Uhm never used these watercolors but in my experience white doesn’t serve a lot. If you mix white and other color you ll have an opaque version of the color that is not similar at the gouache: it’s just an opaque watercolor that can covered others. That’s why watercolor painter use gauche, ink, marker or the paper to have the pure white and layering the colors to obtain shadows and perspective. No pastel shade in the gouache range, but it’s my experience 🤗
@@alessandrarussoart With good quality pigments , some white watercolors are called Chinese white which is like a gouache because of its high pigment load. Cheaper watercolors have more filler and less pigmentation so you probably just haven’t used professional white watercolor it definitely has a purpose , for tinting or maybe using for highlighting. Gouache is literally an opaque watercolor , the difference is the pigment to binder ratio.
@@avashevlin1758 I use Winsor&Newton and Kuratake watercolor don’t think they are cheap or bad quality maybe are not Sennelier but the work very well. I know Chinese White it’s very beautiful and different to titanium white, but you have to use an large amount to recreate the gouache effect. Studing at Art School my teachers every encouraged us to try new mix but white was used just to add details not to create pastel color that are used as white in watercolor painting: almost not at all. In my opinion gouache isn’t a more pigmentate watercolor, just stay in the middle watercolor and tempera cause it’s covered but you can blend it much more them tempera. But everyone has different opinions and rxperiences so I ll try.
A goofball with a wonderful creative process, stunning artwork and a self-reflective, holistic approach to evaluating. So yes, I do consider your opinion when forming decisions. (: Thank you.
Thank you for the shout out!! Love what you did with them. In the kickstarter it pictures the ocean turquoise as more blue somewhere along the way it changed to more green. The kickstarter Etchr team said same thing to me that the too close to call green will be updated in their second production run. They are not my favorite set ever...but I need more time with them to have a strong opinion.. but they are definitely not a set I turn to and use after having them for a few months. I agree white is not something most watercolor painters use so sort of a waste of a color spot in the set. I do love their watercolor sketchbooks!
This vid was so funny lmao, I thought I had accidentally switched videos when you got on ur computer and went crazy 😂👌 You make such beautiful art too 😍
I think the box Etchr sent yo with all the items in is a promotional thing, and it looks very smart,I have a set of these paints (they were gifted to me by a good friend) and they are really great to work with, the white is really there as a mixing colour, but it is slightly more opaque so can be used for highlights and comes into it's own a bit more on toned or tinted papers.I have several of their sketchbooks and love them, like you I was inspired to get the paints and sketchbook by watching Areleeha's video about them. I think Etchr are trying to offer good quality paints but at a more affordable price.I think they are a liitle above a typical student grade paint. The range of colurs is really well thought out in this set and they have become my new go to paints.Your review of them is really good and really inspiring and your artwork loos amazing and really shows how well these paints lay down on the paper. The two greens are different, one is much warmer and tone the other cooler and this becomes more apparent when mixing with them. I hope you continue to enjoy working with them I know I will.
I enjoy watching you try all the new things! I didn't realize how granulating these paints were until I saw your swatches. The finished piece is lovely 🔥
with white you can make pastel colours 😊 or indeed add highlights, snow, stars or milky effects 😊 it can be very useful the colour white. but it also depends on the artist painting style. for example with landscapes white would be used more than with portraits.😊
Haha, I actually really enjoyed the slightly chaotic unboxing accompanied by your chill commentary... my favourites were the pans refusing to come out with the obligatory self reassurance #youcandothis 💪 oh, and I personally use white a lot for mixing, going over dried layers again to unify them better, for post-lighting up areas and creating less saturated colours - I use them quite similar to gouache or acrylic paints actually. white is always the first colour thats empty for me 😅
I'm so excited for this video! I've been contemplating their other supplies (I've only tried the Perfect Sketchbooks and Every day Sketchbooks) so this video is coming at a good time for my Christmas list!
I was thinking about trying more of their sketchbooks but I wish they wouldn't sell them in bundles, buying 3 sketchbooks for over 100$ and then maybe not enjoying them is a bit of a risk :/
When you mentioned the packaging I was having the exact same thought haha it’s a bit wasteful in a way obviously it’s great for an unboxing though. You can use the white to mix pastel colours :3
Yeah the presentation is super nice but the box came in a bigger box and I don't think all that is necessary for a couple of seconds of joy when opening it. I would have been just as excited to open small box or a big envelope and at the end it's the quality of art supplies that matters :)
@@Kloodwig that is very true, I think this started in the makeup guru section of videos? They got such big PR packages and some of the creators spoke up about the wastefulness of that whole thing but some brands probably still think that, that is what they need to make it 'big' ? I hope I'm making sense and I dont think these brands really intend to do any harm but I think we all appreciate recyable and cute packaging a lot more than just HUGE packaging for essentially 5 things
I love your colour choices for the first piece so much. ❤ OmG, yes, why there are yellow pens? It's the most useless colour for lining or writing bc I can barely see the lines. lol (Haha, that shoe thing... It's a theme that pricey clothes are ugly, isn't it. XD)
Damn I loooooove your art 💕💕 when you ranted at Google I felt it like,,,Google I don’t have a cat y u showing me adverts for cat food ??? Also you mentioned falling out of love with the Hahnemüle paper and I’m currently on the search for a decent hot press - what are your recommendations if you don’t mind sharing?
me gustan mucho tus videos, me gustaría poder ver tal cual como es la manipulación que tienes en tu paleta de colores ya que me gustaría aprender a pintar y mi mayor problema es que no se como llevan a cabo la manipulación de colores en la paleta.
The greens are a similar colour, but the granulation is different, if that matters to peeps. I guess there have been enough people questioning the colour similarity that they're going to change one.
I've spent like 1000 hours watching watercolor reviews in the past week from at least 200 youtubers and literally every. single. video. the person is "Why is there white? I don't understand." - At what point is it okay for companies to dump their entire stock of white and put another color in it's place because it's become almost meme worthy at this point, lol. Watercolor artists that want white use gouache! Maybe they can put a tube of that in with their sets lmao.
Me: *watches quiet, calming, sometimes no talking videos* Ads I see: *loud ass irritating music, people talking annoyingly, products I have no interest in*
They look like those huge buffalos everybody used to wear back when I was in high school, I really don't feel the need to live trough all of those trends again 😑
