They are very nice sounding mid/bass units, I bought a pair of MONACOR SPH-165CP twelve months ago from Wilmslow Audio and looking on their web site they are now selling these for £60.00 each more (ex delivery and VAT) than I paid a year ago! and it's given the Castle speakers I put these in a new lease of life, wow they do go low now (not that they didn't before) so it will be interesting to see what you do in the way of a crossover for the tweeters when they come. (I replaced the Ferrofluid in the tweeters from a company in Holland who sent full instructions how to do this) so my speakers should be good for another twenty years, I only hope I will be too!
I just got lucky and bought a brand new pair of Sph 165 cp for £100 for my castle avons. From dealers they are around £122 each.Been told the monacors are better sounding than the original avons. Looking forward to the upgrade.
@@davebrody9315 That's a good price, the 165CP look identical to the 135C Ian used in his Mini Monitors, the spec is very similar and only difference really is they are a little bit larger but they fit perfectly in the Castle Avon as a drop in replacement. I have seen on RU-vid someone changed the tweeter and crossover as well but I didn't go down that route and kept the original tweeters and crossover, the speakers were second hand when I bought them twenty years ago but over time the Ferrofluid dries out but having replaced the Ferrofluid they now sound better than when I first bought them! (plus of course your hearing changes with time and you grow used to the way a speaker sounds)
I see you're upgrading your settee to an audiophile version, as well 😉 Made in Taiwan isn't a problem, though. They've got a good electronics industry.
