Nice information thanks. In my case I have no access to the main chip, it's "blocked" but there was no need for shorting any pins, there was no reset button and no reset hidden behind the "AV out" as many point out. In my case I had to tear apart the box and found a push button for reset, that did the trick, no shorting required. Now In trying to fully identify my tv box and firmware, a backup sounds good before burning anything.

bought some no name atv box at goodwill for 3 bucks with android 7 on it, bricked it on an update, and two days later this is the only source i could find to tell me what pins i needed to short to get into burning mode. thanks! back up and running on atv9 now

For anyone failed on the short method on these two pins. Mine X96 2+16G is an earlier version, you can tell by the label which is different to the video. I have shorted the first two pins next to arrow more than 50 times, didn't work. What you need to do is short the pin 5 & 6( maybe 4 & 5) count from the diagonal corner of the arrow. Don't worry about burn the chip, I tried all the pins next to each other. I can confirm it works every time, without second delay. You don't even need the power plug in, usb cable only. When it work for you, please comment and help others to try.
Your video worked great, however, you only need to take cover off box, don’t worry about taking the board out. And I had to use a different firmware, xannys. But thank you for the easy to follow step by step video. Kudos
The bootloaders are both RAM and CPU specific, you can flash any DDR3 S905x firmware on another DDR3 S905x device even if its not built for that device.
It worked for me!! However i randonly short any 2 pin, not the 2 pin beside the arrow. Others if you face the same issue, please try any 2 pin around the chip.
Hi I managed to short the Nand pins (the first two as you said) - of course there was no reaction that I could see. I finally got to download the correct usb tool (I run win10) and it runs up. Trouble is there is no sign of my device. I did as you said - plugged in the USB and then the power but the device isn't listed. What do you suggest I try now?

You don't need to disassemble your X96, you take a cotton swab, cut a side to remove the cotton and insert it into the AV connector at the bottom and you will feel a switch. You push the switch until the transfer begins and you release it.
Hi. I got Transpeed T98 6K H6 box bricked. No reaction at all. Computer see the device. Flashing start but it always stop at 62% with error couldn't download boot1 :( Tried all the FWs available for that specific model. All stops at 62% :( Is this as you said that alot of them are different? Depending of factory?

I have the same problem like MikeG7. My X96 mini only shows the red light when plugged in and the instructions you've posted doesn't work. It is not seen by the PC. The nand pins are not visible. Is there any another way to access the flash mode? Thanks

I have a Cubetek 4k android box. Once during the hard reset, the power cut was interrupted due to which it was not fully reset. Then when the power is turned on, only the Android box logo is visible. There is no process even after turning on the power by pressing the hidden button. kindly help me.

I found a much simpler method to unbrick mine. There's a reset button in the AV port. Press and hold it with a toothpick. Then, plug in the power cable. Count to 20. You should be in recovery mode.
Gt1 ultimate 3gb/32gb. I used burn-card-maker But i have not checked ´´erase bootloader'´. So now its bricked. The light is turning on but no hdmi 1 is detected by my tv. I dont have a male to male usb, so is it possible to just shortcut the nand and then flash directly the box with my micro sd. You think it may work ??
No, as far as I know the nand short method only works when connected to a computer directly with a male to male usb cable. This is due to the recovery partition being corrupted.
Ah. Thanks!! But i finally got my gt1 ultimate (A706Dmodel) recognized by usb burning tool. I thougt my diy usb cable was falty. But the trick is to connect the box to the laptop, then shortchut the emmc. No charger/adapter needed. And sometimes i have to push the reset button before shortcutting and then release it after.
