I admire Vincent's homebrew shaving kit stand! Taking the time to create and accommodate to your needs is a great way to (re)use local resources imaginatively and responsibly.
Hi Mark- Great MMMB; thank you! Wow- all of these wonderful new razors to check-out! Thank you for highlighting them for us, and thanks to the viewers who shared them with you! I hope you have a great start to the week and best regards, as always, Mark!
Great show Mark. Lots of great info as usual. I will be in London later this year and if our tour gives us time at Piccadilly Circus I will look for the Taylor of Old Bond Street store. I know it is in that area. Have a great week. 👍
That 3D printed bowl is really great. I almost printed an extra and sent it your way but it has one issue. The latter becomes quite cold in it by the second and third pass. In every other way it is perfect. Can make later faster than any other bowl i have. The rim keeps the lather in the bowl. If lather starts walking up your brush you can run it through the notch for the brush holder to scrap it clean. If it wasn't for the fact it can't retain any heat it would be my go to bowl. As it stands it is my hot day bowl when I want a nice cold shave. Thanks again for the video.
The above is my personal opinion. I still like mine for hot days. If you can find a person with a printer go ahead and have one done. Also check out your local libraries. Some have printers and can print for you for the cost of filament. It takes like $2 of filament. As I said except for the heat it is like a perfect bowl. You should definitely try it. I did ask the author about making it into a skuttle but haven't gotten word back.
Mark, I own the Oliblade. It was part of a giveaway test program by Oliworks. The razor is excellent. The setting range is from .5 to 6. At settings below 3 there is nearly no blade feel. At the higher levels, there is blade feel but the shave is smooth and comfortable. The handle is not as wide as the Ambassador but fits easily in the hand. Oliworks has a 30 day money back no cost guarantee. This is certainly a razor worth trying for a price that is 1/2 that of the Ambassador. To be fair, the finish on the Oliblade is not as good as the Ambassador, but I don't shave with the finish. It is a great American made, stainless steel adjustable at an excellent price.
Hey Mark, Great show! Thanks for the shout out regarding soap scents for the Fall/Winter. RE's Sandalwood is truly my favorite Sandalwood, BUT TOBs is right on its heels in second. 😂 Also, when discussing about teardrop handled razors , there is also Parker's 111B, which has some heft to it and is a mild razor. Have a great week! 🙂👊🪒
Good morning Mark superb MMMB as always really enjoyed the watch my favourite TOBS scent would have to be Grapefruit it’s an amazing beautiful scent just so fruity and strong grapefruit hits you when you open the lid they’re all good but this would have to be my NO1 have a great week take care 🙂
I have an Oliworks razor and have found it to be great. Tolerances of the pieces is top notch and it provides me a very good shave. It was recommended to me and I would recommend folks give it a shot.
G'day Mark. Melbourne. Great MMMB. As usual. Tuesday morning July 30 here. You're absolutely right about the Thayers. Been using it for nearly 2 years now post alum block routine. I find it helps just that little bit more before I go to the splash then balm/jelly. I still regard the alum routine as necessary with the Thayers NOT replacing it, & of course, applying the Thayers after the alum is eventually rinsed off. As for helping my anti aging. Nup. Can't claim that one. Thoroughly enjoy MMMB & your reviews. Take care Mark. PS. TOBs Eton College. Amazing shave cream. Even better when matched with splash then cologne. Great throughout the day hold.
Absolutely a fantastic MMMB Mark!!! And thank you for the autographed George cartoon. I have had awesome suggestions for a fall winter soap and have bought 2 since. I have sent you a email.
If the oil did solidify, the something like WD40, which acts as a solvent, might loosen it so the knob will turn. If it is rust, then it MAY, be able to loosen it as well. I suspect that if it is rust, then it probably will not work. I would spray/pour it on the moving parts and let it sit for 10 minutes or so to give it a chance to dissolve the solidified oil. I use WD40 to remove cosmoline from antique items. Cosmoline was used to protect metal parts on items that were intended to be stored for some time. If the oil in the razor did solidify, then I suspect that it would be similar to cosmoline.
If it involves rust of any kind, I won't shave with it. Difficult to know what's going on because the cartridge is sealed and I cannot get a good look at the ribbon blade except for ehast is expsoed.
Ethanol will be in witch hazel through steam distillation. Thayers may use an additional process step that removes the ethanol through additional distillation, extraction, or some other process. I will add that that the main compounds distilled out of the witch hazel plant, excluding ethanol, are in whatever “witch hazel” product you use. I believe that the person that brought it up in MMMB is correct if regulatory agencies define witch hazel as containing ethanol and Thayers removes it, then it most likely does not meet the definition of witch hazel. There are most likely benefits of the compounds (sans ethanol) but I have no idea what they may be.
Top of the morning to ya Mark - I always look forward to the 3MB like a lot of people do- Great video as always- Have a great day and rest of the week 👍✌️
(Today's tip) There are lots of ways to scrape some soap out of a container: poker chips, guitar picks, butter knives, etc. I hadn't thought of a tongue depressor. 😃
Regarding that RealShave razor, have you tried placing the head in hot water to see if that would loosen the cassette? Also, that Oliworks adjustable sure looks like a Rex Ambassador clone. When it comes to how much shaving soap or cream to use, it's fun to see how little product to use. But why? We all have enough soap to last a lifetime.
