When i Got mine the spool also had a little play, I tightened the zero adjuster a 1/8 of a full turn 👍 awesome reel, and one of the nicest looking…. Cast like a missile 🤩
Great video. Picked up this reel to learn to skip better. It’s amazing. Wish I would have invested in something like this at the beginning instead of buying a bunch of cheap reels.
@@rawrfishing I adjust the tension until the spool doesn’t rattle and put the brakes on about 12. It rarely comes close to backlashing as long as I have a good clean throw.
Been using it fot about a year now. I found brake setting number 5-6 give the full potential of the spool (you'll start get over run at 4) and for lure weight on a L or ML rod 4g can still be ok to cast with. I feel up the spool with 100m of 10lb braid (just enough to cover the midway mark).

i heard of billings, but i never have tried it. worth a shot... I bought the chameleon DIY which is lighter and thinner. that would most likely do 2 g. not sure about billings. might need to swap bearings too...
Hello, I believe you have allot more experience than me with setting up the baitcaster however, doesn’t the zero adjuster mean zero adjust. Some say never touch it and it will be fine. Just start with the breaks on about 16 until you get used to the feel of the reel and line and lure then put the breaks down to 8 and game on, it’s what the instructions say from the manufacturer, I donno but I’m sure the people that designed the reel must know it’s optimal settings for best results which equals more sales. 🤷🏻♂️
This is absolutely correct. Magnetic breaking have improved through out the years. The old school setting up the brakes by turning the tension high, then lowering it little by little is obsolete and was made for centrifugal braking. Just about ever magnetic braking today, you loosen up tension until you get the spool to wobble slightly. Then tighten it to where it stops wobbling. Then just rely mainly on brake setting. It works really well. Daiwa zero adjuster have just a slight wobble, but u can tighten a bit if you really need to fine tune something. I use my Daiwa brakes at 6 mainly and 8 when there's a lot of wind and 4 for close range soft pitching. I go higher Than 12 for skipping depending on lure. Cheers
Dunno if you could claim it’s the “best” mid price reel for beginners. I mean it’s got some stiff competition from SLX dc and curado at that price point which are both very good reels for beginners IMO. But I started with daiwa fuego and yeah it was a great reel to learn with. I do agree with the mag brakes, the drop set up you find on RU-vid’s was frustrating. I ended up leaving the tension knob slightly loose and just adjusting everything with the mag dial and have been doing that since. The centrifugal brakes seem more set it and forget it for me tho. I rarely have to open the side plate to adjust on my SLX regular or curado. But I got them well after the fuego so maybe I learned to cast better first. *shrug*
That is fine. Everyone got their own opinions. I can't say anything about DC reels as i don't own one or used one. But on specs and reviews... this was my choice! If u can change spools on dc reels... then I would crown it King for life!
Found one on marketplace for a great price. I do shore fishing on my local river (Mississippi) A LOT for smallmouth (1-4 pounders) and largemouth bass on some of the smaller local lakes from my pack canoe. What type of rod would you pair this with for throwing small topwater, smaller jigs, wacky worms with this reel? Thanks a lot!
these older reels can come at great prices at some stores, but when u say market place, do you mean FB marketplace for used stuff? I would be cautious about used fishing gears. I don't ever buy used stuff unless i can fish it with a friend. but if you spool thin line to the first line on the spool, you can cast pretty light on a ML rod, like 1/8th is possible for short range. but if you fill it to the max, it fits better on a M to MH or even H power bass rods. I currently have it sitting somewhere in my arsenal on a M power rod to skip flukes and frog style lures under over hanging trees
Are the spools of this, and the TW80 interchangeable? They seem to be listed as the same size. I'm looking for a replacement spool, but the Gomexus spool for the TW80 is the only one that comes in black. With my luck, you don't have either reel anymore! lol
While I still have this reel, I do not have the 80. It wasn't mine to begin with, and I gifted the spool away to the viewer who sent me their reel to play with as a thank you. So sorry! Can't test it for ya!
@@rawrfishing weighs next to nothing but gives it a super hard exoskeleton. Very cool sheen on smaller parts. I'm not sold on it as a structural material though. Daiwa is smart enough to know better. Other manufacturers...
@@rawrfishing that's what I mean. Daiwa knows better than to make a whole reel out of it. Abu Garcia tried using it as a structural component. Didn't work so well for them. *Yikes*
Is it the same frame/size as the Tatula 100? If so, so you think installing an after market *long cast* spool from AliExpress, ie, Ray’s Studio, would be a worthy upgrade for the 100?
Potentially yes! When I installed the chameleon diy bfs spool, the spool uses the SV braking style cup. And that reel is super impressive after changing the spool and bearings. So it would Potentially be good too
why your model seems different with others. i mean the nut and retainer are different(others with colors to indicate its ratio from yellow, red and purple). and yeah star drag and handle knob too. (others using zaion star drag and silver knob cap).
I saw that but I wanted the sv braking and lighter spool. Since leaving kastking, I want to explore different reel technologies. Which is why the zillion sv tw g is on that list ^_^
@@rawrfishing same, but I back it off, and then work it up to eliminate side to side...there's not much to grab so I find it easier to back it off to make bigger turn in vs just trying to get the tiny adjustment.
It this any different from JDM Tatula SV TW 103? I found in Daiwa Japan website,their models has three color coded on the handle retainer(gold,red and purple)
Not the same reel. Those are here in the US too. The colored reels to differentiate speeds is the SV. Bigger body and spool while the tw103 is the tatula 100 size... smaller
So which one is better in your opinion.I am about to order one from Thailand online shop Shopee(not available in my country Myanmar) and I am confuse about colored ones and just plain ones coz they are all the same design except the nut on the handle retainer.They all say Tatula SV TW103 and more or less the same price.Please Help me.Thanks in advance
@@swamyetun783 As a finesse angler, the TW103 is better due to the smaller form factor and the lighter spool. However, I really don't know anything about the older version. You can do a side to side comparison with the two via the charts on their website?
That really depends on your rod and line setup. But I have not casted anything lower than 7.5 grams on a MH rod, but it's not that great with a full spool of line. I have casted 3.5 grams with thin line up to the first Line indicator on the spool on a ML rod
@@rawrfishing Thanks I think I will buy it and pair it with a 3-21(more like 5-21) gramm rod. But someone say it can cast from 2 someone says it only can cast from 6gramm so I dont know. But from your testing I think I found the the answer for my questions about the reel.
It very subjective... But your range is relatively large. Most people have a smaller range of lures as setups should be made for specific fishing needs. The more versatile you try to Be, the less effective

It's hard to compare prices between products that are not sold in the same country. But the extra paid for the extra features makes it why tatulas are great reels for beginners rather than fuego!
@@rawrfishing can't justify a T-Wing - 0.3 grams for $90. The SV spool is where the money's at. Backlashing is what beginners fear and the SV spool greatly reduced that. It is hard to compare, but when the product is easily available, why not? I think DC reels are great for beginners too... $$$
Not a fan of DC reels. I don't think i would ever get another one. sold mine already. It's nothing special, but if ppl want to pay for that.. they can sure do it. Daiwa reels are way easier still, less configuration given that you don't touch the tension knob. brakes only!
@@rawrfishing Yes! that's what I love about Daiwa reels, once zero adjusted, brake dial only. No need to open up the side plate. I haven't tried a DC yet and the new 2023 SLX DC 70 isn't too expensive from Japan, might give that a try.
