I have ALWAYS loved this commercial! It came out the year I graduated from high school. It was one of the reasons why I went to college. I love how she mixes her classical training with her Southern phrasing. It is distinctive Leontyne!
I always loved this commercial. It's so nostalgic. The last part gives me goosebumps... We're not looking for a handout just a hand. Although, we've come along way we still have a long way to go.
Every Saturday afternoon, I would wait for her commercial! As a kid, I absolutely loved to hear her sing. She was probably one of the reasons I attended and graduated from an HBCU. She is truly the epitome of class!
I saw this and wept. It brings back so many memories of my childhood. My mother encouraged my eclectic tastes in music and when this commercial would air daily on BET...I would stop whatever I was doing and run to the TV to see this elegant, graceful and immensely talented women with that awesome voice. I wanted to learn more about her and developed a lifelong fascination and love of opera and classical music. Leontyne Price still remains the prima donna assoluta! Thanks for sharing this video!
I was very small when this came out. It opened my eyes to other forms of music, that day i was taught what an aria was. Her story is just incredible, it should be told.
As a singer myself, this is one the most glorious and heartfelt sounds that I've ever heard come from the human singing voice. I could listen to her sing a million times, and the tears never stop rolling down my face. Thank you so much, Ms Price for sharing your divinely blessed voice with the world, and for being such an inspiration to me and many others around the world.
I remember this commercial from 1984 it was on every station for public service announcement for The United Negro College Fund with the legendary Miss Leontyne Price a wonderful woman with a great operatic voice!!!! Thank you so much for posting this video it brings back a lot of memories!!! Thank you!!!! I love it!!! 1984 and 1985 was a very good year!!!!!
With the shroud of thankfulness still around me, I thought of Ms. Price and this commercial. I'm actually in tears thinking of her talent, determination and courage. She is the only "celebrity" that I even come close to worshipping, and I'm not a singer.
I totally forgot about this commercial, thank you for posting it. I love Miss Price! There is a bit of camp with the way the commercial is done, but God, Miss Price continues to be, without a doubt, America's greatest singing artist.
*SAY!!!!*; *DID RAY CHARLES ALSO DO A VERSION OF THIS SONG, FOR THE SAME ORGANIZATION????*.... *AS I RECALL HE DID, AS IT WAS IN THE EARLY 70'S, BUT IT WAS WITH PHOTOGRAPHS AND ALL, AND HE WASN'T IN IT*.............. 😐😐😐😐
