It makes me nervous seeing that heavy amp on that three-legged table. I guess it is sturdier than it looks. Nice job explaining the inputs/outputs and controls.

Nice amp. No double boxing is “sacrilegious” as Adrian would say. The bean counters are winning!!!

It is funny that it is mentioned the volume nob is very smooth...it so smooth it feels like it is a toy, no resistance at all, feels like plastic not connected to anything. Yes I have had the ma352 and the only thing I hated was the volume nob. A good feeling nob will have resistance while being smooth and I even prefer if they have a stepped feel like old units of the 70s

Mc-Thanks for doubling down the wpc (nearly) from 8-4 ohms. FYI you spent money applying the logo to both sides. Why not save a buck and just put one on the front where people will be able to appreciate it? As Adrian says 'You buy the McIntosh because you want it to look good'. Agreed. Some Mc Top Brass dude must have made the designer mess up the logo position choices.

I know the MA252 is a cheaper unit! But could you do a review of the MA252? Thanks.

If using a subwoofer via the sub-output, how would you roll-off the frequency to the main speakers without affecting the output to the subwoofer? Is the sub-woofer output variable controlled by the volume control?
@kimchee411
@kimchee411 2 года назад
You don't. Main speakers are full range while sub fills in the missing bottom end.

Most subwoofer have active crossovers on board as well as phase and gain.
@mark9118
@mark9118 Год назад
@@kevtn8 Sure, that works fine for the subwoofer, but it would be better if the main speakers rolled off quicker than normal when a sub-woofer is being used, which is going to improve the performance of the woofer in the main speaker.
@kevtn8
@kevtn8 Год назад
@@mark9118 It depends on each person their preferences. I'm ok with going full range on my speakers. I plug up the port and then use subwoofer for lower range. My subwoofer also has room correction so it sounds pretty well blended.
@mark9118
@mark9118 Год назад
@@kevtn8 I just like the idea of taking some of the load off the main speaker woofer and the main amp, and letting the subwoofer handle a little more of the bass (assuming one has a sub-woofer). I have seen tests that show that a single woofer driver cannot reproduce a tone at 85 Hz and 1500 Hz at the exact same time with anywhere near the same low distortion as when those tones are played individually through the same driver. Now if one has a small main speaker that naturally rolls off at 85 Hz, then it doesn't matter. If one has a large main speaker with good bass response, one could place a high pass filter on the main speaker level output, but those capacitors are very large and expensive and add a fair amount of distortion, so the best way is to add a high pass capacitor on the line level output to the amp. But one needs a way to control the volume level of both the speaker amp and subwoofer in synch with each other, but not apply the high pass filter to the subwoofer input.

Obviously my electronics have displays and LEDs. I have them set to auto-off. When I settle down to listen to music, that’s what I want to do, listen to music! I don’t want to be distracted by illuminated displays or coloured LEDs! Obviously, if I adjust the volume, change the track or select an alternative source, the display momentarily illuminates as visual confirmation. Not that im criticising components centred around their displays, metres or glowing valves, if that enhances your listening pleasure or overall experience. You pay your money, you make your choice. Just doesn’t float my boat!

Hi guys. I own an MA352 and was wondering if you have tested it with the Sabrina X as I'm considering purchasing these within a few weeks. Thanks!!

Mc needs to stop cheeping out on their knobs. You could hear the cheapness when you were pushing the source selector. As mentioned below - no double boxing. I wouldn't buy those from anywhere online (new or used although I think these might be high enough up the food chain for local purchase only).

Those knobs are solid milled aluminum, made in Binghamton, NY.

Why would anyone buy an integrated amp to only bypass the amp section for another amp. Just buy a preamp.
@nbk1943

Bi-amp?
@kimchee411
@kimchee411 2 года назад
You don't plan on buying the integrated just to use it as a preamp. You buy an integrated, enjoy it for a while, and decide you want to try some hot new power amp that has the hifi world abuzz. Now you don't have to buy a new preamp. Or you just enjoy the sound that your integrated's preamp section brings. Been there. Also bi-amp and line level subwoofer outs.

Does anybody know if this amp sounds different from the MA252?
@robandrews4925

I recently switched from the MA252 to the MA352 and it's a very substantial difference, both great units however the MA352 suited my listening style much better. I tend to listen to loud classic rock music and the 352 is a beast!
