M Night based the scene of Joseph trying to shoot David off of the real-life story of George Reeves, the actor who played Superman in the 1950's. A kid wanted to test his invulnerability with a real gun, but he used a bluff to keep him from doing it by saying the bullet might bounce off him and hit someone else. Also, Looks like the BEAST in the background pictures at Elijah's comic store.
I thought I recognised this, that was always such a chilling story. George dissuaded the child from firing while also not dispelling the child's belief in him as superman. He never made any public appearances as Superman again after that.
I can only imagine a film like this being made these days by Sonny or Marvel. Too much studio interference. "Okay the main character can work in security but rather than at a sports stadium he works in a museum and in the finale the villain tries to break in to get the special artifact which will give him power to control the universe, and there's also explosions and stuff at the end and a beam going up into the sky. Also the security guard needs a sidekick for comedy, lots of one liners please. Also it needs a cameo by other superheroes like Iron Man. It needs a cool setting too, somewhere iconic."
@@lw3646 Yea you got it pretty good how marvel will require everything to be perfect instead of having some things be a little normal or dull, which is what real life is.
Just because you happen to like the movie doesn’t mean it was underrated. Can’t people just say they liked this movie and don’t understand why most did not?
Say what you will about Bruce Willis, but his ability to portray fear in this scene was exceptional. The fear, hesitation, and the way he stumbled through his thoughts, trying to find the right words to de-escalate the situation is just amazing. I don't think I have ever seen this kind of visceral acting from him in any other movie.
Bruce Willis is actually an extremely overlooked and underrated actor. The roles when he put in 💯 you can see the talent. Unfortunately he got straddled with many action hero stereotypical roles and he sleepwalked in them. He's a brilliant actor.
@@lowserver2 for a couple years of all those bad movies a lot of people shared that same opinion with you. But it came out that he actually has been dealing with some mental conditions that would heavily effect his acting. This is probably why he started caring less about his rolls and more about the bag.
I love this scene so much. You can just feel the nervousness and anxiety in their voices, and the overall awkwardness of the scene. Like this scene looks so real to me.
This is. to me, the most realistic depiction of what it's actually like to discipline your child. When he uses the angry dad voice, it didn't look like acting. It looked like what an actual angry dad has to do.
@@keithv2974 To me it goes perfectly with the "admitting that you're a superhero" angle. Joseph is just trying to make his father admit he's super strong, and David both does it...and DOES it.
I watched "Unbreakable" for the first time last night, and watched "Split" 2 weeks ago so I can prepare myself for "Glass". This was my favorite scene in the movie. It is so intense and very well acted.
In my opinion this is the best performance by Bruce Willis. I also believe this is M. Night Shayamalans best movie and one of the best movies of all time. Obviously one of the greatest super hero movies. Before The Dark Knight, Logan and Into the Spider-Verse came Unbreakable. A masterpiece.
Well obviously the kid. A grown man has sense and reason enough to use it only for self defense and the preservation of his life and those he cares about. A kid doesn't understand logic and reason and therefore could injure or outright kill someone because they don't know what they're doing.
The thing I love about this scene is how it is handled like a parent would usually handle their child if they escalated Like that down to how they act and their constant stuttering

I watched Unbreakable and Split for the first time the night before Glass came out in theaters, and I saw Glass the next day. Shyamalan is a f***ing genius, who has created a masterpiece trilogy.
@@daltonlinaburg7951 I honestly think it's one of the top 5 worst endings to any film ever. Why the fuck M. Night not only chose to kill him but kill him in that way I'll never understand.
@@daltonlinaburg7951 Yeah that ending was inexcusable. You want to do a reverse superhero movie without everything exploding in the third act, fine. But you don't just bring a cool character from almost two decades ago to kill him in a puddle like a punk. C'mon man.
Bruce Willis may have had a dodgy rep among other actors and directors in his later years but the guy will always be a legend, regardless of what happens with his dementia.
