With 60 acres of off-grid, wooded Michigan property, we need a reliable chainsaw. After our Echo 18" battery-powered chainsaw broke (after 2 years of use), we started looking for a tool that can keep up with our needs.
We decided to go with the @Stihl MSA 300 C-O battery-powered chainsaw. A first-use video will follow, but in this one, I explain what comes with it and what doesn't.

Nice story about your father in law. I understand the sentimental value in things. I own a STIHL gas chainsaw and a battery powered weed trimmer. Really like both of them.

You say you own a Stihl battery trimmer, if is the FSA135 you are well served, I have one over 3 years and have used it with all kind blades never have any problems.

Be prepared, I have this saw over 2 years with an 18" bar, no doubt the saw is good but the batteries are light years away for professional use, for a day work out in the forest I with need a truck load of batteries. The plastic cap over the air filter have 4 screws do not tight themes to much or you be in trouble has it had happen to me. You need clean the air filter frequently it sucks a lots of dust. Is a fast powerful saw, for sure I have used mine beyond manufacturers recommendation never have any problem wish I with say the same about the AP500S batteries and I have 4 of those. I have also the MSA220C, 161T, TRIMMER 135, GTA26 and the Blower BGA86, all this machines are excellent but the best one attending at a run time in one battery charge is with out a doubt the 161T.

@@MIoffGridAdventures The charger you with be better with AL500 I have 2 of those. 3 days ago I was helping a friend cutting oak from a pile of wood to be used on the fireplace, we start with both my saws the MSA300 and the MSA220C, 4 AP500S and 4 AP300S batteries fully charged, I have 2 AL500 chargers connected to a power outlet and we still running out of batteries, remember if you go hard on the MSA300 the batteries got hot and not recharge back until they cool off. In light limbs you okay but when you going with an 18" bar and cutting 20" plus dry oak the AP500S quite fast got out of power and hot. In regard to the bar oil I have mine over 2 years so far never have any leaks.
