I really actually like when you go to local stores and grab knives. Gives new collectors/EDCers a chance to see what they can grab locally. Great video.
I started my collection at Walmart myself. Everyone has to start somewhere and you two always give starters and learners a good idea of what you get for your few dollars neat.
I climbed off my high horse and picked up a Kershaw Hotwire from Walmart the other day for 12bucks. For the money it actually surprised me and I carry it more than my Benchmade bug out. I'm starting to discover the budget part of life and that not everything has to be expensive. Content like this helps my journey. Thanks for sharing folks!
I have the first bearing assisted one they opened. I was pleasantly surprised. It's a super budget knife but the quality is not to bad for a 5 dollar knife. I also bought the fixed blade and had to sharpen it. I put it in my car.
Love this video and all of your Walmart/Ozark Trail videos! Definitely would like to see a part 3! At my local Walmart, all of these were priced at $4.87 except for the red fixed blade that was on sale for $3.00 so I think you guys got a good deal. I like the Ozark Trail knives for practicing my knife sharpening skills and for throwing in my tackle box etc.
To be honest, these knives are not half bad for normal edc purposes, like cutting a piece of rope, or cutting open boxes or mail. I think as long as you use them in ways that aren’t beating them up, they aren’t bad to have around as a spare or extra tool
These remind me of the old Imperial knife display case down at my local Coast to Coast store. I’m showing my age, but those were pretty good, useful knives for $1-$2. These are the same. I got their trapper. Pretty good value, pretty good knife!👍
I'm a fan of those Ozark Trial knives. Use them for work all the time. There is a novelty in having a cheaper edc knife and that is that it's easily replaceable. I have the stag finish knife and love it. I got my eye on that Ivory one now lol.
I have many knives some expensive Alot low priced you can't beat these little knives have many of them and put them through heck..excellent video thanks for the vdeo and time 👍
I got a fixed blade recently from walmart made by Ozark trail, it's a copy of the buck reaper, it's a bad ass knife for 20 bucks. Fit and finish is pretty good and is very sharp.
$3 knives are great for doing things that might cause damage to your knife, you just told it in the trash when done. Love the fact that Frankie is all in for working on the knives..." $3 don't care, going to fix it!"
The prices at Walmart vary with stock. So if they have so much of one style, to make room they mark them down. That's why many of these knives will cost you around $4 online because they aren't pressed for shelf space.
I like what the little pamphlet that came with my Svord Peasant knife said, “it’s a knife, it cuts”. If the stuff you bought works for you, no need to rely upon anyone else’s opinion. This is applicable to other areas of life as well. Also, I use to work somewhere where they sold dedicated safety package openers. It was just a small, spring loaded retractable blade, about a quarter of an inch or so long, used to “safely” open plastic packages. Just thought I’d add that since you were on about safety.
"But its RainBow!" Classic! HEY! blister pack is to be opened using SCISSORS! Not Knives! That's just silly! Think of blister packs as the rain, and scissors as the rainbow if it helps... $5 OT knives are the BEST Ferro-rod sparkler scrapers! I keep like 4 in each emergency fire bags under the truck seat, just in case the bic lighters fail...
Picked up the black fixed blade around Christmas and recently found it in burgundy as well. Had to take a file to both sheaths to make the spine slide in and click.
I just picked up the OD one at 14:40 here in early 2023. Its a 2021 model, and my local WM had one left. There is also a 2022 version with red scales, but I like the look of this 2021 much better in OD. Bearing assisted, good traction and a nice flipper. I would consider it a medium-moderate duty folder. I had to tighten the pivot a little to perfectly center the blade. Even with bearings it needs a little break in and then its really smooth. I also picked up three of the new axis lock models too. I agree these OT knives are better than gas station, but only if you get a good one. I think the QC varies greatly, but mine have no issues.
Your first video inspired me to go pick up a few of these. For the flippers I actually love the action on the green one. It only weighs 2 oz which is super light. The blue one with the aluminum handle feels the most solid of all the flippers. It's not as smooth as the green one but still I like it. Cut the shit out of my finger fidgeting with it yesterday lol. Please do a follow-up. I would like to see how well you can get them tuned up and sharpened. It's not a bad thing keeping a knife handy that you generally do not care if you destroy it or not.
Every now and then, you just have to try something you know is going to fail/hurt/suck. For me, it all starts with going to WM and goes downhill once I enter the parking lot. The crush of humanity inside the doors is usually enough to keep me away. Sometimes, I just need cheap camping supplies and a giant bag of jerky though... Thanks for the fun knife shtuff, guys! Pet the livestock for me and stay well up there.