I feel like this is when a kid who’s addicted to cod gets a pistol in real life. “You’ll be fine dad it takes like 10 shots to the body to kill someone with this!” 😂
This scene was inspired by an event in which George Reeves, the actor who played Superman in the 1950s, was at a live show and a kid came to him with a loaded revolver, asking if he could shoot him. George talked the kid out of it by claiming that if he got shot, the bullet would ricochet off his skin and hit someone else in the crowd.
Alejandro Nuñez well I didn’t know the ending but at least Mr. Glass showed the entire world about Overseer and Beast which makes most or few people revealed themselves that they are heroes and villains... maybe it could continue on the tv show where Glass left off I think
Alejandro Nuñez and any cities just like Philadelphia protected by Overseer based on Batman in Gotham which David doesn’t reveal his face while he’s in shadows. I always want to make my own anti-hero powers based on Unbreakable style
“No shooting friends Joseph” “Joseph, you are about to be in big trouble” There’s the confusing “is it meant to be funny?” dialogue we know and love from M. Night.
I remember watching this with my dad when I was maybe 12 years old, and we were SUCKED TF into this scene, because my dad kind of looks like Bruce Willis and had a .351 Revolver that I knew about and knew how to load. When Bruce Willis started counting I seriously thought the kid was going to shoot him. That Dialogue of "you're right, that bullet is just going to bounce right off of me, but then I'm going to leave" was brilliant and saved everything. I was 12 years old and literally felt like I put extra stress on my own dad watching this scene together because Bruce's acting is so damn good. At 2:27, the look on his face is totally expecting for that bullet to come. Also, if you watch this film from beginning to end, this scene also sort of comes out of nowhere. I really can't express how heavy this was to watch on VHS 20 years ago...
Very well said. And something I notice now, that I didn't realize watching the movie 20 years ago, was how badly the kid wanted his dad to be a real life superhero. He'd been totally sucked into Price's "fantasy". He believes it even more than we do.
@@keithv2974 Wow, I think I see that now, too. I think the kid wanted that because he was bullied and wanted his dad to be a super hero so HE could be a superhero.
@@holdover8199 That's a really interesting angle I hadn't thought about! I completely forgot that the son was beaten up during a fight at school, brought about because the son was trying to be a hero.
@@drwarcloud-He’s supposedly the action/protagonist character, but when you watch his more recent movies, he finds it harder to fulfill that role again.
@@drwarcloud Gonna start by saying I don't like him as a person he seems like a huge prick and I think he's a shit actor nowadays and chooses to be in shit films but your completely wrong saying he was never a good actor. He was once a brilliant actor and various scenes in this film/die hard/the sixth sense prove it.
David's one true weakness (Kryptonite) is Water. Including water inhalation (orally / nasaly) as a choking hazard. That's the reason why he has exhibited immunity against all potential infectious agents and pathogens. However complications regarding water, as in swallowing, were not staved off by his Unbreakable regenerative factor.
While Shyamalan's recent films are considerably better than a few that he made before, The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs are still by far his best films and some of the best movies ever.
"Sometimes when people get sick or hurt for a long time, like Elijah, their mind gets hurt too. And they start to think things that aren't true." Huh, so it was right there the whole time then
Taken out of the rest of the fantasy-based film, this one scene is a masterful piece of drama and suspense. As good as a director Shyamalan is, as good as his unique movies are, this scene sadly always makes me wish he would do more "normal" films.
I love how in this movie and in Glass no one has ever actually tried shooting David. But based on the evidence we see in the two movies, a bullet likely wouldn’t have worked on him anyways.
Andjelkovic Dennis: Hmm ? Hatte eine sehr gute Bindung zum meinem Vater und zu meinem Mutter wer was anders behauptet der steht im Verdacht , die Fälschung zu sein
In 2001, when I was 4, I used to repeat what I heard in movies or TV, and I started repeating "I'm going to go to New York" with a friend I had back then, without even knowing what NY was, I just had a blurry image of a bald man scolding his son, probably mistook it for "The Kid 2000" with Bruce Willis back then. Until I watched this movie in 2016 and the lines made sense with that blurry memory. It was a bit fucked up hahahaha
