so she immediately refunded me half. It's actually a great use of diamond painting...85 colors. One strange thing is the squares can just be plunked in as though they're rounds. Fair amount of gapping with the background colors but you really don't see it. She's just moved to Texas so I'm sure there will be no more folded canvases. One bad thing.. for me... those colors aren't numbered on the canvas or accompanying paper and the printing on the paper is very hard to read. Your paper list looks different.

Although I love the images, I will wait until they get their poured glue. I guess I've been spoiled and although I don't mind paying for legally licensed artwork, I don't want to have to spend time "doctoring" my canvases. Please keep us updated on how it goes.

Is this an new kit?? I've gotten like 5 paintings from them and they were all poured glue...I know they started printing the canvases in house and is no longer using their old supplier, but I did not know they moved to double sided tape...that would keep me from buying from them again. Their kits are already on the pricey side, even for licensed artwork. I just can't justify that kind of cost for double sided tape. I hope they find a poured glue supplier soon.

Royal Diamond Painting isn't really a particularly new company. I ordered my first painting from them over 3 years ago in May 2019. They've had quite a while to work their issues out.

We just shifted from having a supplier in China. I did not like the way they started to half ass everything. So I set up shop here in the US and a lot of things are different. We have poured glue now 🙂

I really don’t understand why, if you pay good money for these two canvases, how can you justify dealing with the canvas problems? I am not trying to be harsh, but I would be a little angry about the issues of the bubbling.

I am sorry, I am really sad to see they went to double sided adhesive! They used to have poured glue and as you said almost any poured glue would be better than this! I know she is trying to get a quality product and kudos to her for that but she has a long ways to go before I will buy from her again.
