You can easily replace the AC power socket with one of those 3-pin things you find in every computer power supply. Fits the hole perfectly. Those are very nice little machines. Ususal problems : dirty switches and potentiometers, grease-gone-hard in the pinchroller mechanish and the tension arms. They should move easily. When working, they usually sound really good. I've had one of these, now i have the bigger brother that also supports 10" reels, the A-3300SX. Very pleased with it.

I'm at 4:20, and the only thing I can come up with is "reel to reel".

@ElectronicsAtHome At least in Australia, it is pronounced "Tee-ack", according to TEAC's own advertisement videos on RU-vid.

Really nice TEAC J! At first, I thought it was an Akai model because it look so similar to the Akai 4000 series. TEAC were really top quality in their day for both the reels and cassette decks. I'm looking forward to seeing it in action. Good purchase!!

Teac! Amazing I haven't heard that name/brand in ages. We used to have a similar model.

@DrCassette The left tension arm should jump right back to the top position if you push it down. That's the way it takes up slack in the tape when you hit play.

ditch the exacto knife and buy a cheap paring knife for opening packages.

@TheMrmagnetophon On the jack it says it was for the remote control RC-120, is that your model?

@DrCassette Both of the flutter guides should move freely. Sounds like one of them has some lube that has turned to goop. Dismantle, clean, lube, should be fine. I've owned at least 20 or so TEAC decks, and had to service them all. Easy to work on too, but i prefer Akai decks these days. Cheers!

I am not willing to spend some totally ridiculous amount of money on a proprietary power cord. The new stadard power jack required no modifications at all and now I can use whatever power cord I want.

@djFadeOut122 By now I actually have fixed most of these problems :D I put in a computer style power jack, cleaned the switches (the potentiometers were fine), re-lubricated the pinch roler mechanism and cleaned it. How easily should the tension arms move? The one on the right returns instantly and moves just freely, the one on the left takes a while to return (around two seconds). Is that OK? I got the A-2300SX because I'm sure I'm never going to have any 10" reels :)

DrCassette I'm sure you found out by now but that left tension arm taking a couple seconds to come back to the top is just fine that's the way it's supposed to be

@vegunited06 What, you don't know TEAC? They have actually made some of the best reel-to-reel tape recorders ever, and they are quite a bit better than Akai qualitywise.

Nice thing! My Sony TC-330 has also such a odd mains connection. But i have luckly the power cord for it. Yes,i would yours modified too with an pc powersupply connection as "DjFadeout" said. Thats a good solution.