I’ve got all of these except the fixed blade and multi-tool. The Ozark Trails are fun to collect because they’re cheap and you never know which ones will be hit or miss. Walmart actually lists the rainbow one as the “Flare”. The rubberized handle one is the replacement for the older style green flipper. The one with the green G10 handle has trouble with the lock up because your hand has to rest on the frame lock to grip it. Like I said you’ll never know what you’re going to get with these knives. Great video.
I bought 5-6 of the assisted openers- at my Walmart they were$5 something. It is my EDC around the homestead. I used to buy and carry expensive knives and when you lose them or break them, that’s what happens when you use them, it hurts, I lose one of these I go down to the man cave peg board and grab another.
Wow didn't realize walmart had so many cheap folding knives! You guys don't have cheap $2.60 folder that I got yesterday at walmart - one with serrated edge good for cutting small branches.
Have you checked out the blue ozark trail assisted opening knife yet? I wanted to send one to you both but finding them in stock at our walmarts is tough.
🥀I always wonder how Ozark knives were... I have Ozark bedsheets on my memory 1ft. of foam Cot(Camo).. fold a king size mattress into a cot like me... big fluffy cloud sleep... thanks for recommending.... 🌹Man, I got 10 Remington Sports for discount price.. I tuned them and lighten the weight with Assisted deployment... 🌌
Things I've learned from the past 2 years of self reflection in isolation: multiple things can be true at once. It is possible you can have spent way too much on these knives, and that 3 dollars is actually a pretty good deal for some of these. Cheap knives have come a long way since our youth(s) and you can get something surprisingly usable in the Walmart discount bin. Also omg that was way too much. 2 of the sketchy "Ivory and gold" knives really? In this economy? The gas price was probably more :P
I swear for some reason my 2022 tan assisted flipper looks to have bronze washers. Hardly any blade play too. My first one was better but a buddy lost it so I had to get another.
I actually enjoyed the knife adventures with Frankie and Bird. I have to admit I always gravitate to any knives in stores or gas stations, I'll even seek them out. If there is not a 3rd video I won't feel like my life is not complete but if it does get made I will watch it. 🤪
I buy those fixed blades and use them to practice etching, stonewashing and sharpening. What would you guys guess the steel is? 5cr? They sharpen up super easy and actually take a pretty damn good edge
Cheap knives are a must. I would enjoy a part 3 for the $3 knives. At the very least their great to practise sharpening on since they actually use a decent steel not mystery never take an edge gas station attrocity.
I have the blue multitool, the blue handle knife, the rainbow knife, that flipper knife and they are awesome except that weird looking black and green one. I didn't like it so I gave it to my son
Bird pick the same as I did and his top picked one I got 7 of those, now after this video I think I am going to get a few more. Here in south Georgia they are 5.00 each. So if it breaks or gets beaten bad it's only 5 bucks. They been worth that just for the time I have spent flipping it. Yes on part 3 I need more. I am hooked now. Don't cut it. 😎
Also bought the kershaw assisted flipper 3 pack. Sadly disapointed again quality was poor! last good combo 4me fm them was 2019 so watch out if ur picky
Maybe have Frankie use some of her painting skills, try to color some of the scales to make the non-rainbow knives prettier. ... I should really keep things to one comment, but hey it is good for the RU-vid algorithm.
Ozark trail knives are at least 8cr13 mov.Gas station knives are mystery steel most of the time.Ive beat the hell out of that little red fixed blade at work.
FYI I thought I would attempt taking the lovely little pivot bearings from the first rubberized handle green knife and put them into the aluminum handled blue knife that came with crappy nylon washers. It was a no-go. The pivot stud on the blue knife is larger than on the green knife so the bearings would not fit. Sadness ensued. In my opinion the washers on the green knife make it far superior to all the others based on that alone. On the bright side, I was able to clean and lightly oil the pivot and washers on the blue knife so now I am able to fully deploy it with both the lever and finger stud.
so glad you guys staying true to your roots and not dismissing the ozark trail knives. shockingly high amount of value. HOWEVER, there is ONE gripe my inner knife snob has: ugh with the infernal tip down!!
I mean, for a few bucks, why not have a couple around for general opening duty on Amazon boxes or something... I don't like to cut things with my nice knives, they're just for me to play with... also, these could be great for practicing sharpening, on old school whetstones. For $3, I approve. +1 for FABPAT.
