I'm the same as you, the M/L size Asian fit fits, but my cheeks/upper jaw is squeezed too much to be comfortable. The XL size is better. I guess I just have a wide lower face.
I got my RG1-X in 2013 and barely ski'd since, but I am now getting back into it. How do you the RG1-X holds up in comparison to the newer RG1-DX range?
If you check out my other video: Unboxing: Ruroc RG1-DX Onyx Asian Fit + Yes for Glasses (Snowboard Helmet Review) I actually compare the two. There were definitely some nice changes with the DX but I wouldn't say they're enough to upgrade your X.
It's helpful to know that you can use those goggles with your glasses. I ski with my glasses on all the time, and my goggles work over them just fine. Good to know they would work with those as well.
@@dinoalfredsilval3881 It really depends on your face shape. I know that doesn't really help but it's not something I can generalize. I find the M/L reg fit squeezes my cheeks/jaw a bit but others with the same measurement might be completely happy with it. I was able to wear the M/L Asian fit for a whole day and felt ok, not as tight a squeeze as the reg fit. The XL/XXL reg fit definitely feels noticeably looser for me.
So as someone who has Cerebral Palsy which unfortunately makes me crash alot how do these handle banging on the helmet? I'm seriously thinking of picking one up
I definitely feel more protected with Ruroc's additional coverage. Having said that, I've not had any bad crashes to really evaluate just how good it is for high impact. I've heard POC safety ratings are the best? Maybe you could compare their foam safety ratings? Good luck! Which one you looking to get?
Thank you! I'm glad you like my review videos and found them helpful! Bomber jacket? Do you mean what I'm wearing in this video? I'm not sure of the exact model name but it's part of the Under Armour RR line. I am also wearing LD West holsters on top of the jacket (link in description).
Great detailed video review. I was looking at the Ronin as well. Subbed because we have the same head size lol. Also you're based in Ontario (Toronto area?)! Liking the details in the description too. Re: The helmet I wish it was easier to take on and off and also look better open faced. I'm looking for an all season helmet, might go with Bern Watts or Sandbox Classic 2 instead. Does the Ruroc get hot in the Summer? Feel free to send me the Ronin that's uncomfortable for you haha jk keep the videos comin' brother.
Also here is info from the ruroc about Asian fit: "Heads come in all different shapes and sizes. Our Asian fit helmet caters for those with a more rounded head, we've moulded a protective EPS that is specifically shaped to fit! On top of this we've increased the depth of the foam on the nose of our Asian fit goggles to give that PERFECT seamless connection between goggles and face ! So yeah, that's right, we've officially thought of everything."
@@charlie996 I wore the Ronin all day today at Blue and whereas I thought the tightness would be an issue, it turned out ok all day. Maybe my head shrunk in the cold? haha I really do like my Bern Watts. I agree with you, without the mask, the helmet doesn't look great. As for getting hot in the summer, I have no idea, I've only worn these helmets for snowboarding. But yeah, the extra padding for the Asian goggles does help with my small nose. I posted a bunch of stories today on my ig if you're bored. haha
Funny the onyx which is bigger has an overall smaller appearance, while the. Ronin which is smaller has a larger appearance, now I'm a caucasian who has bought, tried & returned a reg XL/XXL Gargoyle helmet, cuz the goggles wouldn't snug up to the helmet, cuz of my cheek bones, never would I have thought to try an Asian fit helmet, & Ruroc never offered me to try one for the exchange from the Gargoyle, So I ordered the Atlas 2.0 Mercury, it fits nice but wow does it appear huge on me, Now heres the ironic part. While the Mercury was on route to me, I spotted my favorite from the RG1-DX line, and that's the Spitfire XL/XXL which I saw on ebay for a fraction of the cost, the only difference with it, was it was an Asian fit helmet, I was skeptical to try it, & had informed the seller of my previous problems I had with my goggles, with the Gargoyle reg fit helmet, he inform me that the goggles on the Asian fit helmets, have a little more foam @ the bridge area but they're rounder in shape on the inside, he said look give it a shot & if it doesn't fit send it back, so I bought it, when it arrived & I tried it on, it fit perfectly and so did the goggles, So now Im a little upset with Ruroc cuz they didn't offer me the opportunity to try an Asian fit helmet, and truthfully me being caucasian never thought of it, so now I want to return my Mercury for another RG1-DX helmet, just wish Ruroc didn't stereotype a helmet size, but I also wish they gave me the opportunity to try an Asian fit helmet, before I ordered the Mercury, I just think they should call it an oval shaped helmet, and round shaped helmet, I dont mean to sound crucial, but I actually though Asian fit helmets were smaller so I naturally stayed away from them, but if Ruroc had informed of the differences I definitely would have gave it a try and then I wouldn't have this Mercury which makes my head look huge, hopefully Ruroc will allow me to return it, it's a beautiful helmet and it fits but its huge on my head all the way around it almost comes out to the edge of my shoulders, but at least now I know what works for me & what doesn't, I just hope there's no problem exchanging it, besides I'm only using it to ride my Euc, but I guess Im just a Caucasian with an Asian head. 😆...Lmao!
In my understanding, the Atlas line is meant for motorcycle riding which is probably why it looks huge compared to the RG1-DX line which is marketed for snowboarding/skiing. Then they have their other Motocross line too. Yeah, I agree the "Asian Fit" classification is misleading because as an Asian, it didn't really make a difference for me. I've tried M/L Reg, M/L Asian Fit, and XL/XXL Asian Fit. According to my size, I should be M/L but my favourite so far is the XL/XXL. I wonder if the XL/XXL Reg would fit even better on me than the Asian Fit. Have you tried contacting Ruroc customer service directly about your specific situation? Maybe they can do something for you. Congrats on finding the perfect fit on eBay! That's awesome!
Oh yeah, and someone told me that the Onyx was part of an earlier line of RG1-DX which had a different shape than the original RG1 and the current RG1-DX. This is why it appears narrower and longer. I haven't verified or confirmed that with Ruroc though.
@@fj5 thank for the reply, but as an adage you know there should be a better way to measure ones head, its easy to find your size, but its just as important to finding ones head shape as well. 😇✌
@@fj5 my understanding as well, but like I said Ruroc made no suggestions along those lines to try an Asian fit, with my original exchange, if they did I wouldn't have had a bad experience, if you know Madpack he always sports a Ruroc, snow or street helmet he wears both. The Mercury is a great looking helmet but I do prefer the face fitting form of the RG1-DX Much better. 😁✌
@@jackvolta3489 I think there should be two measurements, one around the forehead and one around the nose/cheekbones... maybe even a third around the jaw. How cool would that be to be able to custom fit your Ruroc. I guess that would be made to order which would cost considerably more.
It's called vitiligo. :) I have a video about it if you're curious. Thanks for watching and commenting! Here's the video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-H8SBiOas2F4.html
Some people love 'em, some people hate 'em. To each their own. :) It's all good. If you can find one that fits really well, you can definitely wear it all day. It really just comes down to personal taste.
