Thanks for the video, it helped me to decide on which book I wanted...I was surprised to learn they don't lay flat, as that seems to be a selling point, but I wonder if you can tell me if the paper buckles once it's been made wet...Thanks again for the in depth video 👍

You’re welcome, glad it was helpful. With the cold press one I took a spray bottle to it and it did end up warping a bit, especially because it wasn’t taped down enough. For light washes it doesn’t buckle too much and will end up flat when dry. Although I still use clips on the corners to help it stay flat. They are still the best watercolor sketchbooks I have personally used.

Hi! Does the portrait (white cover) sketchbook open flat and kinda stay there? I've been trying to find a video where someone shows that... Thanks for the review. Now I really can't decide between the hot and cold press with the Perfect Sketchbook, haha..

I would say no, it doesn't lay flat. Maybe it will with some wear on the binding. With all of them, I use a clip to at least get the page to lay with the cover. I would go with the type of paper you use most. Hope this helps!

@@amyrogstad That's super helpful! I recently bought some of those big bulldog clips and just tested them on some portrait sketchbooks (that definitely don't like staying open) and they did the job. I guess I can live without them laying effortlessly flat as long as they stay kinda open :p. Thank you!

I am an artist of 40 plus years and can afford such things but as long as idiotic people spend that kind of money for a sketchbook... the price can and will only go up. Not a very smart precedent or a way to go.

Wow! Thanks for the kind words. 🙃Tho, I do know what you mean, it is ridiculous. The high cost, that is. I'm just going to make my own high quality watercolour sketchbook. There are lots of online tutorials on bookbinding. I've made a few already. Thanks Amy Rogstad for this video. I hope you plse don't take posts like Bruce Gow's personally, and post more vids. 🙂
